Mike Davis To Take Over Texas Southern Men's Basketball On Interim Basis

Boasting over outbidding JSU and still aint won... Nevermind
Small Time Schools gotta have to something to be proud about!

Congrats on the upgrade  if y'all don't become a powerhouse in both men & women's basketball then I dunno what to say.

I wonder why was he hired as an interm?

For strategic purposes. In essence, we are renting him. This way if he gets the team hot and wins SWAC and a larger program comes after him, he can walk away without contractual obligations.

More about dealing with State Laws about job postings and they probably needed to act quickly.

Nice hire

Members of the media are invited to meet and interview new Texas Southern Interim Men's Basketball Coach Mike Davis.

WHEN: Friday, August 3, 2012
TIME: 4:00 p.m.
WHERE: TSUNAA Alumni Convention Sheraton Suites Galleria (2400 West Loop South Freeway)

Ive always been a huge fan of Mike Davis.. his first year at UAB was the year I was taking classes at UAB... and I use to sit in on practices all the time. Even though he was winning at UAB he never stood a chance because UAB fans were use to the 40 minutes of hell that Mike Anderson (former Missouri and current Arkansas coach ran)....Davis slowed it down a little bit and although he was winning... he lost the fans.

THarvey was winning at Texas Southern also and he wasn't even attempting to appeal to our students and alumni; he alienated himself and his program from the rest of the university and that led to low fan support.

Would I be a hater if I stated the slide for Mike Davis is getting sadder and sadder? What's next? A assistant coaching position at Hotcoochie Community College?

As a TSU allum and a Bham native, mixed emotions about this, I have watched Mike Davis since his playing days at Bama. Initially I was happy and astounded to hear about him on the local news cast. Then I thought back, Davis went to the final four and soon fell out of grace at Indiana, He came to UAB and had limited success on the floor even with the fact several high end players verbally committed to him and/or never got on the floor for him (Cousin, Blesoe, Wall and others).
I hope he can get the same athlete he was recruiting at UAB and get themqualified to play. He is not the sharpest coaching tool in the shed.

Almost the same thing that happened to Stan Heath at Arkansas. Fans were so accustomed to that uptempo 40 minutes of hell. Great hire Texas Southern!

Can you elaborate please, I don't know much more than his name and bio. Help me with what you base this on. Thanks!

He's the guy that was Bobby Knight at Indiana's assistant that took over after Bobby "left". 9 out of 12 times he has made the postseason. He's more of a victim of following in someone else's shoes who was a legend or someone who had more success.

It's a good hire and if he can do half the stuff Todd Bozeman is doing at Morgan State or what Johnnie Jones did at North Texas-it will work out.

If he brings in a legit starting five, TXSU will be hell to deal with.

From what I understand TSU already had one of the more talented teams in the SWAC. Word is the previous coach was too much of a control freak to trun um loose. turn um loose.... gets me every time

Yeah I heard you guys had some talent. I didn't get a chance to watch any SWAC BB games last year. I think he is going to work out fine. It would be nice seeing a legit SWAC BB team make it to at least the second round of the tournament. If it can't be my team, I am just glad someone is stepping up.
