Phil Jackson: No games on Christmas

"I don't think anybody should play on Christmas Day,'' Jackson said. "Soccer teams don't play this time of year... I agree (with the NHL also not playing). I don't understand it. ... You just have to keep reminding (the NBA) that this is a special day.'

"Now, I see they have like six games (actually, five) on Christmas. It's like Christian holidays don't mean anything to (the NBA) anymore. You just go out and play and entertain (on) TV. It's really weird.''

Can't say I blame Phil.

Phil Jackson probably has not spent a Christmas at home since the year before he started coaching Micheal Jordan and the Bulls.

Yeah, back in the day though it was just a double header... I think that just like the NFL on Thanksgiving the NBA has went overboard. Two games max on each day.

I bet on any given day they (NBA commisioners and etc.) they be in the office salivating over basketball and I bet you almost anything that on Christmas that they used to sit back dream of watching a lot of basketball while their family is celebrating Christmas. Me Personally I could care less about Christmas from 10:00 p.m. Christmas Eve to 10:00 p.m. Christmas Night!

It's sad that every single Thursday night in the NBA has less games played than Christmas Day does. When there was two Christmas Day games every year, it was an honour for teams to be chosen. Now, it's a third of the league playing on Christmas Day.

I want the Blue/Grey Game and the Aloha Bowl back on Christmas Day, personally....

mayne f that, he's making millions of dollars, what about the navy and army folks who have to work on Xmas day, hell what about the regular joe who works at Walmart, they have to work, I'd be glad to work on any day if I was to make the kind of money he makes, if he dont like it, his azz can retire, point blank, u signed up for this,
Hell its alot of folks in America that works on Xmas day

I feel what Phil is saying. Hell i listen to the radio and they rarely even acknowledge Christmas anymore. All you hear is Whip My Damn Hair or Nicki Minaj

Because Phil Jackson gets paid a handsome salary he shouldn't demand not to work on Christmas so he could spend time with his family like most of Americans?

People just want people to entertain them and don't care about nothing else. That's how selfish America has become.

When I was in college, I felt kinda sorry for the basketball players who had to travel somewhere and play games around Thanksgiving. I felt the same way about college football players who had to play meaningless bowl games on Christmas. That is time when everyone wants to be with their familes. To be honest I wouldn't mind if there wasn't any games on Christmas or Thanksgiving.

what about other folks that have to work on xmas, do u think they should be off also?

My sentiments exactly. I'm sure someone will bring up about regular people working on Christmas but the situation is totally different. They aren't working for amusement and entertainment they are working as much as they can to survive not for entertainment. Hell the NBA players won't lose much money if they didn't have to play on Christmas but most regular people need to work as much as they can, especially in these days and times.

Of course I do. If Christmas is a religious holiday, why is anyone doing anything that would deter from observing it in a respectful manner?

That's why I respect Sean Green who played for a number of MLB teams in his career. He told teams upfront that he wasn't going to play on Yom Kippur no matter what, even if it the holiday fell during the playoffs. He chose his relationship with God over want man.
