SO, you all are saying that I can not get up and dance for the whole 3rd quarter to "The Show"?

Bernie-Mac1.jpg

That's some bull!

Sog...I read the rule..and understand it clearly...I don't need you to explain and get all bent out of shape..lol. I just think it is a b.s. rule..and I think it needs to be changed.

I'm sure folk understood the rule .."black folk sit at the back of the bus"...and I'm sure plenty of people felt that rule was bullshyt and needed to be changed...

That rule makes no sense unless you tell the crowd to stfu like they are at a golf tournament or tennis match....

You are posting off of emotions and not common sense and facts...the others just want to sound "popular"....

Facts states...crowd noise levels gets up to 127 decibels...while a band the size of Duke Univ. Gets up to a lil over 100 decibels...

I operate off of facts and common sense....if you ain't telling the crowd to stfu...leave the fn bands alone...

And like I said earlier....i'm still waiting on the NCAA to kill all those other artifical noises from other schools out the SWAC.....you think those schools are going to GAF what the NCAA rules state? fugg no....

i'm using that statement bcuz according to NCAA rule...bands = artifical noise and thats illegal....

SWAC bands helps make the game atmosphere that much better....

take a look @ this clip...

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/thQFw4ZxszE?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/thQFw4ZxszE?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

realize both bands are breaking the rules here....BUT, look how exciting the game is bcuz they were playing...

It goes back to us saying that the band is there to help the team. Not hurt it. You just provided evidence that they think that they are the main attraction...

Why is it so hard not to play in between plays?

*Where's that yawning smiley?* Call me when the SWAC office suspend a band for playing.. Until then who cares.

and you missed the point of that clip.....this is not about SWAC bands is SWAC football....thats ignorant

but SWAC bands add to the atmosphere of the overall SWAC Experience....and if they had followed that BS rule, it would've been silent...

and speaking of helping the team...defense/Fired up Jstate is almost non-existent now when compared to the games where those same rules weren't enforced...

Well, that's not going to happen. The SWAC office would be burnt down to the ground if he did that. And until then, I will be dancing all 3rd quarter to "The Show"! Now turn to the right! :happydance: Now turn to the back! :happydance: Now turn to the left! :happydance:

The crowd can cheer. We as black people depend on the band for too much. We are too lazy and clueless. We have crowds and cheerleaders at game that don't understand the game. Let's be honest here. The band is an accessory to the game. Not the main event...

It just takes more than a split second to cut a song off.....and if there are only 2 more measures in the song....you can bet they are going to finish it.
This is where you are wrong. It takes less than a split second to cut off a song. You highlight what I mean by arrogance cause here is where the band thinks they are more important than the team. If you take your lips off the FN horn, it will stop making noise in less than a split second. But no....you cant stop your precious song before the ending even though your QB is right under you trying to call out cadence. OOOHHH no, playing "My Baby Daddy" for the 2 millionth time is much more important than what the QB is trying to say RIGHT BELOW YOU, in the FN Astrodome, with the accustics and the sound bouncing off the walls. Them damn fools arent even courteous enough to quiet down just a little....cause it takes more than a split second to finish a song, and it has to be finished regardless right?

Watch this NT...Im right in the middle of a sentence. If I take my fingers off the keyboard it will stop typing in less than a.....

Still funny and true :lmao:

Don't take my word for it...research yourself and come back and tell me what's louder .."crowd noise" or a band....after you do that....then tell why aren't we asking the crowd to only make noise..by screaming..stumping on bleachers...blowing those annoying arse plastic horns...to only make their noise in between plays....

That's like if you at home trying to study...and one brother is playing his music in one room and the other is in his room with 8 of his friends talking to the top of their lungs..

Wouldn't you tell them all to stfu and turn that music down? Or would make sense to just target one of your brothers?
Just sayn'

The crowd cheers. That's why they aren't asked to STFU. Do you go to games to cheer for your team? People used their hard earned money to pay to go to games and cheer for their team...

Because the crowd is not subject to the rules of the NCAA.

During the JSU vs SU game it was announced that the bands cant play period when the ball is in motion and that meant on kickoffs as well.

This was the one I was having a hard time with while listening to the SU/JSt. game. I was wondering why SU was getting called out so often....cuz, if I remember, they only got called out during a kickoff. For as long as I remember...that rule has always been flexible during kickoffs. Even for HBCU's. Cuz, I know I HAVE seen plenty of PWC's still playing during the kickoff. So, with that...I didn't understand the warnings.

But, with the rest, Im with the NCAA and SOG on this one. Reform your music to being quick hitters and watch the damn game. It's not hard. Perhaps, folks need to understand that our bands were horrible when it came to this rule...and, now this ain't nothing but the NCAA/SWAC/MEAC tightening up on the rule, again, over the last few years.

Because the crowd is not subject to the rules of the NCAA.

What part of "I don't agree with the rule and I think it needs to be changed\modified" you don't get?..lol

Freeze...yeah we pay our hard earned money to root for our team....those folk pay hard earn money to attend golf tournaments and tennis matches too...

This rule has nothing to do with paying your money to cheer...its the exact oppisite..this rule is about noise being made because the offense can't hear...

Do you watch the NFL or BCS football where the opposing offenses or wasting time outs because of cwod noise?

Yes. I do watch all levels of football. I even coach Pop Warner.

Let me break it down for you. The QB calls a timeout because they are the visitors and can't get the snap off due to crowd noise. That is encouraged because they want their home team to win. The crowd can't get penalized because it is natural noise and are cheering for their team. If it was his home game I'm quiet sure the crowd would STFU and let him call the signals so his offense can run the play. For example, watch Peyton Manning at work on his home field. Hell, look at Drew Brees. That's totally different from the band. They make artificial noise which can be controlled. The offense can't hear while the band is playing whenever their team has possession of the football...

Exactly! And the band is an extension of the University and the Team. Yelling at a game is covered in the first amendment...Freedom of Speech. Mississippi State is gonna have to pay fines out the yin yang due to those damn cowbells for this very reason.

First off, don't even bring high schools into the discussion. That shit is moot.

Secondly, show me a college conference (outside of the HBCU ranks) where bands play anytime they want. I said this because those dumb asses in the other HBCU conferences do this too.

Because the crowd is not subject to the rules of the NCAA.

which makes it, what everyone else is saying, a dumbass rule.......

Crowd is gonna be louder than the band

Punish the band because its organized noise....even tho th QB hears the Crowd instead of the band...

:)

I know all about the crowd noise that works in Drew Brees favor... Hell I am apart of it when ever I attend a home game...

You can control any noise.. whether it be vocal or instruments.... Again.. it the refs. want it quiet for the oppossing team.. adapt the same rules for Tennis and Golf.

You keep referring to the source of the noise... Just like I can put an instrument down and stfu.. I can close my mouth and stfu...

The whole point is NOISE dsrupts the offense...

Of course I ain't talking about GSU playing while their offense has the ball... that's just stupid...
or JSU, SU for that matter...

But GSU playing a spirit song while the crowd is rocking to it.. WAS a huge part of the HBCU atmosphere..

Just like JSU used to play the show the WHOLE 3rd quarter....While the crowd acted a fool...

Just like Alcorn played their nice grooves and the crowd participated during the Mcnair days and before... that shyt made alot of us want to attend HBCUs...

All that was part of the culture....

That's just my stance on it though...

Some of yall make me ashamed to be a bandhead, sometimes...

can't have it both ways man... everyone don't see it the same way... depend on your background and what you grew up on...

Hell the SWAC been grooving through the entire games... and where Im from.... it was never an issue.. and bands BEEN loud where im from... it just went alone with the atmosphere...

Ain't nothing wrong with you being into band and seeing things differently.. hell most bandhands agree with me... So imagine the shame you are putting on us with your statments?

Right but they can play a sample of the song after the snap and until the offense form a huddle for the next play.

Just like JSU used to play the show the WHOLE 3rd quarter....While the crowd acted a fool...

They can play "Da Show" or "Lodi Dodi" but not the whole damn qtr.

Just like Alcorn played their nice grooves and the crowd participated during the Mcnair days and before... that shyt made alot of us want to attend HBCUs...

It maybe part of culture but the rule has been in the book well before McNair even got there. Ref sucks and everybody know they aren't consistent with any calls at all

All that was part of the culture....

That's just my stance on it though...

The Big Ten bands do press the issue in playing. I have been to many. The deal is, they aint as loud as HBCU bands. They use perfect timing and the crowd is so big they usually can drown out the band. LOL. I know it happens at the Ohio State games and Minnesota games. And when Michigan and Ohio State play. They be going at it sometimes. But like I said, the crowd noise is 10 times more than those bands. So it aint no deal. In the SWAC our bands be causing some issues I guess. I know Doc was good at playing quick and then picking back up when the play is over. The SWAC is getting to the point you can't play in the huddle. At the JSU game. I was like SU aint playing with the ball in play but kept getting warned. First time I have ever seen the Juke get warned that many times. The sad thing is you have the players on the sidelines wanting the bands to blow. LOL.

Doc knew what the deal was...

Me, SOGgy and MB had a debate about that recently. :smh:
