Alabama St. sees new $50M stadium as first step to FBS status

If HBCU's want to go to the FBS before that big move, they should first move to a regional FCS conference to get their feet wet then try the FBS move. Got to be smart on how you approach that big of a move. For example. Alabama State may need to try out the Southern Conference first. Got to crawl before you walk. Good to see a vision is there though, but we have to be realistic and smart also. People love seeing HBCU's fail so you have to do it right.
For what :smh: . Winning has nothing to do with moving up. It's all marketability and potential.

1980 Boise State 14 Grambling 9

1981 Boise State 19 JSU 7

Look at them now!!! Look at us!!!

Exactly. Can't see how someone can fix their mouth and say it's not about winning. Has nothing to do with moving up? Surely He Jests? WOW. Someone needs to stick to baseball.

Bama has too much of a good thing going with its program to risk any type of negative publicity. Besides we don't operate under the Univ. of Al. board like UAB. We have our own board and a majority of the members must be ASU graduates.

Well that's good, cause I was sure that if Bama stopped UAB that they would try to stop you all.

If our fore father would have listen to some of yall, we would still be in slavery.

Thats the difference between black schools and white school..Georgia St, South Alabama, Ut San Antonio , and texas state will be loosing for a while but they will have still have support from their FAN Base and Alums to get the thing necessary to compete one day....The Money is in FBS football period 6 wins get u to a Bowl Game...The average fan from the local barber shop dont understand that things like this take time...

I can see a fan from Jackson who never went to Jackson State say "we left the SWAC and now we are getting beat by all these white schools...we need to go back to playing Valley and Alcorn"...:smh:

And they are whipping boys for the big boys.

You need money to move up. And I'm not talking about raising it or begging your alumni after. That money needs to be sitting in someone's bank right now. Just like buying a new house. They want to see your liquidate assets sitting in your account for some time.

I am speaking for Jackson State Univ. we have just started to receive more money from the government because we are now a research school so more funds are pouring into the University because of some of our programs...I am sure its like that most schools have dedicated themselves to academics.....BUT staying on the subject a move like this cannot happen unless the alumni and fans REALIZE there will be sum HARD TIMES at first and its going to take money from the fans and alumni to compete on the FBS level....

No. You need money. So AL had a wealthy donor who put up $30m to establish their football program.

They floated out all those bonds for those facilities but the man who approved them is gone now so who knows what vision the new president has? But realistically, is playing in the Sun Belt any better than the SWAC? ULM, Texas State ain't coming to Montgomery, Alabama and ASU has no fan base who'll draw no matter who shows up.

You can't compare those teams to HBCU's, they are in much better shape financially etc. Try again.

BS. When conference look for teams to join, do you think they look to see if their football team is winning  . Hell no. They look at infrastructure, potential, and the market the school is located in.

this what i'm actually on. prove yourself worthy to even get an invite. (unless you can work the politics)

Georgia St, South Alabama, Ut San Antonio , and texas state aren't winning, but you see they are moving up.

but they maximize on the 2 other points of the triangle funding and alumni support. example UTSA is, going into their 2nd year since being created and already moving on up to the WAC. they have a crazy strong alumni support and money pouring into the program. their leadership, had FBS had FBS on the mind since 2009. yes, ASU needs to move quickly up while there are open slots. but where in the triangle ASU dominates at; winning, alumni support, funding?

^^^and from above;infrastructure, potential, and the market the school is located in are other tokens.
