Alabama St. sees new $50M stadium as first step to FBS status

What makes you think Bama State is ready to move up? I dont still dont get it. NO HBCU is ready to move up. Yall thinking like Black folks with new Lexus living in the trailor courts. Alums dont give enough money for us to even think about moving up.
Right.

Some have to be sleep when they are typing. We must be realistic. The Rip Van Winkle effect.

Will their alumni start to give back then?

part of being able to give is income. alabama state in the last 5 or 10 years just got their first doctoral degree programs. so instead of I got my b.s. or masters at bama state, you'll have those that got their phD there. that'll make a difference in alumni giving going forward. also the last 10 years for bama state have been ugly for football. probation, scandal, bad press, in fighting. none of those things inspire people to give or even want to be associated with the program. the last time the football program was really right, houston markem was the head coach. let's see what the next 5 years hold if they keep the ship right.

 Moving up.
With all the complaining on this level in regards to competing, I don't see it happening anytime soon. But  Bamma State for making these backwards leaders in this backwards conference think just a little bit.

Look like JSU is not the only ones tired of the direction this conference is going.

Amen to that Dahill! Bama State not ready. They are begging their alumni base now to help pay off the new stadium debt. Josh Moon wrote a damn good article about how Bama State doesn't have any money for this gigantic move. Is their AD into fundraising? ASU is in a lot of debt from building new buildings on campus. This is some of what Josh Moon said a few months back....

JoeT, it's no secret that Bama State borrowed $281m for campus transformation. The managers also increased student fees to meet the bond obligations. If you look around you will see other institutions doing the same. Money is cheap and now may be the best time to borrow. I recently refinanced my house for under 3 % interest rate. As long as the bonds are paid we will be alright.

Now the move to FBS is in the 2020 plan but it's not set in stone. The 2020 plan called for the transformation of the campus and it has accomplished that goal.

Joe T?

You not ole buddy whom name they took off the arena huh?

Many programs, except the richest ones, share the vision with the community prior to raising the money. Heck, ASU is ahead of most in that they have the facility lined up. Did Troy have all the funding plus facility when they announced their long range plan? I dont think they did if I remember correctly. Sketches, a plan and a vision. ASU is well ahead of that.

SoCon is better than the SWAC so how can you fix your mouth and say that? lol You're thinking from a personal standpoint but that would be a move up from the situation of the SWAC currently. FAMU ran and look what happened. No plan was in place they just wanted to run.

+1 Some of these people posting have zero semblance of a thought process. :smh:

Congrats to Bama St, among several others, who've made the effort to distance themselves SLIGHTLY from 5A and 4A high schools here in terms of facilities. lol I posted the article about Allen HS purposely as the deal last week was unnoticed by several. High schools now have much better facilities than local HBCUs and pretty soon, the community colleges (once they do the JUCO deal SHORTLY :read: , too will have much, much better facilities than some of the local HBCUs. :read:
