SWAC Media Day???

PV was chosen to win the SWAC West 17-3 votes over second placed Grambling.

AAMU was picked to finish first in the East with 15 to 5 votes over JSU.

Note: Preseason picks are seldom correct.

The coaches, sports information directors, and selected media of the Southwestern Athletic Conference provided no surprises in preseason voting the 2010 Defensive and Offensive Preseason Players of the Year.

Last year's post-season winners, defensive end Christian Anthony from Grambling, and quarterback K.J. Black of Prairie View were named heading into Tuesday's SWAC Kickoff Luncheon and Media Day.

Anthony was a dominant defensive force who finished 10th in the league with 76 tackles and third overall in both sacks (8.0) and tackles-for-loss (15.0) in 2009. As a defensive lineman he recorded five interceptions and returned two of them for touchdowns for the Tigers. He led the league in fumbles forced with five, and he recovered three loose balls.

I know it's just pre-season guesstimation but I think it's a credit to PV's coaching staff and their ability to recruit and retain talent that's helped over the years.

Here is a breakdown of each team in the conference and the number of members each has on the teams heading into the 2010 season.

Prairie View A&M (10); Grambling (7); Texas Southern (7); Jackson State (6); Alabama A&M (5); Southern (4); Alabama State (4); Alcorn State (3); Mississippi Valley State (3); Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1).

PV has to be doing something right to garner that much attention.

Usually when you win the SCG your picked, along with the number of people returning. Nothing new.:noidea:

Not sure who is doing the voting at the SWAC but neither of these guys will start for us... Go figure... And if my memory serve me well Duran was dismissed from SU team early on by Stump..

Specifically Heishma Northern!

Dang! We got NO LOVE!!!!

I love it!

It's so much sweeter when you kick azz!!!

There is too much going on this year for UAPB to be in the mix right now. I have always said that you had the best DC in the SWAC...now what happened to your defense last year, I don't know...lol All you needed was some offense to win some games. If your new OC works out, you will be okay.

However, the focus right now is on whether PV can win it all again, if Gram can bounce back, if Stump can bring Jags program back, if TxSO can continue to improve, and if will Comegy rebound. AAMU is getting some love but they are not really a team of interest. Most expect them to remain average and hope to come out of the pack if a better team does not emerge. UAPB, Valley, Alabama State, and Alcorn are all under the radar right now. The only interest at AlaState is if Spears can make an impact. There is just no real interesting story on Alcorn, Valley, AAMU, or UAPB.

SOrry dude but he benefitted last year because he didn't face ONE opponent with a passing attack. If Nelson can pass the ball, PV is going down in week 1. Northern can't stop the pass.

Yeah....that secondary was suspect.....and I'm sure the staff knew it....looks like adjustments have been made....

Let'em wonder like those folx in th wilderness totally blind for 40 yrs lol. :retard:
