Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State HC

Re: Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State HC...

Alabama looked that way last season too, and look what happened. Look out for Arkansas and Miss. State.

Yea, but 6 teams had a BYE week before they played Bama, who was the defending national champion!!! They will be a key game for everyone they play, but they won't be THE GAME on everybody's schedule like last year! Now, of course it won't be a piece of cake.....especially in the SEC WEST!!!!!!! MERCY!

Re: Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State HC...

............AND you don't lose 9 STARTERS on defense and expect to repeat! Sorry......

**snicker**
I wonder if the NCAA will do Ohio State Football like they did Memphis basketball when it was found out all that crap happend before and during the season.

Wonder if they will wipe out the entire 2010 Ohio State football season in the record books. We shall see because they got a clear cut case to do so. Those players were ineligible from opening day and the coahes at Ohio State knew it. Now everybody know they knew it.

That aint no big deal to them. They will gladly give that up to be left alone as far as post season bans where they make money. 2010 was not a NC year. So they will probably voluntarily vacate the 2010 season. Sugar Bowl don't count since the NCAA allowed the kids to play. Aint that ironic.

Whats getting me is all the reaction to Pryor showing up to a meeting on campus in a 350z recently. He's just rubbing it in everybody's face. Some tOSU message boards are saying Pryor drives a different car every semester. He's even gotten traffic tickets in them. He's toast!!!

You know, I just don't buy it. He will be a traveling road show with ESPN next season. More than he did at Florida. At least he had 5-6 games at home. Notice his statement yesterday. All this health and family thing was to leave Florida. I think he got tired of being there. Plus he actually had more issues with players getting in trouble than OSU did. He said he will not persue a coaching job this Fall season and remain at ESPN. I was like really Urban. He knows Ohio State aint going to look for a coach until 2012. After this season. They already said Fickell will coach the whole year. Why didn't he just shut up folks and say I aint coaching this year nor next year.

LMAO @ Mike and Mike arguing about Meyer going to Ohio State. I hope he stays at ESPN. Not a big Meyer fan.

He'll definitely be in the mix, despite what he says to the contrary right now. As he wrote in his own book, Ohio State is one of the 3 jobs he told his wife she has no veto power over. If (OK when) Ohio State comes knocking, he'll be listening. I hear Dantonio thrown around a lot, but I'm not really sure it happens. Even with the ceiling he'll have at MSU with Michigan in the same state, I'm not sure he moves from one Big 10 job to another. Plus, the fact that Ohio State will likely be seeing USC type penalties or worse will keep some candidates away.

I always felt this would ultimately cost Tressel his job, but I did think he'd be able to resign after this season, and he probably would have if the scandal had stayed where it was a week ago. Now, with all the other revelations that are coming out, I'm not sure AD Gene Smith survives this either.

That was before the NCAA was aware that Tressel knew about the violations. Depending how deep the Pryor thing goes, OSU could end up vacating multiple seasons, which of course in the grand scheme of things really isn't that big of a deal.

I doubt it. They only have players saying they sold these things over the years. Hell they may have been doing it for 30 years now. They will focus on the email traffic which is hard evidence that he knew. Then you will get into the hearsay stuff with all the talk. Pryor is probably going to get hemmed up because he is driving a new Nissan 350Z. He better hope cousin Charlie bought it for him.

Yep.
Tressell and Ohio State looked the NCAA str8 in the eye and lied their azzes off to them. The NCAA don't like that kind of shat no matter if you are Ohio State.

Ask USC and Reggie Bush. Another one of the traditional NCAA "untouchable" upper tier programs.

Yeah, that will be interesting to see how he plays that one. Pryor should go ahead and get an agent. Better call cousin Charlie Batch to say he bought those cars for him. LOL

Keep on thinking that Frat. Tressel got the hammer. Pete Carroll got to escape. Not only that USC still got slapped on the wrist considering how much money was involved with the Reggie Bush thing. Unless the NCAA can prove that other than Tressel knew......it will be status quo just like Bama was when they should have gotten the death penalty a few years ago during all that Albert Means stuff.

The difference between USC and Ohio State is OSU has way more resources to rebound faster than USC will. They may get a post season ban for one season. But let's get real........you are talking kids selling small isht versus Reggie Bush's parents living in a big nice house and money exchanging. Just like Tn is not getting jammed for all their coaching issues. They just couldn't replace Kiffin with a better coach. LOL. It aint going to be as ugly for Ohio State as folks think. They are already loaded for the next couple of years and the Big 10 is not the SEC where you will see a kid pick Indiana over Ohio State. LOL.

Pete Carroll didnt escape.
He ran like a rabbit before anyting hit the fan. He was in Seattle with the Seahawks before anybody even knew he had left USC. Tressell tried to ride it out.

Yeah but USC couldn't show the NCAA they had punished Carroll because he got away. LOL. At least OSU can say.......see we ran off Tressel. LOL. Poor USC got left holding the bag and Pete Carroll got a raise and a NFL job. He aint coming back to college ball anyway. So USC had to bear all the penalty.

See how you are guys are talking about Terrelle Pryor because he is a current athlete at Ohio State? Please understand that at the end of the day, he is still a young adult who is still learning. Don't down the kid because he went to a school of his choice and was given "extra" benefits which are illegal but to his enjoyment. If you were an 18-year old kid and you had a scholarship to either Alcorn, Grambling, JSU, and Southern vs. Ohio State, Florida, Georgia, Texas WITH BENEFITS (meaning cars, money, etc.) tell me which one you would take? Please do not base your response on what you know NOW but how you were thinking as an 18 YEAR OLD.

It just seems to me that we always want to throw the heaviest stones at the black athletes who go to the "big" schools. Wonder if we would be doing the same thing if they went to HBCUs?

All I'm saying is don't down the kid. He is still human just like the rest of us and he makes mistakes too. Same goes for Ray Small.

It's like I said all along, the cover-up was worse than the crime, which really were just a bunch of minor secondary violations. Tressel lying to the NCAA on multiple occasions is where the trouble is going to be. Considering the other things that have happened on his watch and the new Pryor stuff, it's all but certain that OSU will get hit with lack of institutional control violations. I could very well see all of last year being vacated based on the tattoo scandal, and multiple seasons being vacated based on how bad and deep the extra stuff Pryor did is. But as I said before, in the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal, much like USC, OSU has already cashed the checks.

His traveling is to call a game, he doesn't have to gameplan, scout teams, or worry about recruiting. Not to mention having to deal with the daily stress of managing a game in stressful situations. He just has to do his research, analyze a game, and go home.

They didnt make any mistakes.....They knowingly broke the rules...make no mistake about it.(pun intended) Those kids knew exactly what they were doing. Just got caught. Shouldn't be speeding in loaned cars(T.Pryor) and putting facebook post up of all you cash and jewelry (Auburn players). Don't have your dad riding to road games in private jets and bragging about it when he's the janitor at the high school.(Reggie Bush) If you don't blow your own whistle, the haters will turn you in.

That's exactly what I said earlier lol

Working at Florida was more stressful health wise than being an analyst for ESPN  Tell me what is hazardous to his health sitting on his arse? Does he stay up late at night creating a game plan with the GameDay crew? Does he have to drive the GameDay bus? lo

I guess he has to recruit new analysts in a tough, competitive conference for them too.

You really think his made him quit the job because she couldn't take being around some Florida rednecks? $4.5 million thrown away because of something that small? He must really love his wife to do that.

He has to travel every week. So that means he was lying about being with his family. Something went down in Gainsville and it aint being said. Trust me on my OSU sources on his wife wanting out of there. Seriously.

He is traveling to analyze a game. He will have the entire off-season to spend with his family. Traveling to that game will take him away for the weekend. He can still be at home Monday-Thursday. Guess what, there are no recruiting trips, no trying to stop players from making dumb decisions, no trying to constantly replace staff members, etc.

Fellow Juke. Trust me on this. Meyer didn't leave Florida just because of his health and wanting to spend time with his family. His health was his wife wanting out of Gainsville. If the money is right. He will take the OSU job in 2012. I am getting more and more info as the day goes on from y fellow Buckeyes I know don't throw out stuff just to be saying it. It wasn't the daily stress of coaching. I will leave it at that.

He aint throwning money away. He will get paid again. LOL. And if you are married and your wife is unhappy.......then you are unhappy. LOL. Many have done it before. Meyer also leaves Florida with his winning still in tact. So he will be a hot commodity for a 5 million a year job. Which is what he will get if he takes the Ohio State job. Folks act like that Florida job was so great. They have not be a power as long as a Alabama. Spurrier got that program off their backsides and Meyer came in and won with Zook's players. He got out at the right time. Even if there were other issues why he rolled out. LOL. Johnnie Cole send help.

As I recall, in his second (and equally short-lived) retirement, he didn't mention health at all. He simply stated he wanted to spend time with his family, and then accepted a job that will require him to spend significant amounts of time (albeit not as much as coaching) away from his family less than 2 months later. He may or may not take the Ohio State job when it's offered, but he will be coaching again sooner rather than later.

Exactly. I am hoping he don't take the job. Not a Meyer fan. I rather see Fickell do well or bring in one of the Stoops brothers. Pellini is too emotional even though he is a good coach. But he might be the tough nut needed.

You honestly think Bo Pellini would leave another high profile program for OSU? You do know that they have moved to the Big Ten this coming season.

Work 2 days a week (on weekends, including travel) or work 7 days a week as a coach?
