It took a kid from Big Ten country to go down to Alabama and not only win the Heisman, but win the national title. I had to get that one in.

I understand that but do we need to hear repeatedly WHY he's in prison? I mean damn. They just over kill it.

.

This is ESPN, dear. They overkill everything. I am just glad Tim Tebow was not playing tonight. I would have had to turn the volume down.

Texas OC should have let that QB play in the 2nd qt. It would have made a big difference.

I don't have a problem with them sitting on the ball in the first half...well actually I did when the game was going on...but dammit man!! You haven't let this kid throw the ball much in the first half and you want to call a silly timeout with 15 seconds in the first half? Hind sight is 20-20 but me and my boys were LIVID when Mack Brown pulled that BS. You let that kid get his bearnings at halftime and see what happens in the 2nd half.

When Oklahoma was beating Texas early in the decade, Longhorn offensive coordinator Greg Davis took a lot of heat. Expect him to take some heat tomorrow. As a matter of fact, I will listen some of the Houston talk shows. I am going to get a good laugh at what the callers will say.

And a Big 10 coach. Interesting that Saban, Les Miles and Urban Meyer all have Big 10 ties.

It takes kids from real football programs (ala Southlake Carroll HS) to lead mediocre squads. :)

Can't have a nat'l champion w/out kids from Texas. It's just the way it is. Sorta' like how God made 7 days of the week. :emlaugh:

yep cause poor thing would not have made it without the conditioning of the SEC. :D you see those calfs kept crampin up, some ole midwest BS. Only kiddin, cause dude deserve all his credit, he is damn great!

and don't forget the two defensive turnovers that materialized into TDs, one that ultimately sealed the deal were from players born AND bred in Birmingham, AL. We grow em right down here, no batchin allowed. DIRTY SOUTH STAND UP!

BTW, what did ol' boys dad go to jail for? I didn't watch the entire game. Only the 1st and the last 8mins 4th qrtr.

Just curious.

Yeah, McElroy's 11 pass attempts really made the difference.

I think Texas' OC came out with a good game plan. Like i said..i don't even blame him for shutting the offense down in the first half after McCoy got hurt. What you didnt want the freshman to come in a make some stupid throws when the game was moving too fast for him.Bama's offense was having their own playcalling issues so at that point I'm just trying to keep the game close.

My only problem with the playcalling after McCoy got hurt was if you're going to let that kid throw the ball...dont put him in bad situations like 3rd and 13 and such. Let him throw it on first down and stop running that weak ass draw play that was getting ate at the line of scrimmage.

I don't remember...was McCoy in the game with 3rd and goal at the 2 early in the game? I don't get why they didn't try to run the ball twice for the early 7 - 0 lead. I dont know...I questioned a lot of the decisions that were being made in the game by both Head Coaches.

I agree with almost everything you said. I am going to listen to some of the Houston talk shows and will bet that some callers will say the same things that you are saying.

Gilbert actually scored a touchdown on the first and goal play, but it was wiped out on a penalty. But you are right about how Texas used him during those first couple of series. You don't ask a kid who has never been in game this big in his life to start throwing the ball all over the lot.

You don't want him to throw picks and ruin his confidence. Gilbert was already under pressure having to replace McCoy. I also agree that they should have allow the kid to throw some five yards outs just to get him comfortable. But Gilbert looked so rattled even when he did have time to throw. So, you don't know. It is tough to make that big of an on the fly adjustment like Texas was forced to early on. You just can't prepare for something like having to bring in a true freshman quarterback in a game of this caliber.

Venom Skywalker,

Colt McCoy was out of the game by then. In fact, the freshman could not get the team lined up on 1st and goal from the 1 and received a 10 yard penalty that was some what offset by a personal penalty that was then half the distant that moved the ball back to the 6.

Panther88,

The gentleman that made the late play of the game i.e., the sack that cause the fumble with the score, 21-24 Alabama at the 4+ minute mark in the fourth quarter is from Texas - 32 Eryk Anders LB 6-2 235 Sr. SAN ANTONIO, TX.

Actually they were penalized 5 yards for not having enough men at the LOS and got 2 back on a personal foul call after the play. It was 3rd and 1 when they decided to pass the ball. When everybody has been talking about how much tougher Bama was than Texas, I thought that would have been a good opportunity to line up and make a statement. They settled for 3 instead.

Oh well...good game either way. On to the NFL playoffs.

I got to give mad props to the Texas freshmen quarterback.....He was put into a difficult situation and gave the Long Horns hope.....He should be good for their program in the future. Shipley, the wide receiver, has the ability to be a great New England Patriot or Indianapolis Colts receiver......I was very impressed with Shipley. But when it all said and done........Roll Tide......

Always take the field goal in a championship game. If you don't make it, it sets the coach up for some big-time second guessing if your team loses a close game.

Lol. Now you know that ain't happening. Now this don't bode well for Auburn and the rest of the SEC. Saban is loaded.

Auburn has one of the top recruiting classes in the nation... last I checked it was in the top 3. They just signed the #1 JUCO QB in the nation (the laptop thief qb who got kicked off the team at Florida)... and the number 1 running back in the country Michael Dyer... Chizick is on it down at AU.

The bad shovel pass play call/execution at the end of the first half lost the game for Texas. It gave Bama 7 points that Texas could not afford to give away like that.

repeat....

Mack Brown choked...Gilbert is a good passer

The Texas OC choked for that bone head shuffle pass and trying to run

Colt suck for worrying about his NFL future rather then playing

Texas deserved to lose
