The 9th Annual Honda Battle of The Bands - The Bands - Vote Now!

Man they might as well announce for the SWAC. It probably will be JSU and PV or TXSU. It's a popularity vote. I see Southern took their names off the ballot, smart move. Once you've done one Honda it's overkill.

Agreed. I'm tired of seeing PV at Honda......Love my school an all but....Bring on Valley and Alcorn! lol

I couldn't agree with you more. It seems to be more of a popular vote than trying to give every school a chance to participate in the event. But at the rate things are going, only if MVSU and the "Corn"are a force this year, but if not, then there is an unlikely chance neither school will be there.

For HONDA, it's business/selling tickets.

I'd like to see some bands who haven't been there, too.

Though it would be nice to see ALL SWAC bands get a chance to rep at that event, I can only imagine the complaints and gripes that would come if Alcorn or Valley got an invite. I mean folks will complain anyway...but it would just be ridiculous if Valley or Alcorn got the chance to go. I can see it now.

You're right. People would be talking about how neither one of those bands could represent the SWAC right.

If they had good bands, they would go.

Oh! So it's not really about letting every band in the SWAC perform at least once in the Honda. They're only allowed to perform at least once if the have a band that's meets the standards of what a SWAC band should be. Ok. Now I get it. It all about perception. No matter if MSVS or Alcorn could probably smack around a band from the MEAC like Norforlk St. who has gotten a chance to perform at the Honda.

Not trying to be funny. But Norfolk State aint a bad band by no means. They are headed up by SWAC alums and I am not sure Valley's Band would be better than them. I can't speak for Alcorn. I have seen them look really good at times. Just have not seen them recently.

Actually the voting process is bogus. The people over Honda tried to get Grambling to come back a couple of times. Came to Grambling personally to wine and dine Doc Pannell and the former president of Grambling, Horace Judson thinking that would make Dr. Pannell to allow Grambling's name to be put on the ballot but Doc refused to do that because he feels other band should have the opportunity to build their name and exposure. It's all about how big the name is at Honda. Dr. Pannell really didn't want to go to the first Honda but the President want him to take the band because he feels Honda is pimping bands and giving them chump change and he doesn't like being in the same hotel as other bands because a fight could easily ignite.

I am tired of seeing the same bands over and over again too.

My picks

SIAC - Miles (although they fell off a lot since they started)
MEAC - South Carolina State, Bethune-Cookman
CIAA - Virginia State (the only one that entertains in this group in my opinion)
SWAC - Alcorn State, Alabama A&M (I know repeat)
INDEPENDANT - Tennesse State, Texas College

The selections wouldn't be so bad if they at least changed the venue. Can honda at least try to cater to a different region annually? I bet if they took the event to the West Coast, for instance, they would find a lot of success there. Don't they crave the HBCU experience out there anyway (looking at the numbers that attended the Angel City Classic out there)? An HBCU battle of the bands would be right up their alley. And it wouldn't be freaking 2.5 degrees out there either!!!!

On the real Alcorn and Valley sound better than some of the Siac and Ciaa bands that attend the event. Why not bring ASU and Valley there. Look at Clark-Atlant and Fort Valley, horrible bands that get invited year in and year out. Savannah St and NCCU smh are horrible as well...
