USA Olympic T&F Trials

I feel bad for this young lady....

Agent: Jeneba Tarmoh could concede

Jeneba Tarmoh's agent has said that her client is ready to concede the final spot on the U.S. women's 100-meter team to Allyson Felix, but that USA Track and Field officials had advised her to sleep on the decision.

The agent also said the decision wasn't final.

"When I spoke to Jeneba (on Sunday), I got from her that she was uncomfortable with the idea of a runoff and a coin toss and that she was no longer at peace with the idea," Kimberly Holland, the agent, told ESPN's Josina Anderson. "After she spoke with me, Jeneba told Allyson how she felt. My understanding of how Jeneba left that conversation was that she wished her good luck and was conceding the 100-meter spot to Allyson."

"My plan is to call her again this morning," Holland said. "When I spoke to Jon Drummond (chairman of USA Track and Field's Athletes Advisory Committee) about it, he said let's let her sleep on it. I know this is a very tough decision for her. I want to make sure she did not make an impulse decision."

Jeneba Tarmoh will not participate in the runoff vs. Allyson Felix for the third and final spot on the U.S. team for the 100-meter women's race at the 2012 London Games, USA Track and Field announced Monday.

The runoff -- a winner-take-all race -- was to be held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

"We are disappointed that Jeneba has changed her mind regarding her position on the Olympic Team," USATF president and chairman Stephanie Hightower said in a statement. "We all worked hard to reach a consensus on the tiebreaker, but we know that Allyson, Carmelita and Tianna will represent Team USA well."

I think Allyson should have stepped aside and allowed Jeneba to have the third spot in the 100m since she earn a spot in the 200m and they both would run the 4x100m relay... just selfish...SMH!

All athletes are selfish to an extent... You have to be... I just can't believe USATF did not have a contingency plan for this... I really feel for her, but I am a Felix fan, when she is not running again Richards-Ross!!

I was hoping and even thinking that Allyson would have done this too^^^^^^^^^. Yet I would not consider her selfish since it was her right not give up her spot...(shrugging shoulders)....Even though I'm confidant she can take the 200 Gold provided nothing goes wrong, I don't see her winning the Gold in the 100.

I'm gonna have to ask for forgiveness but I just can't help myself...when I look at Felix and Ross and Lolo some others on this USA Women's Olympic Track team...I know that there is a God (a..huh) somewhere....

If Jeneba quit, she does not deserve a spot. If she didn't feel that she could beat the girl head up, then she was right ... she lost. You don't need people like that on your team.

Allyson shouldn't have conceded anything. She was willing to race the girl head-up. She's a runner. That's what she does. If you're running, I think the object is to win the race. She shouldn't be giving anybody shit.

If you can't win, stay your ass at home. That's the way I feel.

I'm proud of Allyson. Don't give her a damn thing.

I agree 100% if she gave it up like then guess what.......She don't want it. Why should Allyson give anybody anything in a COMPETITION?

Forget that mess, it is a competition and she had the opportunity to beat her head up for the spot.

Jeneba had a legit gripe. She crossed the line first.

Didn't look like she did to me. If it was that clear then she'd be going to London in the 100. From some angles it looked like Felix crossed first. If what you say is the case then why punk out of it?

Sprinter discusses decision to concede 100m Olympic spot to Allyson Felix

EUGENE, Ore. –– After a tumultuous nine days weighing her options with regard to the dead heat in the women’s 100m, Jeneba Tarmoh came to the difficult decision to concede her place on the Olympic team to her training partner Allyson Felix. The 22-year-old sprinter spoke with NBC Olympics about the process she went through in coming to that conclusion.

Why did you ultimately decide not to run?

I felt pressured into having to make a decision. They said, ‘Do you want to concede or do you want to run?’ I was like, ‘Are those my only two options?’ They said yes, so I said, ‘Yes, I will run.’ But then as I was going throughout the day, I thought about it and I ran that 100m, I took my victory lap, I went through the press conference, I got my medal, and then they tell me I have to run again, after I ran six rounds of the 100m and 200m?

This woman is a loser. Period.

The photo showed a dead heat. If your options are to give up or run ... and you choose to give up. Then you don't deserve a spot. If you'll give up in the trials, you'll give up in the Olympics.

All of the excuses and rationalization ain't worth a damn.

i always thought that they always went by whoever torso crossed the line, not any other body part. if you look at the pictures both runners torso crossed the line at the same time and therefor it was a tie. the other woman is just a quitter. dont need those types on a team. dont anybody remember how awful the relay teams were 4 years ago

I agree. But what would you have done if you were in Allyson's shoes? I mean, I am just saying (as someone once said).

The electronic timer had her ahead by 1/1000th of a second. If that isn't enough to grant her the win, why measure to that level at all?
