Meet, act & depart...
Why can't ya'll say "congrats" or positive words and let it go??? Everything doesn't have to turn into a debate or "this is what MY BAND has done, and we're better than you." Dayum!
At some point, we should be glad that OUR schools are getting positive national coverage.
Congrats, Gram!!!
You beat me to it. My goodness... Everything is not up for debate. GSU's band was selected and, in doing so, they represented all HBCUs. As my brother stated in "Two Can Play That Game", "This is bigger than you! Waaaay bigger than you!!!!".
Bad news hurts us all, because they said "Those black college bands....". Good news helps us all. Sure it news impacts the one that is directly involved. But, like dropping a rock in a lake, the ripples extend outwardly upon impact.
This is not a thread on our opinions of who is the best band or the best program. This is about one of our sibblings receiving some recognition. When one of us receives some recognition, we are licensed to do as we do with our family member - brag to others what we (family/HBCUs) are doing. When one of us does something negative, we are licensed to discipline each other (family/HBCUs) internally. We use to say in our community don't hang your dirty laundry on the line, meaning don't air your mess in public. Handle it at home (internally). We have become a people that fully execute the Willie Lynch letter - cut down each other no matter what is going on in front of whoever is around. We must do better.
Again, Kudos GSU. It was a nice segment and that helps all of our HBCU bands.
Peace...
