Yes, but Gram can play. Their weakness is pitching depth, but they have 3 quality starters. SU and Gram plays excellent defense. Gram probably has the best position player in the SWAC in Wolf. SU has depth on top of depth on its pitching staff and that will be huge in the tournament. If Gram gets in the losers bracket that might be trouble for them, as they will have to rely of someone else besides their 3 starters. I wll say this, if every team plays to the best of their ability SU would win. But that doesnt always happen, thats why they play the games. But if I had to make a educated guess I would say SU and then Gram as favorites for the tournament.

McGriff, Southern rally to gain split

Southern baseball coach Roger Cador said his third baseman, Cameron McGriff, had been so solid on defense that he couldn’t afford to keep McGriff out of the starting lineup.

Even though McGriff had struggled at the plate. A lot.

When Saturday’s doubleheader against Grambling began, McGriff had a .160 batting average.

By the bottom of the 10th inning of the second game, when he stepped to the plate with one out and teammate Kevin Williams on first base, McGriff’s season average had dropped to .125. He was 0-for-7 on the day.

“I’d been taking bad swings for a long time,” he said.

Somehow, however, McGriff came through when the Jaguars absolutely needed him to.

McGriff laced a triple down the right-field line, easily scoring Williams and giving Southern a 9-8 win in the second game of its doubleheader with Grambling.

The Jaguars lost the first game 5-4 after the Tigers escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth.

“We’ll take the split. You have to take it,” Cador said. “We could’ve easily lost two, but we could’ve easily won two.”

Good, bad and odd from SU's doubleheader

Saturday’s doubleheader at Lee-Hines Field included one of the warmest days this spring (at one point, the temperature climbed to 91 degrees) and certainly one of the longest in recent memory (7 hours, 11 minutes passed between the first pitch and the final play).

Ultimately, Southern and Grambling split the doubleheader, and the Jaguars maintained their two-game lead in the Western Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The crowds for Throw Back Weekend were great(684 and 678), would have been more if not for spring fest and the softball game going on at the same time. There were 20 plus RV's(parked in the RV lot) on campus and folks tailgating :) everywhere by Lee Hines.

Because I can probably bet my life on it that the music was edited... I thought it was a given that if you are hearing hip hop at every major pro sporting event (even NASCAR... yep 1-2 drivers like Dale Earnhardt Jr. do listen to hip hop) as well as a lot of college events, you can guarantee it's gonna be radio edited...

Yep Very sad but True what its lining up to be we going to have to sweep a Alcorn or Valley which is very possible but seems like this team wants to do it the hard way good thing we at home rest of the year other then going to AAMU

I'll give a pass to the team and coach right now due to the fact that the team is quite young and they're still gaining much needed experience.

Also at the high school age. I do the PA, music & stats for my son's high school and most of the walk up songs the players gave me are hip-hop songs.

I have to make sure what I play is radio edit (clean) and even some of those don't get played because of the content.
