If I have to wear Bama paraphernalia, this is why..

I have been an ALABAMA fan before I even knew where Alabama State was located. When I came down south, I was forced to choose between Alabama and Auburn. I didnt' know what an Auburn was so I played it safe and went with the state name. It was recorded in the books and the rest is history. Yep.....it's that deep.

Walter Lewis and I became friends when I got to Brewton, Al. He graduated and went on to become the starting QB @ Bama. He was before his time. He was Michael Vick before Michael Vick and BAMA NATION (as most PWCs) were definitely NOT ready for it back then.

Some of u guys kill me. There is nothing wrong with feeling pride when the PWC in your state wins a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. ESPECIALLY if you were born and bred in that state. I cant' get mad at ya though. Most of you wouldnt' understand because you dont know what it feels like. :D Alabama has 13 National Titles. Tradition is deep down hea'.

Let's stop this racial PWC crap. NEGROES PUHHH-LEEEZE! We all know that racism is the very reason ALL our HBCUs were founded in the first place. Our goal is to preserve, support, and cherish our fine institutions. That's the way it was back then. Period.

Ironic (and fitting) that the first Heisman Trophy winner be black @ Alabama. George C. Wallace would be proud. Contrary to his once menacing demeanor, the man changed. History doesnt' dwell on that though. The same door he once BLOCKED is now an avenue for blacks to reach goals we never imagined possible.

its just that we (Bama State) are the only school i see where folks care just as much or more about another school than their own.

Some Bama A&M people were repping Bama hard on TSPN prior to the SCG too. It must be a Bama thing. I eventually chalked it up to the fact that small, rural states generally don't have anything else to root for, so the "flagship" university becomes the state's "pro team". I guess it might be the same for places like Oklahoma and Nebraska.

Bama football plain and simple is the reason that NFL would never do well in the state.... Whoever the NFL team was would always play second fiddle to Alabama in this state... Besides the Cowboys new Stadium... Bryant Denny seats more than every NFL Stadium and Auburns stadium would be 3rd in the NFL behind the Cowboys and Fed Ex Field..... you also have to realize that Bama was Birmingham's team for years.. so most Blacks growing up in Birmingham grew up Alabama fans. Young Blacks grew up working Bama games at Legion field for their first job... selling hot dogs, drinks, etc.

Thanks for the perspective and history lesson. I find the south's reverence of college football--even at the FCS and DII and DIII level--so fascinating. You don't get that same type of passion for college sports in or near major metro cities like Boston, Chicago or New York. It's pro sports the majority of the time.

Aside from JSU, I don't have a prototypical college program I really follow intensely or care about that much. Illinois has been to the Final Four and Rose Bowl, Northwestern football has made the trip to Cali in the 90s, but it had more of a high school state tournament appearance feel to it to me.

I could not image feeling the same way about the Illini, Wildcats, UIC and DePaul the same way I do about the Bears or Bulls. The culture of the area has not embraced that mentality. There are SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Pac-10 and Big 12 bars in Chicago, but college sports does not dominate the papers or sports talk radio like in parts of the south.

But I can't knock you or anyone for supporting Bama football. That is what you and others were mainly exposed to for years before donning your HBCU colors. I don't understand rooting for a team whose mascot is an elephant. However, go for it.

now dont get it twisted... Im a Bulldog 4 life... I grew up 4 miles from AAMU... my mom has worked there all of my life.... I dont "support" Bama football.... support equals money and I have never been to a Bama football game or have any paro. Now I do watch their games on tv.

Well said BIFF:clap:

If you'll notice most of the stupidity comes from these Mississippi folks whose SEC schools never have, never will play in or sniff and SEC championship let alone a national. Rather than pull for your home state's team (of which brothers are playing key roles), they'd rather wallow in racism. But if I lived in the same state as Ole Miss and MSU, I guess I'd feel like that too. Sad ain't it?

Go onto one of their websites and they'll let you know how they feel about you......I go used to surf the LSU fan site and the REALLY let you know how they feel. Went to the link for the bama site and it was pretty much the same.

If this dont beat it all... :shame:

You can personally chose to do so and thats on you, but with the history here, I'm sorry... you will be hard pressed for any Valley, JSU or ASU person to sport Ole Miss or MSU gear (especially Ole Miss with thier history) just because they are the BIG schools in the state... just dont see it happening...

I admit... I will cheer for ANY Mississippi school that does well in all sports... especially in March and April... but buying Ole Miss t-shirts and hats and rocking them like I went there? Just cant do it... :shame:

If other individuals from MS dont do like a lot of Alabama apparently do in supporting the big schools in the state, thats on them... but dont any a-holic generalizations like that when you KNOW why a lot of people chose to do so...

Place your orders for 2010 AAMU Windsuits. I do have two 2009 women xl for 10% off. If you order today I can get them to you for Xmas. You don't have to wear it, you can give it to a AAMU friend.

This is plain ignorance at it's best. Now, I grew up in South Mississippi and you would be hard pressed to fine one Ole Miss or MSU fan, seriously. Most people from my area cheer for LSU or Florida. Southern Miss gets a lot of love because of their diversity (Hattiesburg is a wonderful College town) and friendliness towards regular black students. No black kids in Mississippi are growing up with the intentions of going to Ole Miss. We may consider going to play sports eventually or law school but in general, nope.

That is just difference between the two states and it has nothing to do with sports...

Blacks in Alabama are taught to love Bama from birth...

Blacks in Mississippi are taught to hate Ole Miss from birth...

 @ POP.... you right

i believe thats why A&M and Gump State lack so much support... all the blacks are fans and supporters of BAMA Crimson Tide
(which shadows the the two bama swac schools and everyone forgets about them)

smh, must suck to be them! but I don't feel sorry for them
They don't support their own, so why should I care

After all... BAMA Tide is who employed all the blacks in B'ham. So I guess they're giving back to their roots!

Why yall arguing, both Sippi and Bama are backwards azz states. As we say in the Atl, "Thank God for Sippi and Bama, as long as the are around, we will never be last."

Bamas are not in to athletics, as other schools, because athletics has never been a priority of either school. Competing for education dollars is the #1 concern of bamas. However, we do love our MCC.

Dude you're making MY POINT. Nobody in Miss pulls for Ole Miss or MSU because they're perpetual LOSERS and because of their racists history. Here, we can support our HBCUs, enjoy WINNING college football, leave the racism crap behind....use UA, AU, Troy, etc. as springboards to the pros or the career of our choice. We can do that, the whites only signs are gone.

It'll be a new decade in a few days, free your mind and step into it.:shame:

Im from Mississippi and I have never set foot on OLE PISS campus and dont plan on it. When I have a family they wont go there either. I will instill it in their heads that those people dont want us there and if it was really up to them they would have it the way it was back in the day, ALL WHITE. As far as MSU Ive only been there once, because of ROTC. Other than that fucc them schools and they big stadiums.

i was born in GA where UGA and GT football is bigger than the Falcons.
from the time i was little i was a UGA fan because thats all that came on TV, but by my senior year in high school that love affair had gone and the only school i began to care about was bama state. When UGA beat Hawaii in the sugar bowl a few years back i was glad they won but you didnt see me walking around with UGA: 07 SUGAR BOWL CHAMPS tee-shirts on.

but hey i guess its true that UA and Auburn is all folks care about in Alabama

Ole Miss is continuing to go through some racial issues and with the KKK showing up on campus I can understand how emotional you are........but, I'm mad about the issue also with the "Dixie" song. (Ol'e South Song)
