Epatha Merkerson is departing the series after 17 seasons. Said decision comes as production is about to begin on the show's 20th season finale. Merkerson reportedly made the request in time to give her character an appropriate send-off.

Also Gina Torres (Fishburne) returns to tv on ABC Family's Huge featuring Nikki Blonsky on June 28th.

Nia Peeples also returns on June 8th on PRETTY LITTLE LIARS on ABC Family.

She's another very good black actress that doesn't get her props...that show won't be the same without her.

She plays a minor role, but a role I like, but the show has survived cast changes before. I actually like the new cast. Less Jack McCoy is great, and Sirus and Lupo kick arse as detectives!

Hate to see you go Lou, maybe they can bring

I guess they're gonna kill her off with the cancer....

I hope they don't kill her off...I might actually start back watching to see her end the show.

I stopped watching it b/c of all the cast changes and I don't like Anthony Anderson in this role.

She is one of my all time favorite actresses. "Lackawanna Blues" is my favorite movie!!!

That was an awesome movie!

Right, with all those checks coming in huh? LOL

If you really look at they are for the most part.
They can go a few years without doing another series and movies and live off those syndication/dvd/comics/games checks.

You spend a certain number of years on a show and you'll get that check.

That's why folks were upset that Kelly Prine and Sciliy got axed from One on One before the final season. Even if they only appeared in 5 episodes of the final season-they would have gotten those checks.

One of the cast members from Cosby (CBS series) used his syndication check to fund his own movie years back. He was the husband of Cosby's daughter (from in Living Color).

I think Brian Hooks (Eve) does the same thing.
