Did anyone see that atrocious display last night vs Argentina? :D I'm not sure if it's too much partying, not being serious, too much foreign sex lol, et al... but that did NOT look like a basketball team last night. :read:

The great coach "K" has his hands full attempting to educate those "professional" guys on basketball fundamentals, on the proper way to bust a zone :smh:, AND how to focus/concentrate to hit a funky free-throw while @ the charity stripe from the VERY OBNOXIOUSLY LOUD "whistling" that's occurring. :smh: :smh:

What a great day this is. The exposure is just RIGHT around the corner. But, just as long as the guys can "dunk" :retard:, that makes them the best ball players in the world and stupid americans who know no better think this is how basketball is to be played: one-on-one dunkfest lol.

:retard: lol

I saw it. This team looks vulnerable and disgusted me last night. They actually could have lost that game. The Argentinians stacked the inside at one point and coerced them into jacking up quite a few of poor looking treys. They also had a poor performance against Brazil. Comparable to the Dream Team? Yea Right!!! :emlaugh:

As soon as I saw this game, I knew that TEAM USA would struggle with future opponents.

Last night showed me that those individuals still have some growing to do. I believe Coach K pulled their coat tail at the half and told them what Argentina was doing. However, toward the end of the 4th quarter, they reverted back. It will be interesting to see how they play against Spain Tuesday afternoon.

I think the problem with us (meaning fans) is that we don't realize how good the rest of the world is in basketball. Argentina has a lot of NBA players on its roster. So does Brazil and Spain.

This is not like 1992 or previous years where USA could roll over everyone just because those international guys were not accustomed to competing against elite American basketball players. But at the end of the day USA, even with a lack of size, is far and away the best team in the Olympics.

Y'all do know Argentina has Ginobli, Luis Scola and a few other internationally experienced ballers. The Spaniards will be the toughest test, since they'll trot out Ibaka and the Gasol brothers in the front court.

So did the team in 1992 play against pros. Why do you think NBA players were sent in the first place? The difference is you're seeing more foreigners in the pros in part because the talent level decreased in the NBA opening the door for more of them. This is a weak team and certainly haven't peaked. The current NBA talent is good but not where it once was. I will agree to disagree and move on.

+1 to all that ^^^^^^^^^^^. It was an amazing thing to witness. Also, I think the american squad can be mentally rattled quite easily based upon the looks of disgust I saw certain players exhibiting. :read: You know others are watching this and will take advantage of it, if possible.

All I can say, if they don't win the gold, I wonder if Kobe will still say they are better than the 92 team.

They played against 1 current (at the time) NBA player. Drazen Petrovic. That's throughout the entire 1992 Olympic Games.

Remember, in 1992, Yugoslavia fell and the players went from a united Yugoslavian team to the Croatians, Serbs and so on and so forth. A unified Yugoslavian team would've had Drazen Petrovic (RIP), Vlade Divac, Toni Kukoc, Dino Radja and few other ballers that would've competed, but not defeated, the 1992 Dream Team.

Since then, the international basketball players have gotten way better, like Dirk Nowitski's come-up in the late 1990s. Also, these international boys aren't scared of the American pros no more and feel they can play with them, and beat them.

Wikipedia article on Dirk Nowitski said:
Abroad, Nowitzki's progress was noticed. In 1996, FC Barcelona Bàsquet wanted to sign him, but Nowitzki refused to move before finishing his German A-levels.[16] A year later, the teenager participated in the Nike "Hoop Heroes Tour," where he played against NBA stars like Charles Barkley and Scottie Pippen. In a 30-minute show match, Nowitzki outplayed Barkley and even dunked on him, causing the latter to exclaim: "The boy is a genius. If he wants to enter the NBA, he can call me."[17] On March 29, 1998, Nowitzki was chosen to play in the Nike Hoop Summit, one of the premier talent watches in U.S. men's basketball. In a match between the U.S. talents and the international talents, Nowitzki scored 33 points on 6-of-12 shooting, 14 rebounds and 3 steals for the internationals[2] and outplayed future US NBA stars Rashard Lewis and Al Harrington. He impressed with a combination of quickness, ball handling, and shooting range, and from that moment a multitude of European and NBA clubs wanted to recruit him.[18]

The Dream Team was an integral part of the worldwide expansion of basketball, but since 1992, more nations have implored their best young players to come play at American colleges/prep schools to learn the nuances of the American game...along with invest in having American coaches come overseas to teach them more of the American-style game along with the Europeans' preference for versatility — remember this, Russia's Arvydas Sabonis in 1988 was considered by some to be THE BEST BASKETBALL PLAYER IN THE WORLD..a center that could defend, score, shoot, pass and run. Could you imagine a young big man with a Sabonis-in-his-prime skill set nowadays? Well, that kid will more than likely come from overseas.

I didn't say anything about "NBA players." I said they played against pros. International players were not as prevalent in the NBA back then. You do know there were other pro leagues in the world? Right? :emlaugh: And if more people/countries "implored" their pro players to play in the NBA after the dream shocked the world as someone stated (which IMHO is not the exclusive reason) above doesn't that mean there were pro players that had the talent that were not in the NBA back then? Yes? Do you remember why America started using pro players? It's not necessary for you to answer these questions, just stew on it. :emlaugh:
