SWAC Reprimands Grambling State and Prairie View A&M Bands

Comegy needs his ass whooped for not saying a damn thing in the 4th quarter when the Jukes were blasting on our offense on 1st and Goal at the SU 5 yard line. Them jokers were cranking out the loudest intros they could. They blasted until it was 4th down. Result: FG.

They played in between plays. They really got our crowd going  .

It's a fricking football game!! No artificial noise makers! Them folks at Mississippi State were pissed cuz they couldn't ring their cowbells! Today's offense rolls with audibles. How da hell you call out an audible when the fricking band is in "their own little world"?

Be honest...sometimes the bands are playing during a play that ain't got isht to do with motivating their team!

I love our Bands and the part they played and play in our legacy...However yall band folk (especially directors) think the fans are coming to see them. Newsflash: You guys are not the main attraction...sit your azzes down and play when you're supposed to (according to the rules).

Take the bands away from the games and you will see who's the main attraction! LOL! The bands are a very important factor, it what makes HBCU's game exciting!

How many times have you seen the stands fill up for halftime and d@mn near empty after halftime is over. Trust me, the bands have alot to do with attendance especially with the HBCU product that's on the football field. NOw you can't have one without the other but bands are an essential part of the game.

Heyal yea ..i think them mofos was playing "Hate me Now" Non-stop. Thats probably one of the reasons Trae arse got Sacked . The Boom returned the favor when they crunk up "This Way" though (although SU wasnt is scoring postion) a quick 3 and out.

Where da hell is the reprimand for that damn JUMBOTRON making all that unnecessary noise during the whole game?????:kaioken:

Really. Or when you play in a domed stadium (RELIANT) and during the time out calls those damn commercials are blasted so loudly that you can't even hear what the band is playing. Or better yet, you can't hear the people right next to you! :kaioken:

Better bring your ipod to the game. With all of the sloppy play that's going on the field, it's about to be one boring ass Saturday afternoon.

She's talking about turning the Jumbotron volume down or don't make any sounds while the QB under center calling the signals...They can do whatever they want during timeouts...

Been said repeatedly but they don't get it....

SU's band has pretty much followed this rule for a while. It hasn't cut down the atmosphere of our games.

Because your man director does an excellent job of doing fan fares and snippets in between plays. Yall announcer says " And that's another jaguar first down" and yall band being poised, disciplined and into the game knows it's time for a fanfare or quick fight song snippet and stops. Your crowd anticipates it and settles back down for the next play.

Kudos to him and the juke! (Damn I can't believe I typed that)

A person who goes to a football game for reasons other than football would say something like that.

If the bands are such a problem, then why not enforce harsher rules against them? Or better yet...how about they just zip the programs altogether. At this rate, that's how the bands are gonna end up...zipped. Everybody knows that the football game ain't about the band. But the truth of the matter is that the bands add to the atomsphere of the game.

Besides...it's not like these rules are making our teams play better anyway.

I'm glad I marched when I did...

What about the multitudes of people who leave as soon as halftime is over.

Though it is a football game, not everybody goes just to see football (especially if the football teams suck). Believe it or not, some people actually do go just to see the bands, just like some people go to see the football game.

Maybe that's just me though...

Hell yeah! It was 8:20 mins. left on the clock. I remember. They played nonstop and LOUDLY. Oh well, we won the game! :D

No argument here. You are simply supporting my statement.

The main problem from every angle is "consistancy".

For the bands...SU is probably the best at paying attention to the game. A couple times SU has slipped...but, for the most part, everything played is in context with the game (Fanfare #2 for sacks...fight song snippets...etc). If it did happen at the SU/JSt. game...SU playing was more of an exception...cuz, that's usually not the case (unless, the game is already out of reach).

More bands need to be more consistant. I can only speak as a Houstonian and say that PV and TxSU has been HORRIBLE with it in the past. Don't know if they've straighten it up...but, both used to straight up come to the games to pay attention to everything BUT what's going on on the field. And, that attitude is totally wrong for a band to take.

Refs have to be more consistant in calling it. From week to week AS WELL AS from quarter to quarter or play to play. Can't let a band get away with it for 3 Quarters...then, wanna clamp down in 4th. Of course, the bands will look at you crazy and push the envolope the rest of the game.

And, if it's an HBCU game...I understand promotions and sponcerships...but, if you know the bands are important to the HBCU atmosphere...you can't have the PA blasting commercials during timeouts. Commercials are most effective visually, anyway...so, there's no reason to blast every commercial.

I do agree with some of the other posters, though. Im a bandhead as much as I am a sportsfan and visa versa...and, even I don't wanna hear the bands blasting during the ball being in motion. As a whole, we do a horrible job at watching the actual game on the field

I bet you lots of folks didn't even realize Fanfare #2 was played for sacks. They probably think it is a "call out". I am a band-head who now works in sports operations. I have heard first hand how coaches feel when the band simply refuses to pay attention to what is happening in the game.

I agree 100% that the biggest issue is consistency. Many times, unless it is just blatantly obvious, refs won't say anything until the QB or coach does. It needs to be as consistent as a holding or clipping penalty. I also agree with MikeBigg. If the refs give 1 warning, then just start dropping 5 yard flags for the next 2, and 15 yarders after that, I bet bands would figure out how to play when they are supposed to.

Look, I think we all like what the bands add to the "atmosphere" of the game, but some bands just don't care about the rules. Not cool. I remember once I was in the press box covering the game in Jackson when ESPN was there. And I overheard one of the producers just giving it to the Boom, saying why isn't anyone stopping them from playing the entire third quarter?

The producer was upset because it was tough for the broadcasters to be heard in the truck, and it made it difficult for them to hear the calls of the refs on penalities.

To the person who said you can't have HBCU football without the bands is a tard. College football in the SWAC or any other HBCU conference won't cease to exist because the band has limits on when it can play. And if people don't want to be part of a civilized football game, then don't buy a ticket or go watch the band practice.

Seriously, you think if the bands at the Miami-Oklahoma game had restrictions on when they could play or were suspended, those fans wouldn't show up?

People b*tch when the band doesn't play enough and they b*tch when they play too much.

Let's see what happens when the bands march in...don't play jack during the game...do halftime...and leave after the game without 5th quarter.
