Sources at Alcorn State have confirmed that Patric Simon has resigned as the school’s athletic director.

The resignation comes just one week after the school announced Jay Hopson as its first white head football coach.

According to sources, Simon emailed a letter to Alcorn State President Christopher Brown Monday morning formally resigning from the AD position. However, it was known as early as Thursday that Simon would resign.

Is Alcorn that messed up? What is really going on down there?

Sound like "power struggle" #29 on the reservation.
Everybody wants to be the BIG CHIEF. Been that way every since the President, Clinton Bristow Jr, died back in 2006.

Count so far since then:
5 head football coaches
This will be the 3rd AD after this hire.
3 Basketball coaches
1 baseball coach (Rat retired)

Man ain't it a shame the way all our schools go threw this mess. :shame: It is like every other three years a different school goes threw this mess. It takes years to recover from it too.

BTW....It is messed up stuff happening at my school as well. We are going to lose a whole generation of alumni, as young people will not be loyal just because. You are going to have to show them value for their involvement or they will keep it pushing. Asking them to go through archaic systems (alumni assoc) that over promise, under deliver and tend to be hold head driven and not listen to young people just wont work.

Suurrre you knew. Folks gone learn not to label somebody as "hatin" when they're only telling the truth.
Alcorn folks are VERY divided over the Hobsen hiring to the point that the AD just couldn't take it anymore.
Sounds like backdoor politics is alive and well at Alcorn.

No sir. He was just upset he couldn't bring his guy from Langston. And we/him knew that back in April.

That's partially true....But no need in hashing negative sh** on a message board. It is for the best for both parties involved.

I have no problem or have any ill-will towards him leaving. He needed to do what was best for him. I wish him well and we will move on. I love the direction we are going under the current prez. Outside of some criticizing this coaching hire, he has done a great coach thus far.

It has been said for the last month or so that he was leaving. They discussed it on the Jaguar Journal.

Good luck at your next job but hopefully he won't go running the first time he is rejected or told no. If so he'll be resigning from TU just as soon also.

Why do some act as if the AD didn't know what was coming down the pipe weeks ago? He had to get his ducks in a row and another job lined up before he left.

It's clear as day that the man didn't want Hopson as head coach.
You'd think the AD would know more about athletic qualifications than a President in a tie and suit.

Hmmm....Not sure about this in all instances. S.U. had an AD that wanted to hire Archie Cooley and a President that wanted Pete Richardson.....We all know how that turned out

That's an exception to the rule, nevertheless your President did allow Stump to be hired.

this is exactly the problem. I don't know how Bristow did it but he kept alot of these people in line & knowing their place. Now, its like all of them are after some type of power grab & influence. Some of these old heads have to go

Uhhh, she helped us get out from under APR penalties in a short period of time. How important is that to sports at JSU?
