You dumb asses got pimped big time. Comegy is a great coach, for a DII program. You guys figured that he was beating the school that was biatch slapping your azz so you would snatch him up. What you failed to realize is that the rules for DII aren't the same as ours. He can't do the things (legal and illegal) at Jackson that he did at Tuskegee and Central State.

Who is your coach and where did he come from? :lecture:

Also, when you consider that we have an outgoing AD, do we really want to hire a new coach right now and hand him to the new AD?

You know the answer to that...but there are reasons for a coach to get fired when he has a winning record....see Hughes. However, we gave Hughes a chance to make changes and he refused until his final season. We don't REALLY know what the problem is. All we know is that we don't like what we see. But we also know that Comegy does not know schitt about offense or he is content with letting Woody run it. Let's try to fix to offense and if we can't, then maybe we will know that Comegy is the problem. However, I must agree with Kendrick. Look at what AlaState did to LC and Coe. Sometimes you have to be patient with a coach. We know what one of our big problems is now. Let's go after the problem before going after Comegy. It's only fair to give the man a chance to fix it.

TP, despite everything you've mentioned, it seems that you're in favor of Comegy for one reason and one reason only: You're afraid of what happens AFTER we get rid of him. Its as if you'd rather stick with the devil you know. I understand - we've been burned by bad coaching hires this entire decade.

The same thing every school says to every coach: "Win or get out!". Kendrick, I don't know how many games you've seen in person over the past three or four years, but Comegy's true performance as the HC goes beyond W's and L's and trips to B'ham (for whatever that's worth). I was able to witness the JSU/ Bama State game in person this year. We won, but I left the game mad and disappointed as L.

I know the feeling.....

Man, I didn't even stay til the end. I can't even tell u the last time I left a JSU game early.... In fact, I wasn't even pressed to get to the game early. Normally, I am in my seat an hour before kickoff or at least headed toward my seat but I stood in the concessions area the WHOLE first quarter and was not pressed about missing the game. I went into the stands for the second quarter and left with like 10 minutes left in the 4th.

See, this is exactly what I was just talking about. You make a compelling case for keeping Comegy that would satisfy most alums. But that doesnt mean its correct. Let me ask you this, since you appear to have pretty good sense: Should a coach with a winning record ever be fired?

I think it depends on a number of things.

The performance of the program over a significant period of time.
The performance of other teams in the division or league.
The expectations of the program in relation to other teams in the league.
Did he do what he was hired to do.

Numbers to and three are important. I don t believe any team in the conference is so much better than JSU that it will force the school to change coaches just to compete. If Comegy were to come back, it does not hinder the Tigers chances of winning the division or the conference.

Those are some of the things I would look at before making a move.

If I could look around and see someone with an outstanding football staff, I would agree that getting rid of Comegy might be a good idea but when I see our staff, I see positives and negatives. I think, as in anything, you try to eliminate the negatives first and if that does not work, drop the entire thing. I would certainly not waste any money on buying Comegy out, when all we have to do is get rid of Woody, Bush, and a few more.

A native of Baton Rouge, La., Jackson was an all-conference quarterback at Jackson State (Miss.) after leading the conference in passing during his senior season. He earned his bachelor of science degree from Jackson State in 1972 and added his master of arts degree from Michigan in 1975.

Jackson started his coaching career at Flint Southwestern High School (Mich.), where he coached future Wolverine four-year starting quarterback Rick Leach. Jackson was also the head track coach and an assistant football coach at the start of his high school coaching career. He coached a pair of state championship track teams (1975 and 1977) and was the coach of the year in 1977.

Jackson and his wife, Teresa, reside in Ann Arbor. They have two sons, Jeremy and Joshua.

Lets not start any rumors. I don't think there is interest in either direction for Jackson to be HC at JSU.

TP you don't KWTF you are talking about...I may very well be interest after the mishandling of the football team Comegy displayed over the past few years.....

Hmmmmm.......

I see you finally answered the question I put to you after that game.

Thanks for the confirmation. Late, but thanks just the same.....

carry on

I can. Bell was the coach. :lmao: :lmao:

To be fair in his first year the squad was 6-5, then 8-4 (SWAC title win) then 7-5 last year (SWAC title game appearance) before 3-7 this season. I don’t think you run a coach after four years and he has taken the program to two conference championships. What are you saying to the next coach? There are always going to be ups and downs.

But not fire the guy after his first losing season.

But even during the SWAC Title year/contention....Jimmy Oliver wasn't listening to coaching(Woody). They wanted to to sit him down on several occasions but they couldn't because he made plays......even though it wasn't the play Woody would call.

So even in the years with the winning record.....It wasn't coaching!(at least not on the offensive side of the ball)

And this is what will not be tolerated. I want the wins, but I want them convincingly. Comegy hasnt been able to perform that and just allows Woody to do whatever he wants like a spoiled brat. I think Woody is Comegy's love child.

I don't care about beating the crap out of teams the Tigers play because it is not realistic. I care about being as consistent as possible for as long as possible. I want the Tigers to win as much as the next guy, but let's understand where the program and where the league is. I came along during the Hughes years and it was a string of 7-4 seasons. We scored a lot of points, but we did not dominate. The Bell era was a thing. I will say that. We hired Comegy to win the SWAC and he did. He did what he was hired to do. Now, I think we have to be patient considering there was some early sucess. I want to see how Comegy responds to this horrid season. If he craps himself again, then he's Charlie Weis and you have to let him go.

Oh, and I don't care if Comegy won with Bell's players or not. Bell did not win with them so why should Comegy be punished for it. Hell, Urban Meyer won with Zook's players his first year and Weis with Ty's players his first year and Ty won with Davie's players. Who cares?

No...TP hates to admit he's wrong. He hung on to Bell the same way (though you wouldn't know it now) and he's clinging to Comegy. He don't like admitting that his predictions of how well Comegy was gonna recruit and dominate the SWAC was just more of "TP being TP". He's been wrong so many times... yall prop him up cuz he's from the Mafia but I know yall wanna tell him to STFU

MB, I am rarely wrong. I proved that last week when Fiyah tried to call me out. :lecture:

I am not wrong here either. We need to retain Comegy and fire some members of the staff. Also,I am not hanging onto Comegy, he can go. Having a losing season at JSU is an abomination! You have to try to have a losing season in Jackson. Imma give him a free pass this year if he just "do the right thang"
