Alabama A&M's Pettaway out after 25 years.

JACK DOSS??

Whoa now! I like the sound of that! My only question is, can he coach at this level?

We know how it is bringing in a coach who isn't a true D-1 coach. :read:

Wrong question... the question is can he recruit at this level. Watching Marriucci at UK let's me know it's not about Xs and Os at D-1. Schemes don't change very much from one level to the next. The thing that makes a difference is whether the coach can sell the program.

Well he did a good job recruiting at Butler LOL.... somehow got Ralph Sampson to move his son from Ga to Huntsville..... also he coached Buck Johnson in high school.... Buck Johnson sends players to Huntsville also.

No race wouldn't be a factor. Coach Doss is a great coach and the Hsv community embraces him like one of our own...and why would the alumni not embrace him? we have always had white coaches in our Athletic program..

Like Dahill said coach Doss has won 7 state tities at a high school in the middle of the projects with all black players ..so again race is a non factor and he should be considered for the job!

Congrats to Coach Pettaway on a great coaching career. When we get a new arena rest assured your name will be all over it! Job Well done!

Speaking of naming things after people, isn't it high time that we've named SOMETHING after Ike Rooks??

the pressbox is named after Ike Rooks.

on Doss... he has only coached at inner city Black schools.. he was the first white coach at Hayes High in Birmingham, where he coached Buck Johnson and won a state title and Butler is in the middle of 3 different projects and Terry Heights (probably the worst neighborhood in HSV)... I couldnt see him coaching white boys.

A&M has always had non-blacks coaching and working for them in athletics consistently so that's not a surprise....they've been pretty diverse in that arena

Would race be a factor in his support from the alumni/community?

Actually, I think that would help market the team to the rest of the community including the expanded Redstone Arsenal. I always wonder why we didn't try to incorporate a NASA and military personnel more with athletics. I know we partner with them with academics and research, but we need some of them government workers spending their entertainment dollars on the Hill.

I think u may see him apply for the Southern job after Spivery leaves/resigns- Dahill

Don't think he'll be getting that one either. Rumor has it that Jobe and Avery Johnson-both consultants, are in the mix as a far as a replacement at Southern. Avery,
having a little more pull than Jobe, is favoring someone he played with at Southern who is currently overseas coaching somewhere.

Having big success on the high school level doesn't necessarily translate to the same on the Collegiate level. S.U. had a football coach from St. Augustine-N.O. that won multiple state championships in Louisiana's highest classification. If you know anything about Louisiana High School football, it is no joke. He could not win 1 SWAC title.......

man Jobe old ass aint coaching no more.... He was at a couple of AAMU games this past year and even co hosted the Bulldog review show with Pettaway...he looked like he had a hard time walking. Also you seriously think Avery Johnson is going from a NBA coach to a SWAC coach. He makes hella more money being an anylist for the NBA than he would coaching.

You need to re-read that post again lol. Oldgymlgndnd said Avery and Jobe were consulting with SU to find a new coach. Now if thats true or not, I dont know.

I can also tell you no way SU would hire Pettaway.

gotcha.... I saw Jobe about 3 times this basketball season... he was a guest coach one game and cohost for the review show another game.

Jobe also came to the SU/PV game @ SU. However he got the days mixed up as he thought SU was playing tSU, as he was there to check out some of tSU's players.

The Press Box at Louis Crews is NOT named in honor of, or after anyone. The Broadcast room on the A&M (home) end of the Press Box is named The Ike Rooks Broadcast Booth.

excuse me the Broadcast room inside the press box...sorry for not being too in depth.

Your statement had nothing to do with a lack of depth.........instead was just blatenly false. The Press Box (as of this date) has not been named for anyone. The Broadcast Booth; one (1) room on the south end of the PB (as I stated in a previous post) has The Ike Broadcast Booth on the door. Factoid: The Board of T's would not/did not approve the naming of this room for Ike........Jim Martin and B. Austin put the lettering up on their own in an informal recognition..........If I remember correctly there is something in the State of AL law about naming State buildings/facilities for individuals who are still living????

unless that law is brand new.... Crews Stadium was named after Louis Crews and he was still living, Dawson Building was named after James Dawson and he was still living.... same thing with Joe Reed and the Acadome. The Engineering Building was just named after Dr. Bond and he cut the ribbon for it.

I believe it is the broadcast room named after Ike. The entire pressbox was the recommendation, but some folks were against it and recommended the broadcast room.
