SU-Alcorn Observations?

I was at this game, but I would like to hear the JSU bandmembers on how this matchup turned since JSU bandmembers NEVER come out to see SU before the BoomBox classic...

For the record, I go to only SU games, but I do know some SU bandmembers who have done the same thing to JSU, but I can't for the life of me understand why JSU folks on this board refuse to admit that Sonic Boomers come to SU games...

My observations of the game:

Both bands executed their game plans well. Alcorn seemed to try to play with more power than I know Griff would like, but it was cool. I'm too old to name winners in a band battle, so I say good job to both.
 



I like the show. Very pre-BoomBox'ish. Not too lil...not alot...no dance routine...a lil Al Green for the ladies...check please.


Ps- DaHe!! we need 11 dancers for, unless they're matched up with a Doll?...:retard:

How would you know what "Griff" would like? Have you ever marched in the Sounds? Why would you "seemed to try to play". Either they did or did'nt. Find another story!

Certainly you don't think that you have to march under a director to know what he likes and dislikes?

Some of us have known Griff or know of him for many many years. For example, I've seen his bands since I was a kid in the middle '70s. My first HS director, who taught me to play trumpet, was an Alcornite. My next HS director, a Southernite, developed a very good relationship with him and eventually worked with him. With he and Doc starting in the SWAC around the same time, I think Griff a year before Doc, Doc has told those close to him a number of stories about Griff. At minimum, there is a respect level between those two.

Now, I understand that only those who are with you in the intimate settings know the naked truth about you. But, this topic is far higher level than that. And there are several people outside of the Sounds of Dynamite that have an idea of Griff's philosophy and approach to his band program. There was no harm of disrespect in what State Troop was stating. And I will assure you that the Juke doesn't look at the SOD as a hated rivalry.

First to answer your question -- No, I have never (nor have ever wanted to) marched for the "Sounds". What I have done is met Prof "Griff", created friendships/fraternized with members of SOD from past & present, and watched him turn around yelling at people during the game -- all reasons to validate what I posted the first time. Don't be so sensitive next time...
 
Even with all that said..

One don't have to scrutinize, familiarize, fraternize, “chameleonizeâ€￾ to know a band director that was over Alcorn for all that time and had great sounding bands to not be happy with what ever unpleasant sounds that were coming out of the band...

A lot of this band schit is common sense..
 
This really sounded Boomish. I mean even the al green lick is one that we played last year at the SHC. No knock on the show and their is a definate difference in the Box and the Boom sound but if SU says they don't do Boom ish they lying.

Even last year JSU was marching off the field to Whatever you like. Then Su started doing it.

and SU trying to be BOOMish.....:vomit:

Do you not see SU picking up their feet MARCHING and driving... Our shows for Alcorn are always "different" when at home... Different in such that it's not the standard 2 drill dance skit show.. This show they did one drill played to both crowds and called it a wrap.. this has been done over the years at SU.

Are you serious or am I missing a punch line or something? So, today's SU would spend time copying today's JSU?

It seems to never fail that someone wants to imply what they do is worth someone else established trashing what they do to copy them. :shame:

No JSU played the entire Let's stay togehter and ask the Memphis crowd to sing along with the Boom. We always play a ballad in Memphis and it's either Blues or a Memphis Legend.

Second the march song is a boom staple and several field shows have been done to it.

Third the chant song you're playing is the same one the Boom used last year,during the Honda and the gram game this year.

Alcorn even bit the J-5 dance from the boom and our drum majors.

I can pull the video and show you. Nobody was playing whatever you like leaving the field last year but JSU then everyone started doing it.

But you guys will find something like facing both crowds, no dance and marching to try to make a show different...I didn't say it was exacty the same I said it sound Boomish.

So, what has the Boom copied, since you have gone to such links to attempt these probably cause discussions?

I could see if these were some hella house moves. There isn't anything special in either of those shows that I would waste my time claiming as something to steal, borrow, bite, etc... That is like saying they marched 5 yards, whipped turned and went into diamonds doing and 8-to-5 drill while playing a Michael Jackson song and we did that last year.

It is a stretch, but I guess you may give a jury of your peers some reasonable doubt... maybe.. :shame:

Dude please we've been facing both crowds and playing a ballad. Shid we played a ballad at the SWAC Championship in 99 for halftime. This aint nothing new. Or did you forget getting spanked by SU so much. Why am I even arguing with this dude. I'm pretty sure you've bought DVDs from our site go back into your collection and then come back with a smarter response next time. Notice how no one else from JSU is touching your comments. They know better. lol. Thank you for keeping SU on your mind.
