Jackson State's and Alcorn's Athletic Budgets loses funds

Braveheart is just on that crap from yesterday with his whining delusional azz lol. There is no way legislation should be bias due to sports conferences and tv deals. Why would you cut funds from the people with the least? I know the economy is off but that's flat out wrong. If they truly cared about HBCU's they would take a little from the ones that get the tv deals and increase the HBCU budgets to give them a better chance.

look like they took Alcorn Money in gave it to Delta State then Took Jackson state money in gave it to Delta state, Valley in the rest to Ole Miss.
lLooks like the State is saying that Those schools need the Money to Compete while Alcorn Jstate Valleyand USM really dont compete for anything at the national level so lets minimize them

These budgets are 90 percent self-generated, in other word the state isn't giving the schools this money. Also, a budget is projected income and expenses.

Basically the state is going to give less towards some athletic budgets and the way the government and state houses is slashing, finds given by the state will continue to decrease. Nothing more, nothing less. If we want larger budgets for our schools we must send larger donations.

I think what Brave is trying to say is you can be in a conference and SUCK, but if the conference make the right decisions and everybody is on the same page, everybody wins.............status, money, budget, etc. Ole Miss and Mississippi State got over 18.5 million for just being in the SEC. And that is just the TV rights alone.

The money schools get from the state that go towards their budget is a different story. Some get cut in years wheile others get a slight increase. This year, JSU came in on the cut side.

Here is the main reason State and Ole Miss got so much money to spend. Donations from those booster clubs and self marketing.

Thank You.

Dude, they give a shat about SWAC Schools in Mississippi. The SEC schools are their babies.

BULLSHAT!!!! Ole Miss's Football Team got beat by FCS Jacksonville State last year and SUCKED the whole season.

Yet, they saw the biggest increase due to them just being an SEC member. See my point?
ole miss was terrrible last season. hell its bad when u got to import masoli- who was a probably at oregon. basically a HIRED GUN who didnt get the job done and still got a bundle of qbs on your campus. not only that, nutt stockpile players from the hs and juco ranks. to the point where the ncaa has mandated a certain number of initial signees. hell if i was jacksonville state's coach, hell i need a budget increase.

off the topic-

that CONERLY AWARD should have went to jackson state's quarterback instead of the miss st linebacker. dont get wrong me, the kid at miss st is good (drafted) but terriault is more valuable to his team, imo. and if you look at past winners of the award, im still waiting for a winner of this award to be from a HBCU. they (voters and attendees) were shouting to the top of their lungs when masoli was introduced- HE WAS AWFUL ESPECIALLY AS A LEADER!!! could be the main reason why they finished last, and by the way MISS ST was picked to finish last or next to last!!! I trully believe that the team didnt want to follow him at all

How do schools award full scholarships in their budgets? I see schools with budget cuts still offer full rides for everyone so are they cutting other areas to keep full rides for all 18 or so sports?

That's why I hate when people hire from SEC schools without much research thinking they did something great....you start out with $18 million in the bank! All you got to do from that point is maintain!

Dude, Ole Miss and Mississippi got $18.3 million from league revenue sharing. As I stated earlier, Ole Miss sucked last year.

You know, I'm an Alcornite but Comegy did mention something some time ago I believe about SU and Grambling sharing their profits of the Bayou Classic since they take pride in "being in the way".

Maybe Comegy was right afterall.

I guess if the SEC has a team in the National Championship Game Each Year, it benefits the WHOLE CONFERENCE.

Still doubting this..lol

If prices are cheaper, shouldn't more people come to games according to the Law of Demand?

Last time I checked, aren't ticket prices for a SWAC Football Game cheaper than those of an SEC Football Game? Help me out.

Not really- Where are most SWAC schools located at versus most PWCs?

In other words after parking, gas and tickets does the amount equal out between the two?

Who is the SEC team playing versus who that SWAC team is playing? Am I seeing a future NFL player on that SEC team versus the SWAC-that will be an impact player?

Remember the SWAC has something else to deal with beside PWC football-HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. Who wants to see PV vs Grambling if they are playing the same time as Cedar Hill vs Duncanville? Or worst Carter vs Kimball?

I don't think this is just solely based on economy.

It's not. I'm sure the state looked at everything including athletes graduating in determining how to cut funds. So if those schools tha tlost money started yelling-they can point out that you are not doing this or that. So your budget gets cuts.

It's going to be the same mess here in Texas when the state is done butching education. TCU, Texas, SMU and a few others are going to be fine after the $1 billion cut in funding is done. Now PV, Texas Southern, North Texas and others will be a different story.

In Alabama the legislature appropriates funds to all public institutions. The administration of the institutions decide how much of the funds should be appropriated to their sport programs. All state budgets have been cut. many institutions have increased student fees and tuition to off set the cuts. The SEC negotiates TV deals and disburse those funds to member institutions. The Bayou Classic has its own TV deal and not the conference. Why should Grambling and SU share their revenues with other conference members?

Dude, you don't seem to know what you're talking about. Now you're talking about a budget, but you wanted SU and Grambling to scrap the day they played their highest revenue producing game. LOL!! And you never said how they were going to make up that money other than saying folks need to give more. Heck, a ten year old knows that. Other than that, you haven't presented one clue as to how a school can bring in more revenue.

Yes it does because the SEC just like every other FBC conference share all of their bowl money with the conference. So if 9 out of 12 schools go to a bowl game, all 12 schools get a share of each of those 9 bowl game revenues. That's nothing new to football or basketball. Just like all 10 Swac schools get a cut of the 1 basketball team that makes it to the NCAA tournaments money.

There is no way in hell that SU/GSU should share any of their money from the BC with any of the Swac schools. Would you like to give some of Alcorns money that they get from playing JSU? No, that's between them and them only.

So the SWAC Conference Football Champion cannot represent our conference in the FCS Playoffs because of two teams in a 10 team conference? What shat is that?

What type of odds are those? You're basically saying these two teams are the SWAC. That is bullshat.

JSU vs. Alcorn is not in the way of preventing the SWAC from participating in the FCS Playoffs. The Bayou Classic is a different story.

You need to try to stay on topic or at least stay on track with what the reply was to. Now you want to talk about FCS playoffs when we were talking budgets, bowl money and game money from schools.

SMH.......sad

You do realize that all of that fits together right? By playing in the FCS Playoffs, that will bring much needed EXPOSURE!!! Folks talking about we are going to get beat, Hell nobody loses forever. You don't know if you don't try.

Once again, You Don't Know If You Don't Try. The MEAC is trying by at least the giving themselves an Automatic Bid. The SWAC isn't even trying. If you start winning in the playoffs, you start getting recognition which may bring sponsors, etc. Sponsors=Business Opportunities=POTENTIAL REVENUE.

Once again, You Don't Know If You Don't Try.

As for the athletic budget deal, I have already stated that Ole Miss sucked in football last year but still reaped the benefits of being a SEC Member. Yes, we get a cut from the basketball tournament but Hell, when did basketball triumph football in popularity? We here in the SWAC can't even get along because everyone is so busy trying to save their own ass instead sacrificing for something better for the WHOLE CONFERENCE.

I have said many times, dude just likes to see the black and white on the screen. lol

If I am a good SWAC Commissioner, I want to think what is best for the WHOLE CONFERENCE. I would not let two fellow institutions dictate how I should plan for the
whole conference. If they do not want to Compromise moving their game when it is clearly in the way of the FCS playoffs, they are going to have to give up something to meet halfway. They cannot have their cake and eat it too. It doesn't work like that.

I am looking at positive vision that benefits EVERY SWAC MEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!
