NCAA Championship Game

They should just hold the title vacant....

:lmao:

Next year nobody will remember this game. Let's just hope whoever sings 'One Shining Moment' nails the damn thing. I'm pissed off I wasted 3 hours of my life watching this crap.

Sign of the state of college ("amateur") athletics: The national champion in football is under NCAA investigation and the national champion in basketball is on probation.

Butler shot 18%. I can go get a team from the local YMCA and they will shoot better then that.

I have the utmost respect for what Butler has done the last two years. Like I said in the other thread, it's a pretty short list of teams that have played in back-to-back title games. But they, along with UConn, were just horrible tonight, UConn just happen to be slightly less horrible. If one team, and it doesn't matter which one, would have just played decently, it would've won by 30.

How many minutes into the game do you think the NCAA started calling David Stern begging him to bump the age limit to 21?

See, I was hoping that folks didn't use this game to demonize one-and-done players. Just a week earlier Butler was the team that did everything right and was coached well.

Now that the team couldn't hit the broad side of barn in the NCAA championship game folks want to raise the age limit. LOL!

I think the NCAA and NBA have to make the collegiate experience more lucrative for the athletes. Shaka Smart got a new 8-year deal today for the work his players did in the tournament. Same with Matt Painter.

What salary increases do those student-athletes receive? (legally of course)

Going beyond what was clearly a joke, I don't see where I demonized anybody, and I called for the age limit to be raised long before tonight's assassination of basketball. If you also recall, I said the entire system needs to be completely overhauled, which is triply true considering that UConn a) is currently on probation and b) doesn't even attempt to graduate its players, although in that regard they are not hardly alone.

Oh, I didn't mean you were demonizing one and done players. I understood what you were saying. I was thinking about a columnist or analyst railing on the age limit thing like Knight, Phelps and Vitale did last year after the NC game.

Yeah, that was pretty ugly to watch. Butler relies too much on jumpshots and 3's to win their games. When they have a cold shooting night, they struggle because they can't execute a good half-court set against larger and faster teams. You saw how many shots were blocked and altered by UCONN? It is crazy how neither team couldn't shoot worth anything.

The whole Butler craze is over, next year, the power teams will return with schools like Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, and UCLA filled with a lot of young, blossoming talent.

That's why I say the entire system needs to be retooled. The NCAA has made to where they're begging players to leave early and/or take money on the side.

I think Panther 88's head exploded watching the well-coached-four-passes-before-you-shoot-they-play-the-game-the-right-way Butler squad break the NCAA record for worst shooting percentage in a Final Four game.

Oh, I agree with you that system needed to be overhauled. I just don't think the NCAA has the civility to do it.

I can't believe what i'm reading!!! Some of you guys are giving this mess a pass! Good Defense???? GTFOOH! If it was two SWAC teams you'd be all over this site with smack! This was worse then any SWAC game I've ever seen! I'll go even farther to say the SWAC would have played better!!! I guess it was good defense and other things you guys mentioned when other SWAC games were on TV earlier in the season!

Hypocrites!!!:argue::smash::o:tdown:

Phil, they dont understand/know basketball. When players miss 3-4 open shots right under the basket, it was good defense. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PsychoJag thinks this was the best defensive game ever played.

It's going to happen. They have been talking about this for a week. All the talking heads were saying the NCAA and NBA need to get together. The NBA has their own CBA coming up. Watch how those veteran players who came out early themselves throw the cats who have yet to come out under the bus so they can get a bigger piece of the pie and not be replaced by some kid with Potential. LOL.

They have to convince the NBA to do it. The NCAA has no control. But they shole can lobby the NBA owners and David Stern. The NBA is already claiming they are losing big money with alot of teams. Should be interesting when that NBA contract with the Union expires.

CBS calls an ugly game what it is

An old adage got turned on its head in Monday night’s NCAA title game: From a TV standpoint, it was a shame somebody had to win.

Announcers normally are taught to make the game they’re calling sound exciting. That went out the window early in the second half. Hype sailed away, and a refreshing gust of honesty came blowing in.

“Unparalleled ineptitude,” CBS analyst Clark Kellogg said of Butler’s dismal shooting.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Steve Kerr echoed.

Rest story

Faced with an ugly football-score-type game — what Anthony called “the worst half of basketball ever seen in a national championship game” — they called the action for what it was. Players missed shots. The game stank.

However the rims were miked, the sound of balls caroming off them might have been the loudest ever heard in a basketball telecast, which seemed to magnify the “Clang! Clang! Clang!” of errant shots.

LOL @ good defensive game
