The unhinged mother who drove her minivan off a Newburgh dock and into the Hudson River told her four children that she wasn't leaving this world alone.

"If I'm going to die, you're going to die with me," Lashanda Armstrong told the children before the vehicle sank to the bottom of the river just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, the only surviving child told authorities.

Armstrong's 10-year-old son, Lashaun, escaped the doomed family minivan - opening a power window and swimming to safety in the two minutes it took for the vehicle to sink.

But as he wriggled out of the window, his mother snatched his pants leg. "I made a mistake," she said before finally releasing the boy, the child told authorities.

After swimming to shore, the dripping-wet Lashaun made it to the road, where he was picked up by Meave Ryan, a good Samaritan who took the boy to a nearby firehouse.

"He was waving his hands, screaming 'Help me!'" said Ryan, 31. "He said, 'My mommy just drove the car into the water.'"

I don't think the kids were the problem in this situation. Although it's true that some folks may think she had too many kids to be so young, it seems that she was distraught over her husband cheating on her.

I'm thinking we may need to look at the importance we place on infidelity in America. European attitudes toward "cheating" are much different than ours. They don't tend to get all upset, immediately break up with their partner or kill themselves over somebody getting some action on the side.

I think we have emotionalized infidelity too much. I'm not suggesting that we should accept it, but I'm wondering if a change in how we respond would be helpful to our mental well being ... and in this case ... physical well being. :noidea:

The New York Post is reporting that her friends are saying the reason why she committed suicide because, the deadbeat father of her three younger children would not provide her love and money they desperately needed and her and children were consistently being let down by him.

The suicidal mom who drove her family van into the Hudson River posted a terrifying Facebook warning just 30 minutes before killing herself and her three children.

"I'm so sorry everyone forgive me please for what I'm gonna do.... This Is It!!!!" Lashanda Armstrong wrote from her Blackberry shortly before the Tuesday night tragedy.

The chilling account appeared on MidHudsonNews.com, which gained access to the dead woman's Facebook page. Armstrong's friends filled the page with prayers and wishes for peace after her death.

The message appeared at 7:13 p.m., and Armstrong and her kids were gone from her Newburgh apartment when police arrived to probe a domestic dispute at 7:43 p.m., the web site reported.

SUJagFan: What is the difference in European's attitude toward cheating than black folk? Europeans kill themselves or their spouses all the time about infidelity, so where did you get that grand idea from?

Getting back to the young woman and her children. This is another sad case of a person being pushed over the top by too much stress and life's problems. She just did not see any way out of a bad situation. I am not making excuses about what she did, but men really need to step up to the plate when it comes to their kids and family. Women should not always have to bear the burden of raising children, working, and trying to juggle school and everything else that comes their way. We have to do better as a people.

Every one should have a psychological evaluation on a regular basis! I said that all the time when I was younger and still hold tru to today. I still the civil rights era mishaps, mainly whites, for the mindset of most poeple of today and then when you watch certain shows it only solidifies what a lot of people's thinking was all along!
