Black Colleges Disappoint Again on NFL Draft Weekend

Don't have to respect us, just know your role. SU was in existence before and we are up on you "S"crubs.:read:

Grambling is nothing but S.U.'s seed. A Southernite started all of yours sports and that horse hair band too. You dummies have a one game lead. Don't worry about the fact we're older because we didn't play your country behinds when you weren't in existence. :emlaugh: You got us plucked up with Jackson State's promiscuous azz......

We own yall... we put yall on the map. Just as the Globetrotters made the Generals known...we did the same for the jags.

The only thing You clowns own is the pollen back there in the woods. And S.U. brought you all fame by showing the world you all are hillbllies of color.

Mike Bigg not lying, there was a significant portion of SU's fans that were very vocal in their dislike of Pete even before the million dollar deal.

No there were not. You only had the few who couldn't control things. During the 90s run with Pete. He was the talk of the town. LOL. All good. He took criticism like any coach does when he did not win. But for most of the time at SU. Pete was liked by the masses. Now folks didn't embrace the announcement when he was first hired because we had just kicked Winston Salem State arse in Shreveport the year before. But it was better than hiring Archie Cooley who was on Casem's last staff in 92. The only thing folks complained about Pete was he was not very outgoing and did not hang out with the street committee folks. LOL. Pete was the man in the 90s. Undefeated at the BC. Winning SWAC titles and beating JSU in the process during those years. All was good in Jaguar Land.

He caught heat when the 2000s came around and he got beat by mediocre coaches like Hughes. Plus he was getting transfer happy and some of them dudes were not panning out. Then the contract came after the great 03 season. But fans were not hostile or anything towards Pete. It was the last 3-5 years that fan base started turning on Pete. Even I was down with Pete until he allowed Orlando back and they misused JC Lewis and I could see some other things happening which escalated when the team got no better even with an All SWAC QB in B. Lee. Otherwise most Jags liked dude. Some just wondered why he didn't socialize more which in my mind, could have helped the program. If I could combine the old 90s coaching Pete with Stump's social skills and go get them attitude it would be great. LOL.

Not all Su fans think alike. I always laugh at you when you think you know what every SU fan likes. Just because you're a follower doesn't mean everyone else is.:read:
Man I'm very involved lol. That's part of the reason folks were/are against Stump. I had a man argue me down today, that SU shouldn't have fired Pete. They don't care about APR or nothing.

I tell everyone that, SU knows it deep down lol. They are in Coach Robs debt forever, hell we(Grambling) are also but he coached at Grambling but not SU.:emlaugh:

You sound stupid. If anything Grambling owes S.U. and Ace Mumford a debt for teaching Rob how to coach and S.U. and Pete a debt for retiring him. Finally you dummies owe S.U. and Prez a debt for birthing your athletic department and band. Every father's day you should have a thank-you Daddy celebration for S.U. and on mother's day a thank-you celebration for Skegee (that is the where the country part of Grambling came from).

You know Coach Rob tried out for SU's team but was cut. Matter of fact, during Coach Rob's first couple of seasons coaching at Gram, he had a team full of SU rejects lol.

Dude please. I rather country than hood and ghetto anyday. Much better morals, less gunfights, track fights, band fights etc. Gram owes SU nadda, started without SU. Grambling thanks Booker T Washington, Charles P. Adams and Tuskegee: without them there will be no Grambling but SU, hell no rotfl. SU wants to feel so important. :read:

Somebody is missing parts of Grambling history I see.

SU owns the head to head series in every sport except football and maybe women's basketball.

This falls squarely on the shoulders of our SIDs. I said this when I first joined this board and was challenged...I did not mind the challenge because I know the value of keeping our guys in front of the scouts and teams. The old SIDs back in the day understood this and they worked their butts off with far fewer resources. Once an email list is built today it is almost write it once and press send.

I tend to agree with this here.

Colin Cowherd made the point this week that from the National Championship game between UT and USC a couple of years back, 17 players were drafted and most of them were busts.

I think it's just easier to go ahead and draft kids from the Ohio St.'s, UT's, and U of Florida's because you figure they've already played on the major stage against major competition, etc., etc., instead of using a draft pick on that kid from Grambling or SCSU who might not be as "polished," but who will probably end up being a better pro in the long-run.

There's a whole lotta laziness in football today; for evidence one need look no further than the way the spread offense has infected the majority of programs from pee-wee through the college ranks. That crap is even beginning to make its way into the League.

But I have to agree with Herbert, in that I don't think our SID's are promoting our kids the way they did back in the day. Not having those coaches like Coach Rob and Coach Jeffries, etc., who stayed at 1 school for years and years and were able to establish relationships with pro scouts has also hurt.

skip to the 11:42 mark when he discusses the SWAC's own Adrian Hamilton from PV

Its amazing how you guys are dancing around the real reason why BCF players werent drafted this year. Its obvious

hopefully this will atleast get more Cowboy scouts to SWAC games, because Gramb's Hatcher is on the team, Hamilton was picked up as a FA, and they picked up Frank Warren a couple years ago.

Actually, it was last year. I think the lockout hurt Warren's and other guys chances...they didn't get a chance to participate in OTA's and get enuff work in. Hope he gives it another shot somewhere...hadn't heard if he's trying to get into someone's camp or if he's moved on in his field of study.

The SID has nothing to do with a kid being drafted....they only play a minor role once the scouts come to the campus...the key is once you get into a camp, you better impress early to get your name and school out there

A player on our level has to have the "look" first and then "dominate" the competition to become a name on the draft boards

it was different in the old days as there was NFL talent up and down the rosters and it was harder to access the schools....now, scouts come and go as they please through the campus..

it's more about the agent pushing for the kid on that level....and PV has sent 2 straight defensive ends to the league so now, it's about them performing and hopefully the next kid steps up

Would it be any different for a player on any other level?

You don't think players at Alabama's pro day have the look and dominate the competition?

I'm not sure getting into the NFL is about agents promoting a player. It really comes down to the ability to perform at a high level. That's what NFL teams draft and what agents want to promote. The potential to play well and the ability to do so once you get there. Everything else is fluff.

Folks always say that players who go to BCS schools should go to HBCUs because "if you have talent, the pros will find you". Well, is it true? If it's true, it applies to draft day just as much as it does when we want talented athletes to choose HBCUs. We can't use that when we're moaning about recruits and then blame our draft results on agents.

PV's Adrian Hamilton led the nation in sacks....dominated the SWAC...had alot of teams at his pro day, went to private workouts by NFL teams, had scouts come all over for him, etc.....but he went undrafted for whatever reason as they pick your background with a fine tooth comb...

its more than just stats when your coming from the FCS level and you get a late round draft grade.....

I didn't say stats, I said performance. The stats are meaningless when comparing him to athletes from BCS schools because the quality of competition is different. Saying he led the nation in sacks and dominated the SWAC ... ... means nothing. How is his form, speed, agility and technique compared to the other players? How well does he know the plays and react to situations on the field? That's what they are comparing. Can he play on their level better than the next guy. That's what they want to know. Saying he led the nation in any category in the SWAC will make most folks laugh if you're trying to use that as justification to be drafted.
