SWAC Baseball Midweek May 10th-12th

They won't schedule TSU anymore. PWC's don't like competition against HBCU's lol.

For a school like Texas - the HBCUs simply do not have the RPI or W-L record that gets them excited - particularly in a state like Texas, where there are so many decent non-Big 12 teams to play that are worth a darn - see TCU, UH, Rice, TXST, Dallas Baptist and SHSU, amongst others.

Texas likely scheduled this game because TSU was available this weekend with so many schools in conference play and because many of these up-and-coming mid-major programs are asking for either a return game or a larger guarantee - two things TSU is certainly not asking for.

You know - if some of these teams on the 'at-large bubble' annually like Southeastern Louisiana could avoid playing the SWAC schools to help bolster their RPI even more - they would.

Problem is schools in the region are not necessarily willing to give them a home-and-home, despite the fact they are (or have) established a reputation. Of course in some cases, the SWAC schools have poor field conditions and that's a deterrent in bringing these games to fruition too.

You mean like Southern playing Tulane, UL-Lafayette, and LSU at Lee Hines?

LSU no longer will play at Lee Hines nor will Tulane...

You should know this, Cador refuses to play LSU again until they return to Lee-Hines, which they have decided not to do.

As usual, more Texas Terror soapbox negatives on everything SWAC related.:emlaugh:

Have you been to all of the SWAC schools? Do you have any data on field conditions at each SWAC school? If so, please present such data as evidence.

Another question is, why haven't SWAC players from visiting schools gotten injured due to "poor" field conditions at said SWAC school?
Fact of the matter is that you just can't seem to bring yourself to give SWAC schools credit for anything. For some odd, unknown and innate reason, you seem to gleefully post nonsense about the SWAC. Doesn't seem to matter if you have the facts to back up your statements or not. That doesn't seem to stop you from making them.

I agree that both TSU and Texas had an open date and scheduled a game. I will also agree that Texas would be more "up" if they were playing Texas A&M, likewise TSU would be more "up" if they were playing Prairie View A&M University. Where I disagree is that you have to comeout to play the game and clearly Texas wasn't ready to do that in game 1. This was only the fourth meetings between the two schools so there isn't much history there. That said, I will wait to say what Texas' paper has to say about game one-my guess is that they will give some respect to TSU for how they battled in game one and will say that they were lucky to get the win.

Got to call BS on this.....

SU field is fine. The only thing is with very heavy rains the outfield drains slow. Thats the only issue.

I'm not going to go into details regarding the field conditions... like many things that many of you are in the dark about, some better things are left unexplained.

I am not referring to how they came to play in the game... I am referring to scheduling. The 'big schools' in Texas typically have no reason to schedule the HBCUs. Rice rarely runs into TSU or PVAMU unless it is the postseason. You reference the few meetings between Texas and Texas Southern. It goes on and on...

Comes down to RPI and home-and-home situations. The UT-TxSo game was brought about by necessity more than the desire to play a team that has a low RPI. Just look around Texas and Texas A&M and Rice to see how many times they've played the HBCUs...

Is it because of field conditions or fear that they might lose?

LSU has been pretty clear on why they will not play at Southern... I am sure SUjagTILiDIE can produce some stories regarding the situation. He's been animated it in the past. On the bright side, they get a "LSU" from Eunice on their schedule. May be worth scheduling LSU-Alexandria or LSU-Shreveport since they are both four-year schools and actually count as a W-L - though does Cador count LSU-E on his W-L record?

It didnt have anything to do with field conditions lol. They said they had to have a certain amount of home games because of the 45 million dollar stadium. But then they turn around and played @ Nicholls this season  . They were discussing this on BR Sports talk radio Friday. Even some LSU fans were calling out Maneri.

He thinks HBCU's field are ragedy naturally just because it's a HBCU, point blank. Let's just put it out there. Dude probably hasn't been to one SWAC school in his damn life.

He came to Lee Hines. Think he worked for UNO baseball. But Lee Hines field is far from ragedy. The only problem like I said with heavy rains, the outfield holds water. Where Lee Hines sits it use to be a swamp there from what I hear.

Well i guess he feels it's ragedy then. How does UNO's look?

UT plays on an artificial turf field so anytime they leave home its different...

PV has played A&M and UT regularly the past few years while Rice and UH is spotty so I'm not sure what he's getting at....the RPI I can understand but Southland schools on the bubble like Lamar, SHSU, outside of Texas State will do home-and-home

but in basketball, the big schools won't do home and home regardless with anyone so the same can be applied to baseball......

Texas A&M used to come to SWAC schools.....that's a thing in the past now....

TT won't debate the field condition nor will he man up and admit that his inherent bias fueled his comment. Sad!!!!

LSU hits different corners of the state every year. Their OOC games in the past have included annual visits to New Orleans, Tulane, the neutral site game in Metairie - plus one more OOC game at a rotating Louisiana school. This year, it was Nicholls. They have gone to several other schools in the past, but pretty certain they will not be heading back to Southern. This Tuesday is last visit to New Orleans.

Been to several...

PVAMU has been on the Texas schedule the last two years. Would be curious if it has more to do with some of the mid-majors not as willing to just go to Austin, particularly with facility upgrades at TXST and SHSU.

Wonder how scheduling will change with TXST going to the WAC and the possibility of SHSU, Lamar to follow - also why does PV get on these schedules and TSU does not?

but in basketball, the big schools won't do home and home regardless with anyone so the same can be applied to baseball...... Texas A&M used to come to SWAC schools.....that's a thing in the past now....

TAMU is making some money off of hoops now!

Texas Tech has done home-and-home with several SLC schools and with budget concerns, the SLC schools are now getting more home-and-home games in basketball from regional schools (i.e. La Tech, Tulane) that would have never traveled their way in the past. Heck, Tulane went to Thibodaux last year!

TT won't debate the field condition nor will he man up and admit that his inherent bias fueled his comment. Sad!!!!

A bias? More like a reality check. Many of the SWAC schools could not compete on equal footing with some of the sub-Div I leagues from a facilities, competition and financial standpoint. I've talked about the Southland's dominance of the SWAC, but hey - there's one Div II league that is 6-1 against the SWAC this year in baseball.

Well T-Terror, the reality of yesterday was that those lowly RPI having Tigers gave those UT players(25-30 to our 15 to 18) and coaches(5 to our 2.5) fixs in that first game you had to be there to see the face and the changing up of player and positions, and the quite of the crowd from time to time it was beautiful and I am a proud Tigers this morning.....Now mind your on shy(stuff) and quit with the bashing sheesh!

You present an interesting issue.. why did Texas Southern only have 15 to 18 players? You can have as many as 35, correct? I understand a small travel party, but that seems risky with a doubleheader...???

Will give kudos to the TSU pitchers for their efforts in the opening game. They threw quite a few arms out there and UT had issues hitting them. What were those pitches clocked at?

Why not? You have no problem going into details about everything else SWAC-related. Why stop now? I know why, it's because you have no data to support your theory. If you do, please let us know which SWAC schools have sub-par field conditions or just admit you (T)errored.

+1. Valid.

A point like this would not be a data-related issue, considering many widely accepted points regarding the SWAC are not aired out in public, despite the agreement by many that they are accurate assessments.

I'm sure you understand what I am talking about since there are many points of contention that you guys banter around about it here that you'd never see a SWAC official publicly acknowledge... ;)
