Summer Camp at JSU: QB battle

JSU signs a lot of high school stars at qb who just don't pan out for some reason... maybe it's coaching!

Without a doubt it's coaching. I was told they have been lacking a QB coach but supposedly it has been addressed.

Dude we still should've dropped 50 on them. Wilson was terrible. There was nothing stopping us from scoring at will. 34 points just doesn't do us justice in that game. AandM just ain't on our level. They looked like a bunch of high-school kids running around out there.
where is my RicoRichardson gif??

GR,

I remember. We just toyed with them. We just blew series after series. We would be at our own 30 ... never tried to run the ball, never tried a short pass. Wilson let Casey throw 4 balls into the endzone. So glad he is gone.

None of the QBs are good enough to start for JSU. Just like none of your QBs are good enough to start for JSU. Some things can't be coached beyond a limit. Ivy is talented. He will last and he will start. Hope he can get a redshirt this year and Comegy can sit back and get ready to wind his career down in dominating fashion.

Perhaps I should have posted that as "supposedly" good high school qb's that yall signed. Going back to the TC "Vick" Taylor praisings, the Trey Rutland praising, and whoever else that TP and others claimed to be the "next big thing".

O ok well know I got it but Trey Rutland and TC Taylor were both good qb's IMO....but I wont say ever qb is a world beater we have had our bust recruits just like other schools have but right now I know we have a Good Freshman QB and Good QB that transferred in also a proven QB coach to work with them....the offense will still be the Air Raid offense...The Running Game will be a beast this year tho!

MH, you going all the way back to the Big Daddy and Hughes era? TC was a superstar WR and Kent, whom we recruited as a freshman, took the QB spot from him. Since that time, we have given our recruits the opportunity to compete for the starting job. They often leave. JSU does not coddle players. We even had a transfer QB from a BCS school leave after the spring. If they wanna go, they can go. Comegy is the best recruiter in the SWAC. Know that when you sign the dotted line. Someone is always there waiting to take your spot. That's just how we roll in Jackson.

Jackson State reports, prepares for 'brutal' camp........... Video included

Jackson State senior Joesph LeBeau had one word of advice for the team's incoming freshmen Wednesday as players reported for preseason camp.

"Stay hydrated," LeBeau said with a wry smile.

JSU will hold its first practice tonight as it begins a preseason camp that coach Rick Comegy, now entering his seventh season, has already warned will be the most physical of his tenure.

With 19 seniors returning, it's a veteran group that has been through its share of sweltering August practices.

"Coach Comegy always has a brutal camp," senior receiver Rico Richardson said. "Every year it gets harder and harder. We need it, we need to get pushed

musical chairs at quarterback is never a good idea. He needs to quickly settle on the best one and ride with that one, so people will know who the unquestioned field general is.

You don't have to worry about that. We pretty much have 7 QBs on the roster but between position changes, redshirts, etc..., we have two (three at the most) QBs who will be battling it out over the next two weeks. See you at Homecoming.

You do realize that you don't have a decent qb on your roster and that none of your qbs could even compete in JSUs camp this year and that Doug is not going to recruit a good qb as long as his son is there? You do realize that right?

The NFL is cutting back on "harder" practices, while cats like Comegy is grinding college kids into the ground.

EASY HERE,

Are comengy kids getting millions to play......Injuries are what distroys ownwers pockets......JSU kids like other HBCU needs more time on the fileld and in the classroom

So if he's such a great recruiter, why are you guys such infrequent participants in the SCG? Where have your team finished in the East the past 4 seasons? If the talent is being recruited, can we attribute the lack of SCG participation on coaching?

Can somebody answer this Question: When is the last time a swac coach actually development a Freshman QB? Do the swac even development QB in this era?

It's coaching MB, bottom line. The SWAC for the most part is a victim of it. But Comegy and staff have been some of the worst at it. Stupid stuff like throwing on the worst run defense last year. Things like that. Comedy reminds me of Dale Brown at LSU, helluva recruiter and has all the talent and pieces to win SCGs, etc, but can't coach their way out of a paper bag. He's lucky he had Casey for two years and a good defense to carry his a$$.

They can be on the field without having extra contact. They need to learn how to execute better moreso that hit harder. You won't hit the right guy if you aren't executing properly.

Hmmm, interesting deduction.

You may want to transfer those same thoughts to Stump.
