So no clear cut superior linebacking corp. Do we have any idea what defensive line groups stand out in the pack of 10? Mind you one person does not a group make, they make the group better.
My choices are;
1 Texas Southern
2 Grambling
3 Alabama AM

Black, sTu's entire D-line ain't nothing to play with. Jackson might be the most imposing, but the others are not slouches.

Ok. I'll take your word because I didnt go to the game. But all I kept hearing was Marquise Jackson on the tackle, Jackson pressures the QB, Jackson on the sack, etc...

THIS is where I think a whoooooooooooooooooole lotta' folk will be MORE than interested to know what's going on about PVAMU. :read: Granted, sTu does have some quality play on the D-Line and IMO, that which was head and shoulders above the rest is Gram's and yes JSU, y'all too. Those 2 squads DOMINATED PV's o-line, and I'm not trying to be 2 funny but PV's o-line was a veteran one last fall. :read:

PV's d-line will be much improved. Esp @ the DE positions. :read: sTu will know EXACTLY what I'm talking about w/ regards to that one particular DE who single handedly changed the entire momentum of the game by plastering lol Arvell-Nelson on that fumble and that errant throw. :emlaugh: D-Nettles (6-2 290 chiseled strong man and 3yr starter - I think) anchoring the middle along w/ another fbs txfer (6-4 310 *anticipated :read: ) anchoring the middle w/ DE former TT txfer @ one end and blah blah blah lol @ the other end, I really think PV is going to make a lot of noise upfront. The most <b>consistent</b> position for PV's defense has been the stellar play @ the DE position. Was very physically light but those guys always got after it. Y'all haven't been paying attention. :read:

Also, for those who don't know. Dalvin Nettles is working on his <b>2nd masters degree</b> lol in what is coming up on a 5th year stretch for him (he redshirted). He graduated undergrad in 2.5 years and is very, very, very, very intelligent. The kind of kid I think ALL coaching staffs would want on their squad and he truly is an asset to PVAMU and gives it all every single down. He really makes us Prairie View proud. :tup:

Amazing isn't it? Graduating w/ 2 masters degrees and 1 undergraduate degree all due to due diligence via a football scholarship. :smh: So many kids don't take full advantage of the opportunity that's afforded them. :smh: PV's former starting middle LBer last fall had one more year of elgibility remaining and could work on advanced degree while playing this upcoming fall but decided to forego it because he'd been accepted and will attend medical school this fall. :clap: He got it done on the field and off the field as well. Those are the types of kids I think a lot of programs are missing and PVAMU did well to recruit and retain those types. :tup: I'd hope every school does well in the SWAC in that regard. I said SWAC, no other conference. *whistling*

they pretty stout along that Defensive front... Losing Chris Anthony hurt us last season, but it allowed former linebacker Antonio Leonard to emerge. Outside folk might not realize it, but there was actually another backup to CA named Preston Numa who missed the season... Both of them being out gave
Antonio a shot and he made the most of it. Antoine Rogers and his former backup SirDerrick "Bear" Landreth will man the two tackle spots with Jomarcus Savage (remember him jags?) move outside on a fulltime basis... Preston Numa will be in the mix as well at DE.

The kid that impressed me was juco Stuart Hain from California... a bit undersized as a DT but that kid has a quick get off and gives pressure on passing downs. Perrsonally, I would move him outside on passing downs and go to a 5-2 package. He and Antonio Leonard as Rush Ends/Linebackers would be deadly.

Kynjee Cotton and DreQuay Everett will anchor the Bama State D-line. We're hoping that 2nd team all swac DE Jimmy Daniels correct an issue that may keep him off the field this season.

C-LeB, not to get into a pissing match w/ you but you do realize that same "group" allowed a community college qb txfer of only <b>1 month</b> of learning PV's offense to do almost what he wanted, until they stiffened in the mid-3rd qrtr and final qrtr, eh? Those guys just weren't that impressive, IMO. Granted, PV's o-line was a veteran group (returned 4 of 5 starters and several who rotated) but still... won't lie though... on the ground, sTu was bringing MUCH heat. But, through the air? :smh: Pass rush? :smh: Wasn't there, considering all the red-carpet names on the list of DL y'all had. :smh:

Another TSPN poster and I were talking about this very same topic of PVAMU's defense in 2011. He reminded about the defense last year, despite the team being banged up, really stepped up in the middle of 2010 season & ended with a sound bang! Coach Northern will do well teaching his defense how to better read the opposing offense.

This kidd, Nettles, is an asset to PVAMU. He should the poster child of what it means to be student athlete. But then again, Prairie View, imo, has always placed a high emphasis on being a student first. Kudos to him and to the PVAMU family!
