Democrats have a history of forgiving former Klansmen. Senator Robert Byrd (Dem) said the N word on live t.v. and he got a pass because he had a (D) by his name. As a matter of fact, the Klan was founded by the Democratic party. BTW, go to any prison and ask 99% of the inmates what their political party is, and they will say hands down Democrat. I remember in high school during History class that the Republicans were the good party until about the mid.-to-late 1800's and believe it or not, even though they couldn't vote, that was the party of choice for most Blacks but it never stated why they started going over to the Dem. Party, but , as I found out on the Mississippi Public Broadcasting channel that a particular Republican party member was running for office (of the presidency) and he had a large black turnout so much that would have a had a landslide victory along with white supporters. The problem came when the Rep. candidate fail, AND I MEAN FLAT OUT, did not keep his promises that he said that he would and didn't keep his promise of making better sanitation and health agendas dealing with Negros, as matter of fact he never reached out to them after that and almost every Negro in that time frame went to the Dem. Party (I guess this was the last straw for Blacks). Also during that time frame a lot of Whites (gov't officials mainly) began disassociating themselves from blacks because they saw themselves as highly privileged and thought they would be better off not dealing with them and the commentary stated that their ideas began to switch and Blacks have been mostly democratic every since :nod:.

lol well.... Can't speak for other states but historically speaking of Tx, it was indeed the kkk led democrats who wreaked the most havoc. The repubs of olden post-1870s were the trendsetters here. There would've been no PVAMU and subsequently sTu if those folx didn't work in conjunction w/ the newly freed slaves, who also were repubs, representing @ the yrly state conventions. It was the democrats here who were against the notion of public education for ALL in this state back in the day. Blacks flocked to the Democratic party when John F. Kennedy bailed MLK out of jail. Most black folk been sheep ever since..

We had a high school named after Nicholls but had the school name changed back in 95 I believe...to Fredrick Douglass....

He's was from Thibodaux where is is buried... The University out there is named after him...

First of all I am not a Democrat okay. :lol: I voted for Republicans, Just like I voted for Dems and Independents that fit the needs of me and those I care about. :spin: I just have enough sense to read between the lines of southern good ole boys.
 
Funny the same Repub party who opened HBCU's wanna close them. The same Dems who didn't wanna open HBCU's are fighting to keep them open. A lie doesn't care who tells it, but that lie will keep on getting told.
