Johnny Lee Clary was ordained a minister in the 6 million-member Church of God in Christ (COGIC) on Saturday during a service led by Bishop George McKinney, pastor of St. Stephen’s Cathedral Church of God in Christ in San Diego and a member of COGIC’s 12-member general board.

Clary, who is based in Oklahoma, will serve as an evangelist under McKinney’s oversight, and his ministry will emphasize racial reconciliation.

I understand the skepticism and admit that I was skeptical when I first came across this story.

Then I'm reminded of Saul on the road to Damascus. A person who killed Christians became the Apostle Paul. The Chief Apostle who brought the gospel to the Gentiles.

It is said that God works in mysterious ways.

1 Samuel 16:7 says the "men looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart". Only God knows if his heart has truly changed. If he has, then God has a history of using people like him for His purposes.

But, a healthy dose of skepticism is understandable. :lol:

Nice statement you made there SU, but if his heart isn't right then I would have to ask myself "How much money are we paying this man to give the money from the church back into the KKK's pockets under the table? Remember that the Klan also carried bibles and a cross with fire on it. ??????????????????????????????

No doubt.

Like I said, I understand people may consider that move to be questionable. A lot of red flags go up upon just hearing about this story.

My point is simply that, while it is seemingly unfathomable and unlikely, it's possible that this guy can be sincere. All people who come to Christ have been redeemed from something. Some things we may judge as more evil than others, but we've all fallen short of the grace of God. Since that's true, who are we to determine who is worthy and who is not?

Of course, we should be cautious and watch this man's deeds. However, we also need to remember that God said "for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great." Luke 9:48 KJV God has a tendency of choosing the most unlikely people to do the the greatest work. He chose a guy, Moses, who couldn't speak well to lead his people out of bondage in Egypt. A little shepherd boy, David, slayed Goliath and became a great king. At the very last moment, on the cross, a thief asks Jesus to remember him when he comes into his kingdom and gets the response "you shall be with me in paradise". Choosing, deliverance and redemption. Of the most unlikely. It's possible.

I first remember this story from a little more than a year ago. I have friends at St. Stephen's who know the guy. I have the privilege of knowing Dr. McKinney as an academecian, a businessman, a researcher, a bishop, and one of the greatest leaders in the area of racial reconciliation in the world. Believe me when I tell you that all of the background work (including FBI surveillance) has been done in this case.
 
I do it like employers do people that have completed their time in the penial system. Nothing is forgotten.

I think what big momma was saying was that it's unnatural for certain things to occur. Someone <b>naturally</b> hating a certain faction of folk suddenly turning coattail and now wanting to love all up on them? :emlaugh: That's quite, unnatural. If it occurs honestly, that would be the day that the lamb really can dwell in the midst of a wolf w/out fear of being eaten. But of course we know factually that day will never ever occur because it's unnatural for something like that to occur. :read:

At any rate. The line of forgiveness is not for us (on this board) to see. It's obvious, some of us in here don't even look it's direction. All you can do is hope those are not idiots who are bestowing him his rank.

Democrats have a history of forgiving former Klansmen. Senator Robert Byrd (Dem) said the N word on live t.v. and he got a pass because he had a (D) by his name. As a matter of fact, the Klan was founded by the Democratic party. BTW, go to any prison and ask 99% of the inmates what their political party is, and they will say hands down Democrat.
