NO, these are not choir techniques. No one who knows anything about choir technique would teach (or allow) that foolishness.Aren't most of these choir techniques? Well other than the direct smack within the statement!:noidea:
... That's where they got it from, Michigan and other DCI corps.
man fucc a chest tenor.
oh and I found where they got the sway, tip toe, lean back thang from, I was lookin for a song(malaguena) I played in high school and started watching DCI footage, then other footage. I found Michigan in 98 at the Rose Bowl. check out around 2:12, 2:57, 3:07, 3:13, 3:30...

....that goes to show what "type" folks in bands now.
I say that because a real jigga in the band woulda been like " hell nall, we'en doin(sway) that white boy corp isht". Listening to Michigan Band play and hearing their drum section play making me throw up. Reason being is because you got a lot of HBCU bands, i.e. Norfolk, BCC, Alcorn(I think heard something in 08)etc., that sound just like Michigan with the corp style playing. They done developed a corp sound like "white is right".
Thats sad.

Norfolk has ALWAYS had that sound though.... alot of other schools change their style up later.... but Norfolk has consistantly had the same style.
I can't get with that shyt myself.. Too many HBCU bands trying to judge themselves off of what the PWCs been doing.. If I am an HBCU I would be doing any and everything to CHANGE from what these PWCs are doing...
Why would a black (FUNK, STYLE) band be doing what a PWC is doing (total opposite from funk and style..STIFF)
That is just who they are. They just don't have that groovin' and funky mentality.
...Norfolk need to stick with corp style then, if thats what they do.
How they gone mix that style with showstyle. That isht dont go with R&B music, it aint funky.
....Fa'real. Exactly what I'm sayin'. Tonal drums? :vomit:
See what it is; you got these lame ass band directors, assistants, etc., thats with that isht. Mofo's that need guidance themselves and listening to the wrong folks. They done let these white boys get to them by telling them that our style is easy blah-blah-blah; that their style is difficult, technical, and "we can play" BS. But REALLY what it was, was that them white boys couldn do what we do; they like it and wanna do it but caint because they aint got no d@mn rhythm; so what they do? criticize and downplay our style of playing and trick us into playing and sounding like them because they couldn do what we do. And here we is with the white man is right thang went right along with'em.
The isht sad bruh.
....who Michigan?
Not talkin' bout Michigan; I expect to see that what they did and any PWC. I was talkin' bout the type in Bama State band or any HBCU band really.

Man you don't know how much I hate that isht and neggas that think they know what they are talking about when they put these whites schools on this so-called high chair of excellence...:shame:
It got so bad we had HBCU folk bragging on SU for playing Stiffer than what we used to play.... by calling it "cleaner"... Thank GAWD that crap didn't last long.... And some of my own bought into that dumb isht....
What SU was doing in the 80's and 90's and have now picked back up in the 00's was playing with FEELING, EMOTIONS, GROOVE...STYLE, FUNK!!!
You mean to tell me....EWF, CAMEO, MICHAEL JACKSON, JANET....etc. had to sing and have their bands play STIFFER to be considered playing CLEAN?!?!
Too many neggas flooded the net not knowing WTF they were talking about and basically made it seem like these LESSER Southern St. bands (MEAC) that were following the tune of the PWCs were better....
GTFOOH....
.....I mean like fa'real dawg, isht crazy man lol!
Please...PLEASE dont yall let SU fall for that crap. Most of the SWAC bands still holdin' it down. But I think I heard something comin' outta Alcorn that didnt sound right so they may be a casualty smh.
But I'm glad ain the only one who feels this way.

Am I the only one that sees that what Mich and DCI groups are doing is totally different than what BamaSt. is doing? What BamaSt does doesn't look like someone picked that up from DCI. But, from what HBCU's have done over the years...and, it has festered.
What those other groups are doing is an overexaggeration (in their "showmanship" phase) of them "blowing" while their horns are pointed towards the press box. What BamaSt. is doing is just a bad habit....period.

I'm still tryin to figure out how the shat got started because it's not just ASU. I've seen footage of other schools as well (although it's not quite as bad as the clip I posted before, but I have seen it); and I even seen some recent footage of a HS band doing it as well. :noidea: So is it HS students who got this "bad habit" and bringing it to college? Or are they watching the college students and basically mimicking what they see?
Either way, I personally don't like it. But that's just ME.
Oh, I know GOT DANG well who started it...but i don't feel lke smacking...All i know is that it wasn't Alabama State University Mighty Marching Hornets. My problem is that we picked it up and made it worser than anything in the pass
Don't be sked of the frontline, CHI96....point em out.
And, Xhale...someone from BamaSt. would have to tell me that that's what they're doing. Cuz, if they were mimicing DCI's...that's an even worser impression of what those groups are doing.
and let it be known that i did NOT write the words worser or pass=past lol or any of the last 9 words from my quote)

I know when I hear a clip of SU.... I get chills up my spine bruh. There is PASSION put into the music at that there school. Shit, SU is a HUGE jazz band, ready to ack-a-FOOL EVERY time you hear "Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh, Ready, UP! 1,2.. BRING THAT MUSTARD!!!!" You know how they tell football players to "Leave it on the field"? Well, I know ANYTIME I played even one single, solitary note through my horn while at Southern, that note had a message behind it, wether the message be "F*ck you JSU!!!!", or "F*ck YOU TOO, upperclassmen", or "Hey, Keyunte (spelling), you didn't HAVE to punch me in the damn head when we played Head Bussa's in the bandroom, but since you apparently though it was necessary, Imma take it out on this horn, the fans, the punk-@$$ baritone players in the row infront of us, AND that band across the field....." *Sorry, that last one been on my mind for a while.....*
Getaway...
Some of them don't even realize they are doing it. When many of them get in a zone while playing those songs, they are focused on stinging those notes towards that opposing band. While doing so, along with that adrenaline and "crunkness" pumping, they tend to move side to side. Nothing more, nothing less.
I hope this will kill this "theory" that this is something they are "Tring" to do on purpose. Its just an aimless motion that the band doesn't even realize is going on until after they look at the tape.
