SU GSU leaves SWAC

I'm still in favor of adding Morehouse and Tuskegee (at a minimum) from the SIAC... I really think it would help all of our schools to play every other year in Atlanta. Also, since we're not going into the playoffs, let's petition the NCAA to allow us to always have a 12 game regular season schedule.

6 Divisional Game
3 Permanent other Division Opponents
1 Other "rotating" team from other division
2 $$$ games (non-conference teams ONLY)

Morehouse and Tuskegee? Would those really be the two teams the SWAC would add to increase league revenue? I would take Albany State before Morehouse.

Being a Texas Southern Grad and a businessman I see this plan with mixed thoughts. Yes I want the largest market and my university to be apart but this initial model is something to work on. The new conference should make members more accountable and committed to Spring sports (AAMU, SCSt).
One problem though is without the SWAC the Texas Teams would be hurt and that would make them more difficult to add later.

No..no...no; Those are small tater tots! :emlaugh: Perhaps they would be ok for the SWAC after the big fish leave. :emlaugh: They could then brag about what we achieved when were the big fish in a little pond.

What should happen on the serious tip is.......S.U. FAMU, TNST, SCST, GRAM, JSU, BCC, Bama St., AAMU & NC A&T should form a new conference and moved to the FBS (formerly I-A). The new name could be the South Atlantic
Athletic Conference. The conference would be split into two divisions with 8 conference games mandated (three revolving and one Permanent out of division foe........Permanent foe in parenthesis)

SEAC South

1) Southern (FAMU)
2) Jackson State (TNST)
3) Grambling (SCST)
4) Alabama State (NC A&T)
5) Alabama A&M (BCC)

SEAC Atlantic

1) Florida A&M (S.U.)
2) Tennessee State (JSU)
3) Bethune Cookman (AAMU)
4) South Carolina State (Gram)
5) North Carolina A&T (Bama St)

Possible Sponsored Conference Championship Homes

1) Georgia Dome
2) Louisiana Super Dome

Possible Bowl Alliances
1) Sunbelt 2) C-USA 3) WAC 4) MAAC

Potential Expansion Programs

1) Texas Southern University
2) Prairie View A&M
3) Hampton University
4) Norfolk State

This model is the "Big Ticket!"
Conference Mandate: No more than 1 FCS Opponent per year for each conference team and no D-2 teams or below.....

In terms of name recognition and branding, Morehouse (imo) brings more to the table.

what have you done for me lately...have you noticed how the Big 12 regarded "Kansas" basketball? all that history with no say in their future?

You act like GSU has fallen lol. We can't win them all but we win most of the time. So that what have you done lately crap doesn't pertain to us. Don't let the win over Grambling and SCG blind you so easily but that is expected when you're not used to that so you and your PV peeps get a pass because you don't know any better. Back to topic. So peeps that are in favor of this let's get this thing going.

Do your schools have a 20million $$$ private cable pkg or multi-million $$$ cable pkg laying in wait, like I see those other "big-time" schools doing? Also, do you guys have the corporate backing and foundation support to propose such a move? Also, are the revenue generators, competing vs FBS schools wholeheartedly, in place (scheduling 2-4yrs out)?

I've seen up close and personal what UNT endured. I don't think the mental capability to lead such an effort exists on your campii or mine currently (plural campus :emlaugh: ). :) Just being real.

I say if you're not in favor of the idea why worry about it? The po man mentality doesn't sit with me well. Plans have to be put in place to get many things done, i don't think no one was saying this will happen next year or even the year after that. Sheesh.

Y'all window shopping looking @ Porsche 911  while you're working for McDonalds frying french-fries minimum-wage for a living. What type of illogical thought process is that? :emlaugh:

Oh, I got it. Y'all thinking ya' gonna' hit the lotto huh? That's gonna' be the only way unless you're standing there looking idiotic thinking someone owes you something for nothing. :emlaugh: On the fringe, literally, of cutting sports (& academic :read: ) programs in 2 mos but thinking of bolting for the big-time. Prolly should serve the resources to shore up what you have (maintain) and THEN think "bolt".

Continue on w/ the "hood-rich" thought pattern. It's quite entertaining. :emlaugh:

Out of all the schools in the SWAC there is only one that i can think of that had to drop a sport and it's not my business to call them out and worry about their situation. Bitterness is rearing it's ugly head in this thread.:emlaugh::emlaugh:

I could not read all of the ignorance you all are spilling but while this thread is stupid, it's not really stupid to think of options. A few years ago, the ACC changed the landscape of college athletics. It's about to happen again. When will HBCU's realize that we can't operate successfully in a system we started in 1920? You hardly even hear kids say they want to go to HBCU's anymore. I met a young man yesterday who was talking to me and my wife. I told him I went to JSU and she said she had gone to Southern Miss. He said he was considering Southern Miss and I promptly told him to consider JSU. I will start making it a point to travel with JSU brochures. These kids are going with what they know and what they see and whether our alums, presidents, and friends want to accept it, athletics play a BIG part in the perception of a university. While we sit here and want to sell our soul for the 1-AA playoffs, most of America and most of black America don't know the difference between D-1AA and D2. They think we are ALL D2 especially since we play each other.

When will we change the landscape of Black College athletics? If SU and Grambling want to move on...even to the Sunbelt, that might be the shot in the arm we need....and coming to the table with the Bayou Classic might be a good thing.

Amazing what a few years make.
What happened to all that "Grass is greener" and "take ya'll arse on" when this discussion was held a few years ago about the azz backwards direction and business model the SWAC was following?
People on here with that "Other FCS conferences wish they could do what we do" talk.

Can't compete/AND DON'T WANT TO COMPETE/ on this level, FCS, yet people actually think we can jump up and roll into a TV deal and bowl setup. Ya'll think CON-USA get disrespected, what do ya'll think will happen with this even if it could get off the ground.:retard:

Just following the convo and being real about it cause ya'll know I gave up years ago when everybody was crying about scheduling and wanting that 9 game mandate bullshat to come back.

Other conferences still wish they could do what we do. Look at the Southland. They lose 50-0 in the playoffs and they have nothing close to a Bayou Classic. If they did, they would ditch the playoffs.

If you do nothing you go backwards so atleast think of the possibilities. The goal I think is to intergrate athletics and sportsmanship into the educational process, while developing leaders and competitive individuals. It takes money to be effective in reaching this goal. I don't know but I doubt many of you would disagree with that. It takes ideas even the idiotic ones to begin the progression to improve.
The powers that be get information and ideas from this site, believe it or not.
I would love to see more inititive and schemes on how HBCU's could generate more funding for athletics. Athletics is the largest marketing tool at our disposal and I dare say we don't use it enough.:lecture:
