So, everybody has to play the same Ole' School Song? If you need some ideas, hit me up, I have hundreds that would give you your own jammin' identity. Even LSU is trying to claim they have the best Neck... Really?... Of well, often imitated, but never duplicated. Imitation is the best form of flattery... lol...

You do know GSU was playing Neck before SU? SU just started playing Neck in the late, late 90's bruh at least the version that they play now, 300 times during a game. You must be on the crown royal or have been under a damn rock. ROTFL

Hey, got us there. I realize yall don't need to copy nobody. Yall created "cooning" on yall own.

You mention cooning when Bama State has 500 pound females put in the front of the band every weekend just to get house. Man please don't throw bricks, rocks and sticks in a glass house. I mean yall created a danceline of cellulite and tons of fat to get house and you try to criticize, potna that doesn't add up. smh

did somebody from bama state mention cooning????????

oh my dayum im really gone after that. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

They c**n themselves every weekend and never noticed it. Hell the proof is left when those big a-- linebackers march off the field after dancing in front of the band leaving weekly moon craters in the turf, grass or dirt.

:D

OOOOO, lilrj, as my Grandma used to say "be shame"!

Can a BANDSMAN please tell me what the fascination is with this tune? I really do not get it.

Is it just the trumpet/bone/sax riff? I just watched the Cameo video and I must admit that there is not much more to work with. What am I missing?

Marching band isn't about what WE want to play or perform... It's about what the crowd and the teams like to hear.
Whenever and wherever crowd appeal is satisfied at the expense of education and the artform, the marching band program is a facade and a sham. Davis, Foster, Hutchinson, Greggs, etc., all knew this. That is why the product was so excellent.

If this is what we have come to, then I understand why the overall product is as stale and unmusical as it is.

mustardmanSU_04, these statements are not directed at you. If you really believe your statement, you have been sold a pig-in-a-poke by an attitude that came along way before you did. The environment is bad and it needs to be changed.

I understand, and partially feel the way you do. IF we were talking about a concert ensemble, then yes indeed I would agree 137% that the entertainment shouldn't be a legitimate factor. And, I didn't mean the band has "NO say-so", or anything like that, but it has been said time and time again, that the marching band at a football game is NOT about the marching band "showing up and showing out", or "crankin'" on the opposing teams band.... It's about getting the crowds hype, which in turn will fuel the fire in the hearts of our football teams. Now, I dont know about the OTHER schools, but at Southern, the football team, cheerleaders, fans and alumni LOVE to hear "Neck" and aside from the fight song, it is 1 tune that is DEFINTELY gonna get those pom-poms a'shakin'. Do we (The Jukebox) love playing neck 10x per game? No, but it has become our secondary theme song/battle cry (For lack of better verbage) due to the energy that it feeds into the fans and team.

.....and yet, GSU's band is still ranked below both ASU's in the swac.
