NCAA investigating Tennessee's use of women in recruiting

Funny, Matt Cassell got drafted without any significant college playing time.

I tell you what, I will give you his number and let him tell you himself. I ain't got to lie to kick it playboy, nor do i believe the white man's ice is gold. I know better. An by the way he is playing Arena ball, because the scouts hooked him up to get film on him. You guys go out of your way to prove anything these white folks have is good.

And you believe that? LOL!! How many NFL players does Stillman have, then tell me how many has Arizona turned out. Dude, somebody flat out lied to you.:emlaugh:

And who said education-wise that PWC's were all that or better than an HBCU education? I don't recall reading that. What I do know is that they have more to offer financially and that's what it's all about these days. Plus name-recognition is highly important when trying to get a job. Stillman versus Arizona? You tell me who is nationally known.

You don't have the good sense to intepret nothing anyway. You don't think out of the box anyway. Man yall love them white folks. Keep on loving them devils. You are always trying to prove a point. I didn't say Stillman was better, I said he would have had film on him had he played at Stillman, instead of being on a scout team. Yall go out of your way to prove the white man is better, that you can't even comprehend a post. Truly sad.

SU Trpt, you aint doing nothing but telling the truth and shaming the devil. These white folks will go to any extreme to recruit. yall seen HE GOT GAME when they had Ray Allen with those white girls and showing him mansions. My ex girl lives in Monroe, LA and she tells me all the time of how in Monroe they rezone black neighborhoods so that the kids can attend these white schools and play sports for them. And in West Monroe, they will go to the family with the best athletes and pay for them and their family to live in West Monroe so they can play football. We do need to educate these parents who all they see is $$$ and not how these white coaches and colleges are using them. Dont even get me started on that movie the Blind Side. Yeah they only really cared for ole dude bc he could play ball while its millions of black kids with broken families who cant play ball will be left in the street.

Another thing, why yall think these some of these black kids get into so much trouble when they get to these schools?? B/c if if aint on the field these coaches dont give a damn about them. At least with coaches like Eddie Rob, Casem, Pete they were training these boys to be great young men not just great football players.

You hit the nail on the head with the word rezone. It can be a very ugly word in subject matters like these. It is a very big story.

Cee Dog you living in a world thats not reality....... Young students choose Alabama over AAMU and Bama State for the same reason they choose AAMU and Bama State over Miles and Stillman. Its Fact.

I will say again... MOST of these PRO HBCU EVERYTHING people on this board live in the suburbs and send their kids to these rich all white schools.

I don't think out of the box? You must not read many of my posts, but that's another story.

This has nothing to do with loving any White folks. When folks don't agree with someone, race has to be the issue or self hate has to be the issue. This has nothing to do with self hate, this has to do with reality. Money talks and BS walks when it comes to a lot of these athletes.

These students are getting paid a "salary" in the form of a scholarship for services rendered to a specific university. That's a job, no matter how one wants to interpret it. If company A can offer me more INCENTIVES than company B, guess who I'll more than likely choose.....no matter if the company's Black or White owned. You can't sit here and tell me you wouldn't do the same. Well, you could, but I wouldn't believe you.

Hell, coaches do it all the time. They sign for a 5 year contract from school A, but if a bigger deal comes along from school B, guess who most of them will choose...and then say afterwards "it's not about the money". LOL!!

Technically a scholarship is a contract not a salary. These kids don't get paid a weekly salary to play sports. All the scholarship does is pay for all or part of their college expenses. Those athletes don't see a dime of that scholarship award for their personal use like you and I do for working an actual job. If athletics is defined as an extracurricular activity, there is no way participating in sports should be considered a job.

This is an old technique. The Arkansas Razorbacks have their hostesses as well. They just show recruits around the campus when they visit the campus.

Anyway, everyone that posted on this thread has a valid point..everyone. The big schools are taking advantage of basic human nature.. and that is all humans want to be associated with the best. Here in America,by the time we are 5 years old,we basically, if not fully understand the "best" from "mediocre". We are constantly bombarded with slogans and ideas like:The "best"schools"; The "best dressed",the best doctors;the best lawyers..etc. And when young athletes are deciding their futures for college, they instinctly know that if they want to be good, they want to recieve the "best"coaching available. Really it's not all about the "best" facilities...it's about good athletes ALWAYS want to play against the BEST competition. Oregon Ducks probably has the best facilites in the nation. They recruited heavily here in the South..but they could not get the "best athletes" out of the South like Alabama did and the rest of the SEC. See where I'm going with this? The SEC has the reputation of having the "best athletes" in the nation. Even on NFL pregame shows they called the SEC the semi-pro league. We are not competing against each other in our conference for athletes we are competing with the SEC schools in our states. See even if every school in the SWAC has 40 million dollar facilities would we still attract the athletes that the SEC get? Maybe or maybe not. But my point is that HBCU's have to realize that today's Black young athletes are different, they are not going to buy the "HBCU Experience".Especially when a SEC coach is in their living room.

exactly... I thought this was done at all schools... AAMU had them when i was in school and Cooper was there. Just so happen to be a Who's Who of Normal slutbuckets were always the host.

DAHILL, Every school does it...I had a few friends who visited AAMU and Bama State.. While AAMU was nice they said that Bama St. had the freaks..:lol:

Call it what you will. Our job is a contract too. We don't go to work, we don't get paid. Let an athlete not perform his services on the field or court and see where that scholarship goes. Same drink, different flavor.
It's still a job.

CD,

You are on target.......Stillman football program was rejuvenated in 1999 and thus far have two players in the NFL. There had been others who have been on teams, but they did not stick. The coaches work extremely hard to send film to every NFL team on various players.

This year an Alabama football player transfered to Stillman. It is rare that Saban would do something like this, because he stopped the transfer gravy train to SU in Baton Rouge. What goes unnoticed is Saban and LC Cole have coaching ties and there will possibly be other players who might transfer to Stillman in the future.

I look at folk like that as the "fart of our race"... It's very sad...

Well, I think it is a little bit unfair to say today's black athletes have a different mind set when it comes to valuing the HBCU experience. That is not completely true. Black prep athletes started devaluing the HBCU experience 40 years ago. It was a slow bleed then. Now there is a need for donor blood if you will. As I said earlier, these schools just care more about winning and have that Yankees mentality of winning at all costs. If that meant paying coaches millions, sending hot chicks to seduce athletes or taking on black players in a time where it was not the popular thing to do.

I don't think smaller schools have that mentality, and that is why they are ahead.

I am the parent of a high school recruit and I'm here to tell you now that an athletic scholarship is a SALARY. I will take one school that is recruiting my kid and use them as an example. Southern Methodist University! SMU tuition alone is about $34K PER YEAR. Now factor in room/board, books, tutoring sessions, athletic gear, travel, and now the cost could reach as high as $45K per year.

You guys have to realize that athletics is a BUSINESS and an ugly one at that. You can't fault a program for trying to get an edge on another program, nor can you fault the choice an athlete chooses to play.

There are NO BLACK HIGH SCHOOLS in the suburbs! Like someone said earlier, the main people complaining about black athletes going to PWC, don't even live in the SCHOOL ZONE so that their kid could go to Dunbar High, because they have moved to the suburbs and they send their kids and tax dollars to Cypress Ridge ISD!

The school, academics, the campus, hookers, money, or whatever.:shame:
Nobody including the all knowing people on this board can make a kid go somewhere he don't want to go HBCU or not.
People on this board made the decision to go to an HBCU so why can't a mofo make a decision that make them happy?

If that decision send a kid to JSU or another HBCU fine.
If that decision send a kid to Tennessee, Michigan, or Ole Miss.........Fine.
It ain't none of OUR decision to make whatever the reason that led them to make that decision is.
Bottom line.

It's funny that the only kids that are being discussed here are the one's that can do wonder's in athletics.
Guess that black, academic schollie winner that that never played a sport in their lives that go to the PWC's are influenced by hookers also.
Guess nobody GAS about them because they can't carry a football, bouce a basketball, or hit a baseball.:smh:

Well let me ask you this as a BLACK man...

Don't you think THAT attitude needs to change by EDUCATING our young BLACK kids in high school? Letting them know that line of thinking is a trap?!?!

It's like you on here advocating kids go to college for MONEY and not education purposes..

You done took the word Scholarship and made it a filthy word dude....

The graduation rate for these black student athletes are very low because they listen to folk that spit that garbage you are on here spitting...
And I don't feel anyone who hasn’t graduated from any college let alone a HBCU should be giving these young high school athlete advices...

THAT'S the attitude we all in here talking about CHANGING... Reading these bone head comments ain't doing nothing but proving our point...

These kids need to not be listening to some of the garbage many of you are in here spewing......

These kids been getting STREET education long enough... And it ain't doing them NO good.... The people that are giving it to them are in barber shops never attended college or never graduated....

I don't know why these kids listen to folk like that any way.. I would look at that person and see where they are in life before I take their advice...

This is sad...

I guess some of you all in here have accepted that the "white" way is the best way to go....

So why do we start these dumb threads like...

"Will we ever see the next Walter Payton, Steve McNair.......Doug Williams"..

Please stop making these dumb threads if this is the way some of you think...

I thought the purpose of the site was to BUILD up our HBCUs...

What is being said in here is a SUGGESTION to build up our HBCUs... Don't seem like some of you care about that at all...

I guess the perception is reality... most of you are on here to SMACK a school you didn't go to and make them look as bad as possible for many people to read so that you can sleep better at night...

SAD...

:read:
Dahill, I have said that many times. We are pro-black when it is suits us to be.

One of the reasons our neighborhoods fell down. Alot of us (including me) have chosen that life in the burbs over staying in the neighborhoods and helping turn around the hoods.

I don't knock any kid if he or she is getting an education. Whether it is at a HBCU or PWC. You have to do what is best for you. Some folks would not make it at a HBCU and some would not make it at a PWC. It is a personal decision.

These athletes allow themselves to be pimped because their priority is usually to make it to the pros. Some take advantage of the opportunity. Some don't.

Just like some who came to SU with me and had band schollys. Some took advantage of the situation and got their education and some decided they would party or do whatever and not take school seriously. It can happen at any school.

I think you guys are missing the whole point trying to defend PWC's. My point is not about going to a PWC nor playing there. My view, is why sit on a bench for four years and never play, when you can go some where and get playing time. You may not be the best player in the world, but those plays the scouts see on you might be what they are looking for. Sometimes scouts look for raw talent that he can turn into what his team needs. If you are on the practice squad for four years, that scout may not ever see you. Just like Dog81 pointed out, Nick Saben even sent one of his players to Stillman just to get exposure because the dude would never play at Bama. Now if Nick Saben can see that, you mean to tell me you guys can't see it?

every player that goes to a D1 school doesnt have NFL on their mind. What if a person gets a football scholarship to Vandy... knows he aint NFL material and uses football to get a degree from Vanderbilt.... is he dumb for riding the bench getting a free Vanderbilt education? Its not like HBCU's have a plethora of majors to start off with.

I just get tired of hearing that... we Black we suppose to go to HBCU's bullshit all the time on this board. Go where you want to go. What if I went to all Black schools all of my life and want to venture out....The Black folks I say NEED to go to HBCU's are the ones who come from white suburbian areas or small majority white cities or high schools.

Well, I am under the belief that parents should send their kids to a school that is obviously afforable and offers the best quality education.

Secondly, for those who went to a black school like most of us have on this board, support the university as much as possible. It does not have to be money. It can be time or giving advice or sprteading the word about the university.

Finally, be happy that black kids are getting the opportunity to attain an education at a university. Would we like more elite black scholars and athletes would attend black schools or consider them? Yes. But with so many kids going astray and not being ambitious, to see our kids doing something positive like attending college and doing well athletically is a great thing.

These players aren't who I am talking about though. I'm talking about the ones who sit on the bench for four years knowing they wanna go pro. Just like the dude parents I work with, he sat on the bench for four years just to say he played for Bama. Now he is hurt because he can't get picked up by a pro team. I mean this dude has tried out for every semi pro, Arena and NFL team he could. There are plenty of folks like him, the ones who go to school for an education are rare. Ain't nothing wrong with going to Duke or Vandy for a engineering degree if it's free. I agree with you on some of that stuff. Going to a HBCU is not really going to happen for most of these kids in 2009 because they live in a different world. They don't have the restraints from the past as bad as many of us had.

Im gone say this once.... Anyone on here with that "only HBCU" mentality and you dont send your kids to the local Black high school.... **** anything else coming out of your mouth because you a damn hypocrite.

I'll say this and be done. You same mofos on this board come on here every Sunday and be like "man this is some terrible football the swac is showing,"
"i had to turn the bayou classic off bc that is some bad football" "this is some ccoon ball" How in the hell can we complain about watching bad football when you same mofos agree that going to a PWC is better. A kid needs to go wherever they are happy with but to just brush off HBCUs like they are low rent or worthless is something i cant ever get down. So lets just shut down all of our athletic departments and just do bands i guess.

run n.i.g.g.e.r. run

Who ever told some of you a BCS school high paying degrees such as
(Law, Engineering, Computer Science, Nursing...etc..) Told you a fat lie.

Another case of thinking (white is right)
