Saints hire new DC

Other than doing the obvious by re-signing Brees, Colston and Nicks...go and get a D lineman, linebacker and CB. I'm satisfied with the safety play...for now.

I think its possible for us to resign Brees, Colston, and Nicks. They have more cap room than expected.

- Report: Nicks expects to leave Saints

All-Pro G Carl Nicks is expected to leave the Saints when free agency opens in March, ESPN reports. Nicks is expected to command one of the bigger contracts for a G in league history. It would be difficult for the Saints to carry two sizeable contracts for Gs with Jahri Evans, who signed the biggest contract for a G in league history two years ago. Saints RapidReports

Carl Nicks has blossomed from a guard who dropped to the fifth round in 2008 to an All-Pro OL -- one of the best in the league at his position. The Saints would undoubtedly love him to return. The problem is that New Orleans paid fellow G Jahri Evans the richest contract for a guard in NFL history. Nicks will command more than Evans. Saints RapidReports

Not so fast. Brees plans to have a contract done before the free agency period. If that's the case we can just franchise Nicks and work on a deal for Colston.

Porter will probably be gone. Vilma still has time on his contract. If Vilma can stay healthy he's good but Dunbar looks like he may get some serious consideration for MLB.
But I'm hearing that you all may cut Vilma to free up cap space. He's your defensive leader on the field.

Now I'm hearing that if you all dont sign Brees by next month, you may have to use the franchise tag on him. And if you all do that, then Nicks walk.

Yep but today Brees said that he fells a deal will be done before then and he's trying to keep his offense key players in tact.

I say put the franchise label on Brees and revamp the entire defense with better strategies. See you can have the people but if they are unwilling to do the job...move forward. The major problem with our defense is pass coverage.... Look at the last two play off games we lost. Our defensive play calling allowed teams to stay in the game by blitzing when the defensive coordinator should be calling for a blanket coverage. Out corners and safety's are no good in man to man to coverage. Especially with a pass happy team.
