You call that dancing? Look like a try out for the gymnasts team, the only thing missing are the parallel bars!

It used to be during the last week of Band camp back in the day.

Drum Majors, Jaycettes, and twirler would try out in the old T.B. Ellis gym with the entire band and public present. There were some tears flowing back then cause mofo's was ruthless up in that joint during tryouts back then. They used to hate to see KKPSI walk up in there.

Where have you been? Except for the "Dancing Dolls" and the "Black Foxes", they all dance like that!

lmao.............pure hell cause the crowd seemed so close to the floor and jokers would walk up and down the floor or stand up and point to the door. some contestants would just walk off the floor and start crying lol.....i must say, they earned their positions back then!

KKPSI used to walk in and sit in the stands opposite of the side they perform too. KKPSI and the ig-nant upperclassmen would be the only people on that side.

The funniest episode that ever happened in those tryouts when I was there was back in 1983. We all walked in a little late and went to our seats. Some wanna-be Jaycettes was already doing their routines so we just went to our seats. We could look over the back side of the bleechers and see them warming up. After about 5 more wanna-be Jaycettes danced, they called some of the wanna-be twilers out to do their routine. The old Twriler that everybody knew was going to be picked, TERRELL LEGGETT, came out, stood in the middle of the floor and held up one finger before his song started.

That mofo turned to our side and literally cussed us out before he even started his routine. Hand on hip, finger going side to side, neck rolling. We all just looked at each other, busted out laughing, and fell out all over the bleechers. We got up, turning our backs to him and started watching the old Jaycettes warm up for their tryouts. That was one mad Twirler when we got through.

Dude was still going off when Baby Woo stood up and very loudly told him "Pal, turn yo switching azz around and do you thang". We all fell out again but this time, the band members and people on the other side was laughing too. Haughton and Papa Dup could not do nothing except shake their heads. It was like "Live at the Apolo". All that was missing was the Clown and the hook.

Yeah, the football team used to be up in there janking the girls trying out for J-Settes also.

SMH @ the signs with "cut", "doc fingers" and all other manner of evil on them.

I remember when some chick just would NOT go out to the center of the floor, and the "panel" (Doc 'nem) kept telling her to move, and she would "eench" over a little each time. Ronnie Y. got up and put his tennis shoe in the middle of the floor and guided her over like he was landing a plane.

When you mentioned Baby Woo that got my attention. I had a cousin from Detroit in the band at that time by the name of Barry Greer; I think he had a nickname of Huckleberry. I met Woo, Spain and other band members thru Barry.

They would give us time off band camp pratice to go to that. When they told us to go to T.B. Ellis, would pile into cars and head str8 to Robinson Rd and Prentiss to that 7-11 Mini Mart and each get a half gallon or Gallon of that Draft Beer. We would Huckleberrys van in the parking lot and get full. By the time we walked up in there, negros was RAW.
