Self-Smacking and/or Criticism.....

It's been a long time since i've been on here, you know been working......

Anyhow, there are numerous things I would like to see happen for the Crats, as far as improvement goes.

1. Recruitment.....Man for the past years our trombone section has been small in numbers forever. Need at least a strong 32 in number...As well as the trumpet section, need more people who can take it up an octave.

Everyone always says we have a killer low brass section, but it always swallows up the trumpets. I tend to agree with that

2. GET AN ANNOUNCER WHO KNOW HOW WHAT TO SAY, AND WHEN TO SAY IT. Nuff said

3. I think some one said it in an earlier post, but bring back some of those
90's style dance routines. If you look at B.E.T., those routines use to get
mega-house. The Crats need to stop being so damn CONSERVATIVE, if
routine cause for you to get on the ground, then by all means necessary
do it. Use to look at BAMA STATE, ALCORN, and FAMU dance routines
back in the 90's, and certain dance movesthey did which involved getting
on the ground, the roar of the crowd was bananas.

You and I know very well, 60,000 plus fans at a classic game could care
less on the drill, and music you play during the halftime show. All they
concerned about is which band is going to out jam the other with the
baddest dance steps in the dance routine. Thats what everyone
typically waits on.

they are lacking THEY.... that one dm thing and AAMU dont mix.

Sorry, I don't know much about AAMU and/or their history.... Is it tradition that there is more than one? (I'm going to assume YES, because as far as I know, SU is the only SWAC band with 1 DM.). If so, your issue has to do with keeping traditions, right?

Well, AAMU was known to have 5 drum majors all through the 90's and early 2000's, but I assume Wesley(band director) felt there was no need for that many, and narrowed it down to 1.

So if that was the band directors decision.. than the question is " what is the current DM not doing to be a "good" DM " ..

(I don't know that he is or not, just going by what one of the former band members on here saying)

I see you are trying to keep the thread going in the direction that I intended it to be. We are ALL so quick to research and DIG for smack and dirty laundry to air on other bands.... Let's discuss our own on this thread. If you bring something up DISCUSS it, otherwise, leave it alone cuz you are just complaining. Constructive critisism states a problem and offers a solution. THAT is what I was envisioning with this thread.

That's also because a handful of folks get their tubes all in a bunch when you ask them a legit question about their program.... No names needed..but, that's happened already in 2010. Lawd help us if someone from SU ask. Then, it's war time, cuz SU apparently hates 'my' program...:retard:

Agreed...

That's why this is a SELF-smack thread. Of course, nobody expects band-X to get on here and say: "I wish Dr. Who's-his-face would stop relying on psychic readings from The Great Gazoo to tell us what songs and dances will house out, when we all know The Great Gazoo aint been on it since the Flintsones. That, along with the DM's crack addiction is the reason why our band aint/can't/won't/don't *insert random hoobajoo here*"

This thread is to focus in more specifically and hone in on and issue, and a probable solution. Example.

1: Focus and teach/ enforce marching fundamentals.

STRESS fundamentals during band camp, so the crabs and band as a WHOLE will be better prepared for THE SEASON, rather than stressing music so the band can be ready for *insert random HBCU Classic game here*.

If we can train ourselves as current/former members/active alumni to be solution oriented, rather than just tearing down, we CAN make a difference.

Hope you don't mind my badgering, but WHAT would make them better? What are they lacking, in your modest opinion.

Due to an internal situation we were reduced to one drum major. After the situation was resolved it wasn't switched back. I would love to see the 5 back out there but the way the drum major carries himself, leadership ability, field presence, knowing when and what to play at the game, and having that mentality that you can't be fugged with is missing...
