AJC Blog: Mo'Nique Show Cancelled

CriTAUcal

Do Good; Good Follows
This is from Rodney Ho's blog (AJC):

Earlier today, I heard that “The Mo’Nique Show†had been axed. I had sent an email out to various BET publicists to ask what was up. No word back.

At about 1:30 p.m., I called Rodney Perry, who was Mo’Nique’s sidekick on the show. He said he was running into a meeting and didn’t answer my question. While I was at lunch over at the mall court, at 1:40 p.m. EST, he texted me: “I was told indefinite hiatus.â€

That’s a euphemism for canceled.

I'll wait on a confirmation, but I still hate to hear this. Minus her monologue and closing statements, I enjoyed her show for the most part. Though she wasn't a skilled interviewer, I still appreciated how she had guests on her show that we would not have ordinarily seen.

Typical...

Hey, it is what it is. I think the idea of celebs "interviewing" celebs is a total waste of TV time. Heck, the Piers Morgan Show and George Lopez Show are garbage as well.

All that hype and those guys are just a Hollywood schmoozers with British and Latin accents.

Now if the Real Housewives of Everything gets axed, I might watch TV again.

Well how many roles did she have to give up to do the show? She is just now doing her first movie in almost 2 years. She might have wanted more freedom to do movies and who knows how many roles she lost because she was doing a show that was on BET and not on mainstream like Tyra, Oprah and Wendy were/are.

So now the questin for BET is WHO ARE YOU GOING TO REPLACE HER WITH? Golden Brooks? one of the girls from The Game, Lets Stay Together or Tracey Ross's show?

If the show is on BET why cancel it,,lol. I have not watched MoNique's show...but if it's true she had a good run. Everything has to come to an end.

I actually watched her a show a few times. I never thought it would be on for a long time and yes, her interviewing style is horrible.

yes, her interviewing style is horrible.

I don't fault her for that. Her background isn't journalism. Some people have it naturally or trained. She only asks the questions that her producers and/or writers compile. So that's a BET issue and not Mo'Nique.

I hate to see the show go, because what other night talk show with that format do we have that's geared toward our people in entertainment? NONE. At least her show was a good avenue for regular celebrities, lesser-known folks and people we haven't seen in years to promote their work. There was good in her show, it and DEFINITELY progressed as the seasons went on. Not to mention, it was something that was keeping our people employed. Some ya'll may be glad to see it go, but to me, it's another loss of giving people a chance to promote their work (to make a living), and it cuts jobs.

I'm not worried about Mo, because she'll find other projects to keep the money coming in. I hope her staff can bounce back as easily.

Y'all killing me with the "something to keep our people employed"!! Heyal drug dealers do that as well. :smh:

I didn't like HER as a host...I liked the show, I liked the format, I liked the people interviewed on the show. HOpefully BET will find a better host but keep everything else.

Figured this show would not last.
Didn't watch because I'm not a fan of Mo'Nique. Her act get's old and annoying real quick. Being loud and acting ghetto-fab only works for so long. The only good thing I saw in the commercials about this show was the musical guest.

What was the name of that talk show with John Sally and that band called who in the hell left the gate open? That was my favorite night talk show since Aresenio Hall.

WHAT!

I think I'll go sit in the closet and cry now. :smh:

I think you got him confused with Michael Colyar on BET Live.

I never watched her show (not because I didn't want to, just never got around to watching it), but I love her! She definitely has a way of making the people around her comfortable and feel at ease. She came to one of the Delta Classics for Literacy game in Little Rock and she was simply awesome! She is a beautiful, full-figured Black diva who has great talent.

She'll definitely have more projects, Crit.......don't forget, she is an Academy Award winning actress, which makes her a Hollywood commodity! And I'm sure she'll remember those who were on her staff.

I liked her show...hell she had lots of good guests on there. It's funny that the majority of black men hate this woman. I have yet to meet one that actually likes Monique. and it's so strange b/c she is always uplifting and loving on black men and black people in general, so I really don't get where all this hate towards her comes from. Damn, what did she do to y'all?

My people...:smh:
