Doesn't even matter, same azz-kickings will and would continue to be given by Jukebox, Stevie Wonder could be directing and he'll receive the same azz kicking when he faces the Jukebox

so again as stated "Who Cares"

Re: Who will be JSU's Next Director of Bands?

Since the Director of Bands DOES NOT have to be the Director of the Boom, I say that someone should fund my advanced degrees so I can get my PhD and then I will be Director of Bands!!!!

you don't want that depressing job.. why you think I turned them down...

Re: Who will be JSU's Next Director of Bands?

If you bring back the SIVAD, Haughton and Taylor caliber arrangements, the swing-and-sway, precision and showmanship, you have my vote!

That would be the starting point. We will get better from there.

While I would lead in restoring these things and ensuring the success of the Boom, I would appoint someone else as its director. I want the wind ensemble on the concert stage and to work the chamber programs. I want someone at the Midwest Clinic every year or someone from their selection committee to consistently tell me that we cannot monopolize the music program there.

Did their current band director quit?

No. The band has had six directors of bands. They are Kermit Holly, Sr.(1940-1947), William W. Davis (1948-1971), Harold Haughton (1971-1984), Dowell Taylor (1984-1992), Dr. Lewis Liddell, Sr. (1992-2009), and Renardo Murray, Interim Director of Bands (2009-Present).

Re: Who will be JSU's Next Director of Bands?

Jackson State's next Band Director should be a JSU alumnus!

Re: Who will be JSU's Next Director of Bands?

Isn't that what alumni what, an alumnus?

Having an alumnus as Director Of Bands is a nice touch IF AND ONLY IF he/she is the best candidate for the job.
  1. Doctorate - just gotta have it.
  2. Reach - peer contacts from coast to coast
  3. Educator - gotta be able to teach
  4. Administrator - gotta have vision and the ability to delegate
  5. Teachable - gotta be able to grow personally
  6. Visionary - without vision, we die; large ensembles, jazz, chamber, marching, soloists, conductors, commercial music, and the development of the advanced degree program.
  7. Excellence - must be able to command it of staff and students
  8. Communicator - must have the werewithal to articulate and elucidate with everyone from the university president to the custodial staff
  9. Mentor - must be able to groom his/her replacement
