SWAC Commissioner talks SCG, APR, Post Season Bans & Basketball Tournament

So from what i'm getting from SU Jag and Jayrob, no one should be banned since the APR is so unfair. Interesting.

The SWAC should have strict rules in place for the SCG (since it's not under NCAA jurisdiction) before banning teams. Don't make up rules after the fact. APR/SCG guidelines should've been put in place five years ago, but the SWAC office dropped the ball on this one.
Now we've been relegated to allowing subjective voting by Presidents who may have their own agenda for voting yea or nay. That sounds more like bush-league than anything.

Some of you people have some low standards and allow your school pride to push you hell bound. No team that the NCAA banned should be able to play for a conference championship, nor tournament, nor play-offs. Morals, Ethics and plain do right is really becoming extinct. Can some please explain to me why should a team be allowed to play for a conference championship when they didn't meet the APR standards? Isn't that defeating the purpose and putting sports over academics?

Give it up man. :smh:
People honestly think we are bullet proof from futher penalties the NCAA might hammer us with at a later time because we HBCU's and Jessie and Al might start protesting. This is why I say the SWAC is in a world of its own. Reality staring people right in the face and they still want to give the NCAA the long middle finger with a fart mixed in. If people here want to truely believe the NCAA don't know the SWAC don't participate in the postseason football playoffs, ya'll are really kidding yourselves. :uhoh:

One should note: The SWAC Tournaments (i.e. Basketball Tournament and etc.) are not NCAA postseason tournaments.

True and if i can recall in Sharps interview he feels that GSU and SU should be banned from the tournament so what's so different about SU and JSU not being banned from the SCG?:read:

No implications? It's showing that the SWAC Office/ Presidents are saying to hell with a APR and more specifically saying f-ck academics. If that's the case why ban basketball teams in the SWAC from a playoffs. None of our teams make it pass the first round anyway but banning them is showing that academics is first and doing the same thing in football is really showing that academics is first.:read:

Actually, JSU can make it to the playoffs in the right situation but as others have stated, the ban on bball is more in line with the NCAA penalites than a ban from the SCG. Banning those teams from the bball tourney is only following the mandate from the NCAA. Banning a school from the SCG is going above the penalties issued from the NCAA.

What can one of the most racist institutions in sports called the NCAA do to the SWAC that it hasn't already done?

The SCG belongs to us, so they have no say in the matter, but for some odd reason, we want to indirectly give them power to have a say in the matter.
What has the NCAA done for the SWAC besides put us in "play-in game after play-in game? We are tolerated at best.

It's the big boys (i.e, the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, PAC 10 etc) they cater to in the first place, so in essence, yes.....the SWAC is in it's own world.

I agree with this. Now is the time to put down some rules. However, i still think we are dealing with two separate issues here. The bball decision can affect our bids THIS year. The SCG won't affect anything. I think that the situations can be handled fairly, separately.

Again lol.
You have to ban basketball because they arent elgible for post season play and the basketball champion will participate in post season play. Football since there isnt post season play, there is no need to ban anyone.

APR is unfair and very skewed. They give you arbitrary numbers like 887 but they don't tell you that means that 88.7% of your athletes passed and/or were retained. Also, when it comes to HBCUs, they don't seem to granting us the waivers for our athletic teams doing better than the rest of the student body.

The Basketball Tourney nor the SCG are post season according to NCAA guidelines but they are both crowning the champion of the conference why ban from the tourney and not ban from the SCG when both are crowning the conference champ? Why allow schools that the NCAA put a ban on anyway be allowed to reap the benefits when other schools, especially A&M handled their business in the classroom?:read:

Still beating a dead horse. The SCG and the Tournaments are still crowning the conference champ. Many can twist all they like but it is what it is.

OK, keep playing dumb. I won't keep going there with you as you know the difference in the situations.

Do you know how sorry AAMU athletes are? We can all have high APRs like Valley and AAMU and Alcorn if we get the athletes with the grades that NOBODY else wanted. Those schools have to scrape the bottom of the barrell for talent.

Go ask Archie Coolie and UAPB.
Won't be a death sentence but they can dang sure take your NCAA credit away and make you a renegade club team.

All will get banned so i don't know why i'm going through this. The Presidents are going to look out for their teams in which they should lol.

Thats exactly what he is doing  .

But they are handling their business in the classroom. You can hate on them peeps all you want to but the APR shows otherwise.

Do you seriously think the East Presidents will vote yes for JSU when that gives their team a chance? Surely You Jest.

:lmao::lmao:
If thats the reason they would vote against JSU its BS and is another reason the conference is in the shape its in today.

Honestly, what would you rather have, sorry kids busting 3.5's in the classroom and having losing seasons or winning seasons with good athletes who are strugling in the classroom. Let Doug come to ya'll with a 4-7 record and a 1000 APR, ya'll wouldn't give a fugg. Keep it real!

This is the MAIN reason why there should be NO vote on the SCG. The bball tourney is a clear cut matter where you really don't have a choice. The SCG is different and people can vote based on personal agendas.

Well Sharp said it would be a vote.

Also the SWAC is on a uneven playing field. We know most PWC's have General studies and such to keep their athletes eligible, and tutors to do all of their work, while @ HBCU's athletes are majoring in real majors.

I would rather kids handle their academics and maintaining winning season like our football team is accustomed to doing.
