FAMU hands down.

REBIRTH. That song never sounded right when a marching band played it.

One thing I can say is, you can see why these are two of your top HBCU bands year in and year out. They both can play the same song and song great doing it with two different arrangements. Both sound good. No need to justify who is the best when they both are great and keeping their traditions alive of sounding and performing great. Doc Greggs and Doc Foster should be proud of that their hard work paid off and is still paying off. They are two of the greatest band directors to ever live!!!

True, I think southern has the better arrangement, but i'm pissed that they don't play that ending they used to play any more....1,3, 5, 8,7, 9 ,9 .....1, 3, 5 ,8,7, 10, 9----....scale tones(flat 7 and 9)

I tried to be very objective about this.

I like the ARRANGEMENT of SU better...but I like FAMU's execution better.

Now, I will admit that what the SU trumpet section captured the lyric.

That this is even a question just goes to show you that people, even the ultra-biased people on TSPN which is decidedly SWAC, see FAMU's version and realize that it improves on what should be your domain, i mean it's a LA/SU thing right, but my goodness, that it comes to a question between SU and FAMU? What does FAMU know about "do what you wanna" other than just being in your face just for the heck of it because they can and it's a good rivalry game between the MEAC and the SWAC? FAMU has more energy, power and theatrics than SU in their version which really has gotten the attention of SU/SWAC partisans obviously from it coming up in a forum like this. I think FAMU's version is better and I enjoy it, their powerful tuba/brass section and their theatrics more than the SU version.

Their is a such thing as over playing a song. Famu basically took a Bayou song and made it into a broadway, high school musical theme song :retard: . Sounds good and balanced.....but greatly overplayed and analyzed.....

To hell with theatrics. This is a second line song and FAMU's version does not sound like second line. It sounds daymn near like a dixie tune. This poll was created by a FAMU band member so get your panties out of a bunch. This is the first time I've ever seen some as a question as stupid as this one.

I just laugh when some Hunned members don't understand that. Alot of times they equate that with "it doesn't sound good". Esp, if someone from SU would cringe at their arrangement. No one ever said FAMn's version doesn't sound good. But, it SOOO out of place.

Of course, FAMn band memebers love it. That should be a given. But, point blank, their version has no real 2nd Line feel to it.

That's like trying to squeeze more soul out of this....

...and, wondering why more folks like this version better...

Doesn't make the former bad. But, it's just nowhere close to the latter.

Exactly!!!

FAMU executes their version well but if my former high school band director Roderick Paulin (former Rebirth brass band member) heard FAMU's version. He'd shake his head. I know he would!!!

Like the Rock says, "It doesn't matter who has the best version"

When the Marching 100 plays it, the fans get up and the football team starts cracking skulls...it serves it's purpose for us.

HOWEVER, I really like the SU version because it's "authentic"

But for this question to be posted on SWAC page, what kind of response did you expect...they HATE FAMU over here...

What can you expect of FAMU? Always keeping sh!t going, just like the way they constantly keep packing it up in their own azz.:vomit:

And it's been serving the same purpose at SU for 20+ years now. Why do you think we play it after TD's, as our last song EVERY YEAR at the Bayou Classic, or to end Pep Rally's?

Exactly. What crowd ISN'T usually dancing like that during 2nd Line'n?...

So, "PUSH" on that one.

The 100 has been playing it for YEARS as well...and trust me we KNOW ya'll play it everywhere...I remember when ya'll beat us back in 2001 and played it as we turned the sprinklers on while ya'll fans stormed our field...LOl

But ya'll acting like ya'll own the damn song...like SU has the only authority to play it...if FAMU fans like it, then it will be played.

But like I said, I LOVE the SU version because it has that authentic feel to it...I wish we could get the return game in Bragg so that our fans(mainly younger students not familiar with SU and Louisiana) can hear both versions.
