SWAC Directors of Athletics (ADs) and Senior Women Administrators (SWAs) did not vote on conference postseason participation

For the record, according to my sources, including Dr. Charles McClelland, the directors of athletics and senior women administrators did not vote on whether to ban SWAC athletic programs from the SWAC Championship Game or the SWAC Basketball Tournament. There were internal discussions, but a vote was not taken. In fact, the SWAC presidents/chancellors met in a closed door session to discuss and ultimate make this decision.

In regards, to other news from the SWAC spring meetings, the SWAC voted to send all 10-member institutions to the conference tournament. While the men's side will only have eight teams participating because of the NCAA postseason ban associated with APR scores, the women's side of the ledger will see all 10-member institutions participate in the conference basketball tournament.

I like that part about sending all 10 teams to the conference tournament, BUT, I can only wonder why the directors of athletics and women administrations didn't vote :noidea:!

They may not have but the Presidents did vote.

NCAA Postseason Bans to Include SWAC Championships and Tournaments

League presidents adopt SWAC policy to adhere to NCAA bans, effective immediately

Birmingham, Ala. – The SWAC Council of Presidents and Chancellors voted Thursday to adopt a league policy to prohibit any member institution subject to NCAA postseason bans to include SWAC championships and tournaments. The policy is effective immediately.

Currently, the policy prohibits Southern and Jackson State from being eligible to participate in the 2011 Farmers Insurance SWAC Football Championship, and it prohibits the Southern and Grambling State men’s basketball teams from participation in the 2012 Farmers Insurance SWAC Basketball Tournament.

So these dumb mo-fos' put in the rule AFTER THE FACT??!! Say what?!! This is too funny, yet so sad!!

You're going to adopt a policy after schools have already been penalized, then you're going to enforce it the same day WITHOUT any warnings? What kind of a conference is this? Bush-league at it's best.

At least three more SWAC schools will follow JSU and SU next year in being banned. It's only a matter of time and they KNOW who they are.

I have been saying that for a LONG time.

Did they vote on whether or not the bands, cheerleaders, praise teams, choir, mothers board, etc.... has to go to and who will be paying if they did?

One of the most anticipated seasons in Jackson State University football history received a jarring blow on Thursday.

After months of speculation and weeks of waiting, JSU learned it will not be eligible to play its way into this year's Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Game because of poor academic performance.

Presidents and chancellors of the 10-team conference also voted unanimously Thursday to ban Southern University from the conference title game, voicing their displeasure in the poor academic standing of two of the conference's most successful and followed football programs.

The vote conforms with an NCAA ruling released three weeks ago that banned the two teams from the postseason for a poor Academic Progress Rate, a rolling, four-year figure that measures academic performance. But that ban did not include the SWAC Championship Game, where the league's two division winners meet for the overall title.

That decision was left with the conference.

JSU hit hard, banned from SWAC title game

What a way to celebrate 100 years of Jackson State football this upcoming season. Sad to hear that Jackson State. :smh:

Re: SWAC Directors of Athletics (ADs) & Senior Women Administrators (SWAs) did not ..

At least this dude is pointing the finger towards the people at fault:

Jackson businessman Chris Bell, a 1993 JSU graduate, said he was disappointed and hurt to hear Thursday's news and about the football program's poor academic performance. "It's all about leadership," Bell said. "You have first and foremost the football players who are accountable, the coaches are accountable and I will go so far as to say the president is accountable. I love my university. I am praying for them daily. I won't stop supporting them, but hopefully things will turn around."

Blacknbengal ,

Yes, in 2012, the SWAC presidents/chancellors supported the measure for sending the cheerleaders, dancers and bands to attend the SWAC Basketball Tournament.

Is the SWAC Office paying for it?

At least you are openly honest in your misery, hate and selfishness....So Sad!

Re: SWAC Directors of Athletics (ADs) & Senior Women Administrators (SWAs) did not ..

I'm still trying to get confirmation that the SCG is considered a post season game.

Because if it isn't then what's the point?

If it is....vote understandable, if not they could very well be shooting the bullet that will killed the conference and not even know what they're doing.

It is not a postseason contest per the current NCAA rules. I believe now that this 'loophole' is clearly out in the open now as it relates to the SCG and other conference championship games (most notably at the FBS level). The NCAA typically fills these quickly and I presume that next legislative cycle, the organization's membership will move swiftly to cover it.

Perhaps Jafus can enlighten us as whether the SWAC received information from the NCAA to support my presumption...

Re: SWAC Directors of Athletics (ADs) & Senior Women Administrators (SWAs) did not ..

Most people know the SCG is post season, i don't know why they are trying to act brand new.

Re: SWAC Directors of Athletics (ADs) & Senior Women Administrators (SWAs) did not ..

Anything that happens bad to JSU is alright with me. Good job folks.

Poor Casey T.- Hurt last year and this year he will be playing only to save JSU's name for what it's worth.

Bipolar people, I tell ya. Now just another expense to add to a school's strained budget.

At least it won't be like Alabama State and Texas Southern playing to save it's name since Tuskegee was the real champion.:snicker:
