It's a shame that HBCUs have so much hate toward one another. :shame:

Just for clarity, my question wasn't hate-spewed. I'm actually excited to see Bama State make these great strides. The more they get, then the more we can push our administration. If all of our schools sit back and be stagnant...then none of us would get anywhere. The more schools with vision, the better this conference will get.

To be frank, I think they just put those two HBCU names out there just so that people wouldn't say that they were prejudiced.

We are graduating our people. Like i told you earlier. An FBS move has nothing to do with academics. You are clueless bruh.

:lmao::lmao:

Gram shouldn't go there on academics but I am taking the high road on this one. I would love to see 6 of us go FBS together.

Dude, we're talking about overall academic numbers for the entire university, not merely for athletes.

Degreed programs, labs, equipment, partnerships with other universities, etc.:smh:
He don't even try to comprehend what the discussion is about so forget it man.
One track thinking..............Football only.

I never said it did. I am just saying Gram shouldn't take Academic shots at anybody right now.

Again GSU graduates its people. GSU partnerships with BPCC and DCC. Graduation and retention rate increasing. One more thing, FBS move has nothing to do with academics.

You can't read dude, your boy Jayrob brought up academics. Thats what happens when you just chime in, not knowing what the hell is going on. Typical.:emlaugh: Why would i bring up academics when that isn't a determining factor for an FBS move? rotfl

WOW.

***** please.

Grambling has a 28%, 6 year graduation rate and had a Cohort Default rate of 17% in 2007. That CDR just started coming down.

There is a reason Grambling closed its admissions. The quality of students you were attracting fell off big time.

Now I am back to the high road.

Say what? Are you serious? Schools get far more money coming in from endowments and federal grants related to academics than from athletic budgets. I can't believe you even let that statement come out of your mouth.....but then again I can.
Vanderbilt is to the SEC as Northwestern is to the Big 10. I'll let you figure out the rest....if you can.

Shows what you know. Over half of UL System graduates are not counted in graduation rate. Google it lmao. Think you are in the know but have no idea lmao. Please stay on the high road, especially when you don't know the facts lmao

Again I aint hating on no one this is for DISCUSSION SAKE...But no one cant make a move up to FBS division successfully without improvements academically in terms of INCREASED ENROLLMENT and facility improvements in place (meaning on the ground) its not feasible to happen without that...All of our HBCUs have work to do but some more than others....Again I applaud Grambling for getting on this list Hell JSU werent on it but in my honest opinion it was based on Conference record and no other factor..

All this hate stuff is just fluff for I dont want to have an respectful convo for the topic at hand....

Grambling's retention and graduation rates are improving, especially with the university being more selective. DUH. All this over vote.

What's wrong with being upfront and honest?:noidea:

Would you rather us piss on your head and tell you it's raining?

Who are you for validation? Don't get mad at me JSU was mentioned. LMAO JSU wasn't mentioned because of that mediocre football program. Plain and Simple. It is what it is.

Getting an invite to an FBS conference involves more than just football. The Big 10 will not just go after any school that has a good football team - their academic reputation as a conference plays an integral part in that decision, too. It's about money and what your university can bring to the table. Southern Miss has one of the most powerful mid-major football programs out there, but you don't see them getting any invites. Nobody in the SWAC has what it takes to get an invite to move up right now - nobody and that includes JSU, Grambling, Southern, Bama State, etc.

What do you think it would take to move up? What specific things would Grambling, Southern, Bama State or JSU have to do to move up?

Perhaps you're right, but that speaks to the ignorance of the article's reporter regarding academic AND athletic requirements necessary for the FBS level.
Like I said, he was probably including certain schools just so he wouldn't be labelled as bein biased against HBCU's.

Yep. That about sums it up. Academics play a big part because if you move up to the FBS level, you have to have more majors to entice FBS level kids to come to our schools. Sounds like Bama State is doing so with their plan. I think MH mentioned a Forensic Science building. That is good stuff. But you nailed it about the academic side of it. You can move to FBS if you want to. But if your entire school has not upgraded themselves to be competitive for FBS level STUDENT-athletes. Then you just wasted your time. There is a lot of planning that has to take place before any of our schools make that move. No smack or jealousy from my part on what each SWAC school is currently doing to improve. We are just not there yet. None of us. Some are doing more than others but just not ready to make the jump. Poll or no poll.

First thing we need to do is sit down together and look at the blueprint of others who recently made that move. Look at what they offer academically. See how they increased student enrollments, added academic program, raised money from donors and alums for athletics so they can compete. You need to make sure your infrastructure can support fielding a FBS level football program. What the costs will be to do so. It will take serious research and planning first. A complete feasibility study that includes everything. Financial impact, Academic impact, etc. You may even have to bring in a third party to help you with the study. Then once you get all that. You will have to develop an action plan on how to accomplish that goal to move up if the study shows that it is a reasonable option for your school. There are enough case studies out there to see how others did to move up. You will definitely need to hire people who have done this before. You can't be new to the game and have some folks who have no clue leading the way just because they are alums of our schools or have worked at our schools for years.
