HBCU's in FCS Playoffs

No offense to SCState, but I have to wonder how much the "politics" of them voicing their preference for the Playoffs of the FCS over the Legacy Bowl entered into their selection. Not putting their worthiness into question, but looking at their non-conference games and the low regard voiced by some of the AGS folk concerning the MEAC makes me wonder as to the motive.

Great observation.

go back to 7 conference games. schedule the teams that are regional and national powers in FCS and beat them.

According to SCSU and FAMU posters, they have tried to schedule those national powers but, apparently, they are too scared to schedule a home-and-home with FAMU and SCSU.

PV simply did not deserve a bid.

1. They got drubbed by Grambling
2. Only had 10 games
3. Only played a sad D2

They never stood a chance. One more 1-AA team and a close loss to grambling and 4 extra teams in the playoffs would have improved their chances.

So PV's only loss was to the conference champion, played a sorry D2 school yet they didn't deserve a bid? Sounds a lot like this year's SCSU team.

FCS Playoff Expansion:

It went from 16 teams and 8 automatic bids the last couple of years (including 2008) and 20 teams and 10 automatic bids in 2010.

meac newbie Savannah State was able to get Georgia Southern on their schedule this year. Bama State was supposed to have a home and home with Jacksonville State recently. They did play bama state's home game but the one for j'ville state was lost after they got caught spying on bama state practices. even if you have to go to them for one game, go beat that butt and talk smack in the news about how they were right to be afraid to come to you because it'd be 2x worse than what happened at their place.

So in other words, FAMU and SCSU folks are lying about not being to schedule FCS PWCs.

That's a fvcking lie. :retard:

PV played an all-FCS schedule + 1 D-II (a strongly ranked Morehouse College team) for the first time. We went 9-1 w/ the sole loss to FCS Grambling State. That was also the same year we were defacto SWAC Champions, by also skull dragging eventual SWAC Champion JSU @ Blackshear Stadium.

Also, the reason PV was never considered was because we were still in the running for SWAC West championsip IF and only IF SU had beaten Grambling State in the BC giving us the deal w/ the coin flip since all 3 would've had the exact same # of losses. So, there was no consideration for PV since we were still in contention for the SWAC West crown and eventual pending SCG.

I'm not calling anyone a liar, but do they have a certain set of conditions that they will only play with. yes, sure of that. play them, beat them, then you can demand certain things happen, until then where sitting in the back seat on the hump.

question, is all swac schools prohibited from the playoffs?
i saw a few 4 lose teams that got at large bids... i guess if they would have played se louisiana instead of delta state, we could make a argument

NO, the only schools that are not considered are those schools that play the first weekend that the playoffs start or is in contention for the SCG.

The NCAA will never give the SWAC another bid. We said, "Fugg your playoffs" a long time ago. If PV couldn't get in back in 2008, none of us are going to get a bid.

The Swac office kept PV from being considered that year.

PV didn't get in in 2008 because they played only a sorry D2 school like Lincoln or somebody and only had 10 games. There were also only 16 bids back then. PV kept themselves out of the playoffs with their schedule so that is a bad example to use. Had they played two decent OOC team and won at least one of them, they might have got in with a 9-2 record. The SWAC can get in but we have to do ALL the right thngs. The 7 schools who currently qualify for the playoffs should definitely schedule accordingly...and WIN! Had JSU and AlaState both beat TxSo this year, I don't think JSU's chances would have been bad.

We see you still don't know jackshit about the Swac, the playoffs and what happened with PV in 08

Simple. They respect SCSUs program more than PVAM

That had nothing to do with it in 08

Thank you P for explaining it to them.

Remember the NCAA likes to do things in regions to keep cost down and PV had a chance since that year TxState was getting in and there was no other school close to the region.

You're mistaken. Your OOC schedule was Texas College, Morehouse, and Valley (OOC game). You didn't play JSU that season, either. Also, Grambling won the SWAC that year, not JSU.

I don't think the conference as a whole is eligible for the FCS playoffs simply because we don't know who's going to be playing in the SCG. If I'm not mistaken, the NCAA ruled that the SWAC as a conference was ineligible when we came up with this SWAC Championship game mess.
Speaking of which, when will they get rid of the damn SCG?

Not true. If a team finishes its season before the 1st round of the playoffs, they could be selected.

1, 2, and 3 are still correct. I do recall that you were in the running for the SWAC WEST but you were still too sorry to go.

As for the MEACs scheduling issues. 1.) Inept ADs 2.) too many 1-A vs 1-AA matchups.

I don't think teams are afraid to play them. Teams like playing HBCUs for the gate.

SCSU's coach made that comment.

Also, it's hard to schedule teams OOC due to the amount of conference games we have to play. We're also NOT going to give up playing Tennessee State, we still wanna put SU, GSU, ASU, or GSU on the schedule, and we still have money games to play...we need the MEAC to open ouir scheduling up.

You shole right.
I been saying it for years.

This is what kills me about the mentality in this conference. All these years the powers that be in this conference and most of the supporters have been saying FUGG the Playoffs, the Hell with the playoffs, etc. Now that it is clear we are never going to get another bid, now people want to start talking about "at-large bids" for teams in this conference. Fat/Zero chance.

When they started talking about JSU had a shot at an at-large bid, I damm near hit the floor laughing. I just don't see how SWAC supporters can't understand we ain't never going again, (unless drastic changes are made), when our conference and then our dumb azz commish said publically NO about the playoffs as recently as this past August for all to hear. How in the heck do anybody think the SWAC is going to even get a look from the playoff committee.

We got the The Turkey Day Classic, the BC, and the SCG played during the 1st week of the playoffs and play the SCG, before next year, the same day as the FCS championship..

People wanted it and now they got it with no playoff's in sight.
Write that down in permanant marker and have the surface laminated.
Ya'll better be happy playing those three games listed because those are the only games the SWAC will end the season on.

Man screw the MEAC. all they do is down rate the SWAC. How can you support someone who always be-little you? I can't do it.

Man.
Let the MEAC be the MEAC.
They just go on bad info about the strength of their conference members. Only 3 teams have winning records and one of them, HAMPTON, ain't no world beater.

We were just not good enough to go this year but it could happen. It's a long shot but we will get a team in from time to time. You need the right formula for it to happen which hurts our odds. Right now, our wildcard teams were Grambling and JSU. Gram could not go and JSU simply lost too many games. The only way for the SWAC to get a team in is for for there to be two pretty good teams one one side of the bracket. For example, even if the MEAC had a championship game(North-South set-up) denying BCU from going to the playoffs, SCState still would have been in the South division of the MEAC and got a playoff bid. The difference in us and them is that their second place division team would have been 9-2 and the champ 10-1.

It's nothing personal with me and MEAC. It's just that I don't care about the playoffs so I don't care about cheering for ANY of those teams.

I like the idea of JSU going to the playoffs but I don't support the playoffs as a first option. I want "us" to support ourselves and promote the good of BCF. Even this year, FAMU is sitting at home because of what I call self-hate. I would love for the #2 team in the EAST or WEST to play the next team from the MEAC who did not get in the playoffs in the Heritage/Legacy Bowl. This year, we would have had Grambling vs FAMU. (Last year too, I think) I think we rob ourselves and our kids by thinking that we only have to follow the set model. People would call it a meaningless bowl game between 8-3 and 9-2 teams when the country is gearing up to watch 6-6 teams in bowl games.
