Obama thinking about supporting 'Gay Marriage' as a platform.

Da Better U get, Da Better we get & That's IT
uh oh. Someone needs to tell him...this is NOT a good idea. He will definitely lose votes on an issue like this. No matter how 'mainstream' the media tries to make this...topic it is far from it.
This would be a big mistake for him.

Please Obama don't do this.

Obama advisers debating gay marriage

Obama’s top political advisers have held serious discussions with leading Democrats about the upsides and downsides of coming out for gay marriage before the fall election, a Democratic strategist who has discussed these matters directly with Obama's campaign inner circle tells me.

This does not mean that it will happen, and there are plenty of reasons to assume it won’t. Indeed, it would be political malpractice if Obama’s top advisers didn’t discuss every permutation and possibility, no matter how far fetched. However, the fact that it has been discussed seriously at high levels means it’s not out of the question.

Those advisers are convinced that Obama will make this call based on his gut, and ultimately without regard to the fine-grained political analysis of the situation, the source says.

Obama will actually gain a lot of votes if he does this. He knows the GOP and the evangelical Christians who back the right will never support such a platform anyway.

He'll lose a lot too.

Many who supported him in his first election do not support gay marriage. That and these abortion issues will make some folks think twice.

It's not only "evangelical Christians" (white Republican bigots) who take issue with gay marriage.

Yeah, I know.

According to a recent Pew Research Center study, 58 percent of Americans say that homosexuality should be accepted, rather than discouraged, by society.

Currently, 45 percent favor allowing gays and lesbians to marry legally while 46 percent are opposed. Hispanics (64 percent) and whites (58 percent) are more supportive of this than are African Americans (49 percent), the study concluded.

Not to mention there are a host of people who believe in a woman's right to choose as it relates to abortion. Sure, Obama might lose some votes, but he won't take a big hit.

The President and the Dems should let the courts work this out. The case rising out of California shows promise that will Be eventually adjudicated by the Supreme Court.

You are dead wrong...media person. This will hurt him. Thank you SUJagfan for telling him the truth.

The media is crazy trying to mainstream this right now...this topic is waay too polarizing in this political climate. Right now Obama can get by & get re-elected by being a blue-dog Demo. If he does this he is headed to the FAR Left & will be plastered as that type of candidate. Its too dangerous for him to do this right now.

Folks like me...will think twice about going to the polls. I just can't support that... this really worries me.

Acoording to a Gallop poll released last May, 69 percent of Dems and 59 percent of Independents support gay marriage. Additionally, 53 percent of Americans believe gay marriage should be accepted and legalized. Will Obama lose some votes and supporters as a result of his stance? Sure because everyone doesn't support it.

However, he'll gain more than lose, considering the majority of country supports the idea of gay marriage if you believe what these polls say.

I don't care what these polls say. These same polls had Americans wanting Health Care reform before Obama was elected too. After it passed...look at the uproar over it. A small minority can make a lot of noise. Look at how small of a percentage the black population is. Look at how small of a percentage the gay population is...yet you can pile on big pressure with a concentrated effort. The backlash of a move like this will be almost 3 times the size of one of those populations. It would be a mess

Folks get more backlash for not supporting gay rights/marriage/civil unions than supporting those items. If the majority of the country supports gay marriage, I don't see how President Obama also supporting it will significantly hurt him in the polls.

Youre Beliefs and Politics are on two different sides of the spectrum...

This is about VOTES dude.... Nothing more nothing less!!!

If this is true, he will become a flip flopper. I might just sit out in that case.

That is what people who really look at politics will consider and the GOP will coin him as a "flip flopper". Questions that will arise: "Why is he taking a stance on this now", "Is he just doing this to get the LGTBQ vote", "What is his motive", and then they will start to question his faith and Christianity. He will lose more votes by being seen as a wishy washy politician than for the new platform. Plus, you got to remember people thrive off of being politically correct these days. Just because people say they support gay marriage in a Gallup Focus Group, does not mean they will support it in a booth, alone, on election day. It is out now though, so even if his advisors decide not to proceed with the platform, that will even cause some people to question his movites for doing certain things.

Obama will gain so many votes. Older black folks still goin vote for him. Plus look at majority of the black churches...the choir leader is flaming....plus gay folks running this world....especially the undercover gay people.

I know this & just like Killer Bee I have the same type of feeling about this. That's possibly 2 votes from 10 posters on this thread that have openly stated they might stay home. this doesn't include the ones who secretly won't vote. What voters would he gain? He already has the gay vote...but he would diminish his black/white church vote enthusiasm too much. Churches would not push him as much if he takes a stand like this. The youth vote is already not as hype as 08. This will not help him.

@ Kendrick if only 53 percent believe Gay Marriage should be legal that mean 47% do not. That is a huge minority that will be very energetic to plaster him as a far left looney. Its crazy that only 69% of Dems agree with that. That isn't a strong percentage...that means 30% of Dems don't agree. He would be hurting his Dem voting block by fracturing it on a social issue like this. He shouldn't do this.

You can believe Van Jones if you want too. I'm speaking whats real.

President Obama today announced that he now supports same-sex marriage, reversing his longstanding opposition amid growing pressure from the Democratic base and even his own vice president.

In an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts, the president described his thought process as an “evolution” that led him to this place, based on conversations with his own staff members, openly gay and lesbian service members, and conversations with his wife and own daughters.

"I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don't Ask Don't Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married,” Obama told Roberts, in an interview to appear on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Thursday.

True! In Maryland gay marriage will be voted upon in November. I think the vote will be in opposition of the gay marriage. Even the churches are pushing it's member to vote against gay marriage.

dang...smh

The Pres just lost alot of the black voters support. People are already coming out on facebook saying it.

I would hope people don't sit out or vote for the other guy on this issue alone. It's your choice and your vote, but there is so much more at stake. And people change their mind all the time, so how is one a flip flopper.
