Beginning this fall, Southern University’s athletic department will up the ante in the classroom, forcing its incoming freshmen to meet higher admission standards than the rest of the students on campus.

The department has bought a new computer system to track athletes’ academic progress and notify coaches if their players are slipping.

But I will say this :tup: to the tracking system. That should be enough to get the waiver. IMO (money was invested)
The coach(s) can't lie and say they didn't know Johnny was slipping in biology etc
 
Higher academic standards are a great start. Consideration must also be given to recruiting budgets, as the pool of athletes has gotten smaller to some degree.

I wonder if this bit of news will tranlate to more wins in football and basketball. So far, both sports aren't being effected much on the field.
