The NCAA will announce "corrective and punitive measures" for Penn State on Monday morning, it said in a statement, with CBS News reporting the penalties to be "unprecedented," affecting the football program and the school.

NCAA president Mark Emmert will reveal the sanctions Monday at 9 a.m. ET in Indianapolis at the organization's headquarters along with Ed Ray, the chairman of the NCAA's executive committee and Oregon State's president, the news release said.

A source confirmed to ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg that the penalties will be significant, but did not confirm that it's a joint agreement between Penn State and the NCAA.

"I've never seen anything like it," CBSNews.com reported an unnamed source as saying Sunday morning.

Just knew the NCAA couldn't pass up the chance to gain more power and authority.:smh:

I wonder what can the NCAA do that hasn't already been done to a school other than ban them from bowl games for years to come.

Where's the due process for Penn State? Yes, this is unprecedented.

The NCAA is simply caving into pressure.

The Feds are about to get them next. The Department of ED has had investigators on campus for about a month. There were serious conversations going on last week about snatching their Title IV eligibility.

I hope the NCAA doesnt do anything rash and over the top. Im assumming they will try to take away wins, no bowl games for a while abd maybe no tv ... And maybe some scholarships and some type of fine. But anything close to trying to dhut the program down would be a big mistake and lead to class action Lawsuits by players....

Now there is no reason to do all of that. That would be hurting the students that attend the school, not the ones that actually covered the stuff up.

Well, from what I understand coaches from other schools have already been sniffing around the Penn State football program exploring the possibility of acquiring players.

I think the ncaa is gonna give the penn state players a window to transfer free of charge. Its only fair.

That might be the case, but fall practice starts next week. And what about those kids who linger at the bottom of the roster? I would imagine it would be tough to pick up and make the team at another school.

If you at the bottom of the roster, your ass better stay put. But the jr's and soph's who just are not confortable being there.

NCAA president Mark Emmert has decided to punish Penn State with severe penalties likely to include a significant loss of scholarships and loss of multiple bowls, a source close to the decision told ESPN's Joe Schad on Sunday morning.

But Penn State will not receive the so-called "death penalty" that would have suspended the program for at least one year, the source said.

The penalties, however, are considered to be so harsh that the death penalty may have been preferable, the source said.

So true, how the hell can they come up with this stuff in a few weeks but it took them years to investigate USC. What about all the other schools that they have been investigating that has real problems. I guess I need to go back and look up what they did to Baylor basketball when that ball player was murdered and the coach tried to cover up for his players.

As I have stated before. The NCAA was within it's right to take action because the cover-up involved student athletes. That was not the case here.
