1. How is it Boise State's fault that Va. Tech is bad football team. Nobody knew Va. Tech would lose to an FCS school the following week. If you are going to give credit to Bama and all these other schools for beating ranked opponents, then one would have to give Boise credit for upending their ranked opponents no matter if that school or schools fall out of the Top 25. That is not Boise's fault. It is the fault of those who ranked the teams prior to the start of the regular season.
2. Why should Boise State have to jump through all these hoops just to play for a national title? I can understand if Ohio State and Bama finish unbeaten and Boise can't play in the Fiesta Bowl. But to say a one or even a two-loss AQ BCS school would get the nod over an undefeated Boise is unfair considering, the public has been indoctrinated with the "every game matters" mandate and "every week is a playoff" edict the last 10 years or so since this sham of a system was created. Every game mattering only applies to small schools. Not to teams in the big six conferences.
I have heard analysts say Bama, Texas, Ohio State etc can afford to lose early and still play for the championship at the end of the season. But if Boise State had lost to Va. Tech, they would have been playing scrimmage games the rest of the season.
Do you not know that before the season even starts 1/3 of all FBS schools don't have a shot at playing for the national title?
We tend to focus on Boise State and Utah and TCUs of the world. But no MAC, C-USA or Sun Belt school will play for the national championship either. This whole thing comes down to economics. If you can pay your way into one of the big boy conferences, then, only then will you have a shot at a national title.
Boise is moving to the Mountain West to give them a slightly increased chance of a legit title shot. But again, since they don't play in the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, PAC-10, ACC or Big East there still is no guarantee even with an undefeated season.
