SoCon Loses TV Deal

She ain't going to do it unless She gets a commitment from your alums that they support her move. Because it is going to cost money. Hell the first move is to cancel the SCG all together if the conference wants to go to the playoffs. Now if that doesn't happen and Dr Meyers and JSU alums are pissed off about it. Then it is going to cost you guys dollars to move to another conference or be independent. So that means again, she will have to get a commitment on some money from somewhere to do that. Unless you guys are sitting on a pile of money. You can see how hard it is for some of the bigger schools to pay their exit fee and entrance fee to another conference. Not cheap. But it starts with each schools alums. The question JSU alums on this board should ask at their next National Conference is how many of the alums want to see a playoff JSU? If you can rally your money alums to agree with what is being said on here and then commit to it. Then it might happen. But if the majority of your alums don't care. Why should your President or AD? We always expect our leaders to do something on their own. Well we all know that aint the case. Look at the FBS level Presidents. It took a lot of pressure for them to even agree on a 4 team playoffs. And they only did that when they saw the $$$$$ and realized they couldn't stay in their box any longer. LOL. But make no mistake about it. They had full support from their money alums before they made any decisions. We are no different. Just on a smaller level. We have to remember these Presidents are not always sports minded and have bigger fish to fry than just athletics. So they need a push from alums and the ADs to look at the big picture. Just saying.

THANK YOU.

They talk big stuff about the CONFERENCE and they haven't done the work to get Jackson State to the spot where they could compete in that setting and not just be one of the teams there.

I understand all that, it's been discussed plenty of times and I don't think anyone is saying it will be an easy thing to do or that it will be successful in the beginning. But at the end of the day what we are doing right now aint working, makes no sense to ME.

And I know the "usual suspects" are going to come in and tell us we have no right think outside of the Box and that we need to just accept what we are given and be happy. :happydance:

Never accept the regular. But if you're going to talk about it, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! That's my sole issue with y'all. Y'all talk all day and like clockwork, you are back to Memphis playing TnSU when you could be getting your feet wet with higher level FCS competition. Hell, Bama State has at least taken a step in that direction by potentially leaving the current TDC behind.

I have never said that I don't want Southern to be better than they are today. They should be. But anyone with damn sense knows there is NO school in this conference TODAY, 6/29, that is ready to be a constant on THAT LEVEL. Doesn't mean that we shouldn't try, but constantly degrading the conference as it is today doesn't help none of us. Improving our individual schools levels pulls up the conference and I don't see how YOUR school is doing that with your football program.

Hell...............

If that is a STEP FORWARD for Bamma State, JSU and Alcorn did that back in 1980, (32 years ago), when we moved our Turkey Day SOUL BOWL to the week before Thanksgiving to accomidate the playoff selection comittee. JSU was already in the mix. THE REST OF YOU MOFOS DIDN'T DO SQUAT TO HELP. Whats the point of dropping TSU in 2012, (A PLAYOFF ELIGIABLE TEAM IN A PLAYOFF ELIGIABLE CONFERENCE BTW), when the only damm thing we play for is a freaking SWAC title and nothing else. Why don't YA'LL make a damm move for once instead of talking about others that sacraficed our "traditions" over 30 years ago while ya'll didn't do a damm thing except keep the status quo.

Whats the point of changing shat on our own when we got a dumb azz Commish that got on TV over 7 years ago and basically laughed at FCS when the question was put to him at the SWAC pre-season circus about making the conference playoff eligiable. That dumbazz shouted NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
End of story.................and again..................I :lmao:

first and foremost, calm down!

so, if your school did something 32 years ago and you still aint got the result you want, who are you mad at? Has it entered your thought process that what you want to happen may not be what the school officials want to happen? Do you express your venom to your school officials or do you just get yourself worked up on tspn?

and btw, in the 32 years since, the TDC hasn't stopped your school from going to the playoffs.

See..............

This is why I laugh.
Did I say the TDC stopped US. Show me where I said that...........Please for once...........SHOW ME WHERE I SAID THAT. Hell........... Bamma State was not really not even in the MIX of my comment. I just made a comment on a statement the SU poster POSTED about BAMMA State.

Anybody else can come in here calling people dummies, and talk all kinds of shat and you just co-sign. Every time a person makes a comment and try to discuss anything that don't agree with the status quo YESTERDAY thinking, you start with the HE MAD crap. Get something new MH because it's a boring response after all these years. We done been down this road MH for over 7 years. Been posting this since the first 9 game mandate came out in the early 2000 and I said then we was fugging up as a conference and YOU KNOW IT.

Whats the point of me saying the same thing over and over for the last 7 years only to have you gloss over it and not comprehend anything being typed. If you would actually READ an entire comment in the context of the convo and at least TRY to comprehend, maybe you would actually see what a person is saying instead of typing in crap that you want everybody else to THINK they are saying. :smh:

Again............... I............ :lmao:

But I'm sure you will come back with HE MAD.

You guys are something else the SWAC and the presidents stopped the Playoffs run...But it just amazes me how our conference is kool with being the Best of the Worst...:smh:

83,
In response to your "the rest of you mf's didn't do squat", I referenced the TDC to illustrate that game (or the BC) doesn't make any other swac team ineligible for the playoffs.

as for you being mad, you respond to folks who have a different position than you by cussing, posting in bold, posting in red, and flying off the handle, but if that's a normal response to you, then ummm..... ok. My bad.

Have a great wknd everybody!

The rest of ya'll didn't do shat to make the ENTIRE CONFERENCE ELIGIABLE. DO YOU GET WHAT ENTIRE CONFERENCE MEAN. Yep......... We did it 32 years ago. Ya'll joined the SWAC in 1982. Its 2012 and the poster from SU want to talk shat about JSU but poraise ya'll for THINKING about dropping the TDC 30 years after we already went down that road.

Lawd have mercy....................... :lol:P

Dang............ I guess now you gonna start taking 2 words out of a complete statement and twist that into something personal. as for my response, I respond to people the same way they respond to me. People want to come in calling people dummies, stupid, etc., will get the same thing back.

But being as blind as you are to CERTAIN POSTERS HERE, I'm sure you never see their jacked up post to people. Anything else you think you have me cornered on in you "Pick and Choose" calling outs?

Like I said, all this crap now makes me laugh. I gave up years ago and if these stuck in the past posters don't like me responding to them in the same way they respond to me, tough. I really don't GAS.

Really don't care if certain ones never post to me again because it's all a waste of time talking to them anyway.

I agree MH. I know my frat means well and his concerns are genuine on his posts about it. But the fact remains that just being eligible is not the only answer. It is only a piece of the solution after you have developed a road map to be successful overall athletically. Secondly the TDC and BC did not keep folks out of the playoffs. The SCG did, which all our then Presidents and ADs along with the commish at the time agreed on.

The other thing is that Tn State has been in the OVC for a long time. We have a great example to look at what it has done for their program. No knock on Tn State. I like the school. But when talking to their alums they are not satisfied with the progress. They are in a playoff eligible conference and they have improved their facilities at that. But it has not translated to the success that they had when they were an independent. So we all must ask the question, what is the RIGHT plan of action to move forward? Just showing up and playing aint the answer. Hell that is what is wrong with our coaches now when we play OOC games. We just show up and get our arses kicked for the most part.

I would like to see the conference improve as much as anyone on the board. But some are just thinking all we need to do is play in the playoffs. What people don't understand is that just one or maybe in a good year 2 teams playing the playoffs do not help the entire conference. Everyone in the conference needs to be playing these playoff caliber schools during the season. I don't know why folks think you can just show up in November and think you can beat an App State or Montana just because your conference got a bid. But you played nobody but your conference games and maybe some other HBCUs or D2 school out of conference. We will not beat those schools until we get these teams on the schedule. And we can stop saying that they will not schedule us because we don't go to the playoffs. Well the Ivy League don't go and they get folks to schedule them. The Ivy League blatantly thumbs their nose up at the playoffs. Aint interested for academic reasons. LOL. But they shole will go to the NCAA basketball tourney.

No need to even think about moving to FBS when budgets are flying past PLUTO the way they clownng his over the budget differences on the FCS level as a reson we can't compete.

OPPS............
Maybe I should not have used the BOLD RED. MH might see that as a sign of me being mad at you.

You guys are something else the SWAC and the presidents stopped the Playoffs run...But it just amazes me how our conference is kool with being the Best of the Worst...:smh:

I don't think anyone is cool with the status quo. But again, what are OUR MONEY ALUMS doing about it. Or what are the masses of our alums doing? It is not Mighty Hornet, JR, etc stopping the train. It is each our schools alums which includes all of you that have not taken up the fight to each President and AD. Has the JSU Blue Bengal Association voiced their displeasure with the AD and President about the conference not participating in the playoffs? Has the SU and GSU National Alumni President gotten letter after letter from concerned alums about the playoffs and heading him to go talk to our respective AD and Chancellor/Presidents/Boards to move the BC? What about AAMU? Bama State alums? I mean it is nice to have a dialogue about it on this board. But until each of you or us go to our respective fellow alums and rally them up to change things in the conference. We can't beytoch about it. Now after doing all that and our leaders still go tell you to pound sand even when you have money in hand to donate to the cause, then you have a legit argument that our schools are not doing anything. They only do what we let them do. TSPN is not even a fraction of all our alums. LOL. These kinds of topics should be brought up at local alumni meetings and National conferences. Emails should be sent to Presidents, Chancellors and ADs. Otherwise the SWAC Presidents think they are doing the right thing.

There are very few Presidents at any school that are serious advocates for athletics. At the big schools they got people to do that. Those Presidents don't have to worry about athletic budgets because they got boosters and alums who take care of that. That is why they hire the ADs do all that. If anything they want to know how much money can athletics give back to the general funds and don't embarrass the school with some scandal with the NCAA. LOL. Otherwise they don't care. Ours are no different. They are academic driven. The only difference is our presidents have to find money for everything vs the PWCs with money alums. So any proposal to them better show them how much this will benefit the University overall.

Nothing wrong with talking the playoffs. But what is each of you who want it doing to make sure your voice is heard by your alums who have the power to convince your President or AD to lead the charge? That's all any of us are saying.

P88 has said he has tried at PV and gotten run out of town. But at least he has voiced his opinion with the powers that be. Unfortunately he doesn't have enough PV alums to help him persuade the establishment to do anything different. I of course base this on all his comments and posts over the years. I haven't seen where anybody else has posted their experiences of trying to talk to leadership. I know MD can do so at AAMU and C-Leb28 at TxSU. But have the rest of you gone to your leaders with this? Just asking?

Awww shucks JR................... Thanks. :goof: :lmao:

Frat, I am on the high road in this thread. I know you mean well on your posts. Now you already know we just differ on how it needs to be done. I still think we got to get these teams on our schedule first before just showing up in the playoffs. And we need to have a plan to recoup the losses that SU and GSU will have if we did move the BC back a week and they cancel the SCG. But to walk in there and tell those presidents that you have to move that BC so the entire conference will be eligible for the playoffs is going to take some serious legwork with some $$$$ to off set what it contributes to the athletic budget. So you better have a plan. The TDC probably doesn't impact Bama State as much as the BC does Gram and SU. But only they can answer that. I just don't like the mentality of just kill everything for the playoffs with no viable plan of action so we all can be compete and win both on the field and at the bank. FCS ball is not the long term answer in my opinion anyway. Now I know damn well aint none of us ready for FBS ball. But we need to think long term on how that will be the ultimate goal. Which means our enrollments have to increase and we have to get our alums to donate athletically as well. We can't just roll out there on these shoe string budgets and expect our teams to win against those who are in better shape. Bad enough we can barely beat each other now. LOL

We go over this over and over. The bottom line is that people on this board are in the minority of their own alumni and fan's opinion of the playoffs. That's why nothing is getting done on that end. Simple as that. There is no outrage from the masses of SWAC fans and alums to their respective Presidents and ADs that we need compete in the FCS playoffs and get rid of the SCG. All we have collectively shown is that when we play a PWC even at home. We don't show up as we do when we play each other.

As for folks saying not trying with the budgets we have and comparing the FBS level budgets. We all know budgets will never be equal on any level with every school or even conference. So I get that. I also get what JRock is saying as well. We are barely staying afloat where as Montana and App State are not. Sure Bama has more money than Boise State. But the difference is Boise State aint broke. They have decent enough stadium and facilities to recruit kids who may not be at the level of recruit that Saban and Bama can get. But Boise has ENOUGH money to play those bigger schools and they will PACK their stadiums no matter who shows up. And if you dare venture to their stadium at the wrong time of the year, you may get your arse handed to you. So yeah while budgets can be huge in difference on the FBS level. Those schools are still FBS level schools. So they can also get kids that were borderline FCS/FBS level kids as well as some that are legit FBS kids. We got a lot of reasons why the MEAC and SWAC have not done well out of conference against FCS level opponents that are not HBCUs. We only recruit whatever black athlete that we can get. Maybe a white kid here or there. The other FCS schools have a mix. They have better coaching staffs overall. I will not go into every detail why our record is crap out of conference. But it is what it is.

Now going forward if so many people on here are pissed about our direction. Why haven't any of you started a coalition of like minded alums at your respective schools and go to your leadership and demand some improvements. Be prepared to bring your checkbook when you get there as well. That's what those schools who are competing and WINNING on the FCS level alums and fans are doing. You better believe if Northern Iowa needs something within reason they will get it done. Same for App State, Delaware, Montana schools and Dakota schools that have invested in their programs to excel. We sit around and argue on a sports board and do nothing at our schools. The administrations have no reason to change if they think no one is interested or see no financial opportunity to do so. Folks getting mad with each other on here like folks are in charge of making it happen at our respective schools.

Get out and run for your National Alumni Presidency or at least local chapter office and then take your message to the masses and then to your school leadership. Sitting back hoping your leadership has some epiphany and just say we are going to do this is just wishful thinking. Hoping your school leaves this conference when your own powers that be are not upset with the conference is more wishful thinking.

Then I laugh when folks get mad with SU and Gram. If the BC moves their date and they cancel the SCG. Would folks really be happy? Would the masses of SWAC fans shout from the mountain top and say free at last? Would our conference automatically get better? We go to the NCAA basketball tourney every year. No restrictions. Has that helped us get better? Have we hired better coaches? Have we recruited better players? Did we capitalize on SU's win in the tourney and JSU's win in the NIT and not to mention TxSU's near win over Arkansas? Did that translate into better basketball play from the SWAC or did we get worse. I say this as a reminder that just allowing the chance to compete is not the only answer. And lets be real, some of our schools will be struggling to make those trips to Montana in the playoffs. I am not saying we never try. I am just saying we need to get our houses in order first and build up our infrastructure to not only just go to the dance. But to do some damage when we get there. We also have this mentality it is just good to be there. Moral victories don't count in the win column. So if we are going to compete the right way, our schools need a plan and it's more than just showing up at the dance hoping you get lucky and dance with the pretty gal. You need have devised a method to your madness before you arrive. That way not only do you get to dance with the pretty gal, you also get the everything the pretty gal has to offer. LOL. Translation for those who are not following me. You play to win the game. Thanks Herm.

Another great post......You are nailing it!

In the current economic and enrollment climate, SU and GSU would be crazy risking not being on NBC.

In the current economic and enrollment climate, SU and GSU would be crazy risking not being on NBC.

Cliff, I totally agree. That's why I say that SU and GSU alums can't just roll into their respective President/Chancellor's office and say we need to move the BC back a week to help the conference get an auto bid without having a plan of action to offset the possible financial repercussions and as you said being possibly taken off NBC due their commitments to Notre Dame that Saturday before Thanksgiving. Folks say we are being selfish. But who in the conference is going to help us fill that void if our fans or just fans of the Classic itself don't support the move and we lose the revenue we do get from the game and the fact it puts both schools out there to recruit not just athletes but regular students because they see that game on TV. Risk mitigation has to be done before making those type of decisions. Hell, I do it everyday at work with our global supply chain. You have to have a backup plan or something in place to offset something that can affect your bottom line. It is not as simple as some think it is. Not saying it will never happen. But to get it done, a viable plan of action will need to be presented or those powers that be will laugh you out of their office.

But I attribute much of the HBCU attendance slide to our administrations standing pat while PWCs were seeing our college ready kids as a growth market. Just like U of PHX ATTACKED working AA adults wanting to go back to school as a growth market. In todays market place, if you are standing still, you are falling behind.

Agree.....

This whole thing boils down to support.

The Southland and MEAC can't have championship games because no one would come. The SWAC gets 20-40K at our championship game and those are not bad numbers. Could be better but we have many challenges today with promotions as now 1-AA football is President and king.

We can have a Championship game because we have the best support at this level in terms of fans but that is as far as it goes. We still need to get out of certain mindsets. Alcorn still thinks they have a visitor side to their stadium. Valley and Alcorn don't even give close to max scholarships. PV spent years giving no scholarships and they still have a schitty stadium. UAPB, AAMU, Grambling and TxSO are far behind in local support for games. We STILL only show up to games to see the opponent. We have 10K people at a football game but can't drag 1000 people into a bball game. SOMEHOW, ALL OF THIS IS THE SWAC OFFICE'S FAULT!

The bottomline is that we need to support! Without support, we can't have anything. We have alums who run off at the mouth, boycott, etc.. like that is the solution. No, the solution is to raise millions and millions of dollars. We are not "them" so we have to dig deep to sacrifice to do it. Last night I was a Georgia Tech event in Philly with a dude from here who dropped $25M last year and another $25M this year. Then another dude got up sipping on a Coke telling us how a widow of a Coke exec left us some Coke stock in her will back in the 1950s that gives us $10M a year in revenue! WE DON'T HAVE THAT SCHITT! NW State and Delaware are not GaTech but I bet they have MANY alums who can drop off 6 and 7 figure checks. Until we learn that we have to give, give, give, we will forever be in this rut. Give and convince others to give and when the day comes when we have alums giving $3M (which some schools get from one supporter.. :smh:) SPECIFICALLY TO ATHLETICS maybe then, we can move to another conference, be independent, etc.. Until then, keep :bawling: because nothing will be done.

Put up or shut up!

THANK YOU.

They talk big stuff about the CONFERENCE and they haven't done the work to get Jackson State to the spot where they could compete in that setting and not just be one of the teams there.

I can tell you now that our fans would love to win the National championship but they won't be going to Georgia Southern to watch us play in a semi-final game. Now if we happen to get a game in Jackson, the playoff committee will try to get a game there every year... Honestly, I don't know what the intentions of the current administration is as it pertains to JSU athletics but they still have fools in their ear harping on spending millions on a stadium when we already have one of the best stadiums at the 1-AA level.

What we need to get smart and learn how to use our money. If JSU, Grambling, etc.. are going to play these "money games", they need to starting taking those payouts and putting them into an athletic endowment. SU and GSU could take half of what they make from the BC and do the same. Yes, that would be a sacrifice but the future is what blinds black folk. They can only see today and tomorrow. Fugg 20 years from now. If budgets keep getting cut by 2%, 5%, etc... eventually nothing will be left. If we don't start planning now, we will be in deep schitt. Dr. Mason even tried to tell these black folks that but they had a hard time understanding what he was saying.... "the day WILL come."

There are 15 different convos going on in this thread. My original question was how was the SWAC HQ ranked in terms of rev generation vs other FCS conferences - they have ESPN:Southwest Airlines:Farmers Ins:HealthSouth:et al bannering everywhere so, where are the #s (not its individual members) and while I'm on this subject, what are the #s ($) garnered from each of the SCGs? Pre-expenses (gross receipts) and post-expenses. Lastly, why is it such a big secret since there's been what 10 or so to date? If the SCGs were so profitable, where are the #s posted? And, don't say diddly-ad-squat about the raggedy conference website because those in charge cannot spell the word "update" in a timely manner. :retard: I'd proven that 2 years running now.

I'll understand if some attempt to play captain-save-a-hoe for the SWAC HQ's ineptness. We all know inept hoes tend to save each other when they're doing their dirt.

Aside from Appalachian State... Who does the SoCon have that anyone in the south really cares about? Georgia Southern hasn't won any titles in years. Nationally, Southern, Grambling, Jackson State, Florida A&M, SC State, Hampton, and Howard are more well know and have better brand recognition thanmost other FCS Conferences... And I think its REALLY starting to show now during these tough economic times.
