This may actually help him get a head coaching job quicker...

In layman terms "SU I still want the job at home and I'm still here". So if Stump doesn't pan out by next year, we can still work something out.

I realize after not getting any real offers that I may have been asking to much with no head coaching experience.

You do realize Doug was given the Morehouse position with little experience as an assistant and he got the Grambling job coming off 2 bad seasons at Morehouse...the rest is history.......

No one gave George Ivory, a career assistant in the SWAC, a shot until UAPB and look what he's done because he knows the league....

And you're comparing the Morehouse job to Southern? TW you do realize that before Doug got that job he volunteer at Southern in an attempt to get a job there?

Easy here,

Fred Washinghton, you have done a great thing in promoting Heisha to head coach in waiting....First time a HBCU has ever done that.....GOOD LUCK PVAMU and CONGRATS TO SU'S OWN HISHA NORTHERN...YOU HAVE PAID YOU PRICE WITH A SWAC CHAMPIONSHIP AND GOOD ADVICE FROM GREATS LIKE DOUG, PETE, FRAZIER...NOT TO MENTION TOP D1 PROGRAMS AND THE NFL MINORITY PROGRAM...GREAT STORY..GREAT COACH...

Agreed. This isn't big news. It's nothing but "internal positioning." This is obviously a move on the athletic department at PV to appease this brother because it appears he may have outgrown his job as position coach and they want him to stay and feel like he's growing. But how much growing can this guy do except to take Frazier's job? Well, that's not happening - Frazier's not going anywhere. I see another ten years - at least - for Frazier as PV's head coach. That guy can go 6-5 for the rest of his career and he'll still be considered the "savior who walks on water" at PV. All a person can say about this is good luck to Heish in the future - where ever he lands.

But getting the coach you got with head coaching experience has paid off big time........LOL

And you can tell that in just five games? I see searching for a real head coach for over thirty years has really paid off.

Does this "elevation" come with a raise??? Head coaches in waiting usually make way more than just regular assistants.

even Frazier will tell you administrative commitment has helped him be successful....the others didn't have it for 30 years because past administrations thought otherwise....once the commitment was installed you have noticed the trend has shifted towards Texas in alot of things...

how many SWAC Coaches in their current jobs would drop their drawers to move to Texas? I know quite a few

One thing about PV's President and AD (they had to sign off on it), they're loyal to assistant coaches and individuals who've paid dues within.....if anything, you come to PV you have a legitimate shot of coaching the team...can't fault that
