Yeah Dude is good. He got us last year. I hope he gets a shot to be a return man on the next level.

It makes me cringe to hear FAMU play "Do what you wanna" Still don't understand what that is about.


For the life of me, I do not understand why a band in FLORIDA would want to play a New Orleans based song that is a SU standard. I can understand if it was a big R&B hit or something like Neck that everyone plays. You know a nationally known and radio played cut. But no one would have even known anything about that song if SU had not played it. I guess I would have more pride than that. I would never want to see SU do something like that and make it their theme music or hype song. SMH. Old school pride send help. LOL.

To me that is a slap in the face if you are a FAMU 100 member. I would be pissed.

What I think happened is this:

FAMU does and been getting a good bit of New Orleans folk via St. Aug (people say St.Aug was close in comparison to Su, but to me they were a bit closer to FAMU)..
But one of them cats introduced them to "Rebirth Brass Band" and they tried to mix that with their style over at FAMU.. Which is in my opinion a horrible mix.

Well if I was the band director I would have vetoed playing that isht unless I was playing SU and just wanted to mess with them. Of course that would have gotten them blown out worser than the past. LOL.

Anyway, I was just lol at their students and fans all hyped up with it. Then to hear Jay Walker say this is FAMU's traditional song that gets the crowd hyped. I was like :retard::lol::upset: all at the same time. It is a second line song with pure La roots. Why in the world would the FAMU folks be enamored with some song made famous in S. La and is based there. They got to have seen SU do it many times over and even over in Bragg. You would think their own fans would be like WTF yall playing that SU isht for. Like I said no pride what so ever. Aint no way you see SU play a FAMU theme song as their own. Usually I don't get bothered by what is going on these days. But seeing another band outside the state of La playing Do What you wanna as their theme or hype song gets under my skin. Especially since its FAMU. :lol: I understand there have been and probably still are some New Orleans folk in the band. I could even understand them playing it at SU. But to be your hype song. I know damn well it would have been no way that us Ms cats who were in the Juke could have gotten Doc to play some Alcorn, JSU or Valley theme song as ours just because we were used to listening to it back home. Doc would told us to go get your own band and then probably would have zipped our arses for even asking to play it.

Still mumbling to myself asking WTF do them snakes know about second line music. Aint nothing Florida about that isht.:lol: Hell I think I will send my frat bruhs that marched at FAMU back in the day a text message to fugg with them about that isht.

:vomit: HORRID mix. It's like in The Five Heartbeats, when they had that white group, The Four Horsemen or some shit like that, singing their songs at the record label. But, this is also the band that plays the damn Chips Ahoy theme song (Sing, Sing, Sing)... And their fans LIKE it. It's all Dr. Fosters fault...... Tryna pass for white, and doin' the same with the band..... Lookin like the damn grand daddy from The Cosby show.....

  1. Pride comes before destruction; a haughty spirit before a fall.
  2. You never play another's alma mater, fight song, or spirit song out of respect. Everything else is just music. If you like it and you want to play it, then play it.
  3. People travel outside of the locality and get to hear all kinds of things. While NO may be the residence of a lot of great music, there is a lot more room in the rest of the world for that music to be expressed.

Now, if SU wants Do What You Wanna as its spirit/hype/whatever song, then say so. Personally, I thought Talkin' Out The Side O' Ya Neck was that song. Alas, I have been wrong before.

Yall can joke on Dr. Foster all you want, but you would be a fool to ignore that DR.Foster and Dr. Greggs will always the two top band directors of all time. Those two made everyone else what they are today. i mean no one, and I do mean no can come close to those two. I guess you can call the ebony and ivory.

You right about that.. The only reason Doc allowed N.O. folk to bring some of our culture as far as second line songs to SU because he is big on jazz and second line...
But it's funny watching FAMU.. I remember in 99 seeing they had a whole FAMU New Orleans group....lol they were sectioned off .. I was like who are they routing for FAMU of SU .. because they spent waaay more time by us enjoying us... But I guess it's funny out there like that...

Do you know how long and often SU plays "Do Watcha Wanna"? it was almost a gaurantee we were playing it coming off the field and at the end of games... Especially back during my time 96-99 when I can actually count one hand the times we actually lost a football game...lol
